Preprocessed data for find motives behind cross-platform forks from SWHGD dataset

<p>The fork-based development mechanism provides the flexibilityand the unified processes for software teams to collaborate easilyin a distributed setting without too much coordination overhead.Currently, multiple social coding platforms support fork-based de-velopment, such as GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket. Although thesedifferent platforms virtually share the same features, they havedifferent emphasis. As GitHub is the most popular platform and thecorresponding data is publicly available, most of the current stud-ies are focusing on GitHub hosted projects. However, we observedanecdote evidences that people are confused about choosing amongthese platforms, and some projects are migrating from one platformto another, and the reasons behind these activities remain unknown.With the advances of Software Heritage Graph Dataset (SWHGD),we have the opportunity to investigate the forking activities acrossplatforms. In this paper, we conduct an exploratory study on 10popular open-source projects to identify cross-platform forks andinvestigate the motivation behind. Preliminary result shows thatcross-platform forks do exist, for the 10 subject systems in thisstudy, we found 81,357 forks in total among which 179 forks areon GitLab. Based on our qualitative analysis we found that most ofthe cross-platform forks that we identified are mirrors of anotherplatform, but we still find cases that were created due to preferenceof using certain functionalities (e.g. Continuous Integration(CI))supported by different platforms. This study lays the foundation offuture research directions, such as understanding the differencesbetween platforms and supporting cross-platform collaboration.</p>

MOTIVE - tiMe-OpTimized contextual Information flow on unmanned VEhicles project experimental results

<p>The experimentation data were collected during the 6th Fed4FIRE+ Open Call (https://www.fed4fire.eu/) using the mobile nodes of the w-iLab.t (link) testbed. During this Open Call we proposed to evaluate the performance of an optimization model for temporal control of the transmission of messages from an IoT mobile device. This mechanism is based on a network condition model that transits from favourable to adverse conditions and vice versa. All these transitions are monitored and validated through our system (change detection and optimal stopping). If a network is performing properly then the transmission control can be relaxed to exploit available resources.The main contribution of MOTIVE is to apply a sequential decision-making process (DMP) on IoT devices that leverages the on-line derived network statistics to efficiently control their telemetry measurements transmission.</p> <p>Our data collected from the experimentation using the testbed&#39;s devices consists of network related information,&nbsp; packet error rate and latency. We collected data from a completely functional mobile node that operates in a saturated network and five mobile nodes in the same circumstances. Saturated conditions were generated by data produced by twenty static sensors for the duration of the each experiment. On each run we collected more than 2 * 105 samples. The comparative assessment we did was based on five different policies of decision making: i) no-policy model, ii) the heuristic threshold based model in which the transmission of the messages is paused when a specific threshold of quality network is below a threshold, iii) TOCP model which overviews the quality of network in normal mode and gets in pausing mode when a change is detected; the pausing period lasts for a specific threshold and then it is activated again, iv) TOCP-DRP and the v) fair TOCP-DRP which enters in pausing mode if a change is indicated by TOCP decision making model.</p> <p>The datasets include the packet error rate and the latency of each device, for each experiment, and the critical areas found during the experiments (most saturated areas).</p> <p>The datatset includes for each scenario(experiment) the participating devices and the Latency and Packet Error Rate(PER) per policy( NoPolicy, Heuristic, TOCP, TOCPDRP, TOCPDRPFAIR), apart from scenarioA(single node) where only four policies are present, since the TOCPDRPFAIR applies with more that one participating nodes.</p>

Data from: Let the most motivated win: resource value components affect contest outcome in a parasitoid wasp

Studying physical contests for indivisible resources is a major theme in behavioral ecology. Intensity (aggressiveness) and outcome of such contests may be influenced by individual abilities to gain and keep the resource (Resource Holding Potential, RHP), but also by the value they place in the resource (Resource Value, RV). Contestants can assess resource quality directly (objective RV) or estimate it according to their physiological status and their experience (subjective RV). In some parasitoid species, adult females fight for hosts on which they lay eggs and feed. Here, we studied contests between two females of the solitary parasitoid Eupelmus vuilleti when exploiting simultaneously a host: a fourth instar larva or a pupa of the cowpea seed beetle Callosobruchus maculatus. We first demonstrated that fourth instar larvae represent a resource of higher objective RV because offspring that developed on such hosts were heavier. We then showed that both objective (host quality) and subjective (initial egg load and habitat quality) RV did not influence oviposition decisions, but interacted to affect aggressiveness and contests outcome. Females won more frequently when they had more mature eggs than their opponent, but this effect was less pronounced when fighting for a high quality host. In addition, females from high-quality habitat were more aggressive and more frequently won contests over low quality hosts, while females from low quality habitat were more aggressive and more frequently won contests over high quality hosts. This experiment thus highlights the complex relationships existing between key factors that affect animals' conflict resolution.

Data from: Conquering the inner couch potato: precommitment is an effective strategy to enhance motivation for effortful actions

Letting effort-free gratification derail us from effort-requiring goals is one reason why we fail to realize health-relevant intentions like 'exercise regularly'. We tested the effectiveness of the self-control strategy precommitment in such effort-related conflicts, using a novel laboratory choice paradigm, where participants could precommit to an effort-requiring large reward by pre-eliminating an effort-free small reward from their choice set. Our participants used precommitment frequently and effectively, such that they reached effort-requiring large rewards more often. Using computational modelling and Bayesian model comparisons, we assessed whether participants employed precommitment to avoid anticipated willpower failures (i.e. as a self-regulatory measure) or to maximize their motivation to choose the effort-requiring option (i.e. as a self-motivational measure). Observed choices and precommitment decisions were consistent with the motivation maximization hypothesis, but not the willpower hypothesis. Our findings show that offering precommitment is effective in helping individuals optimize their motivation and choice behaviour and thereby achieve effort-requiring goals, and strongly encourage application of precommitment schemes in exercise and rehabilitation interventions. Behavioural Weight Loss Treatment Plus Motivational Interviewing versus Attention Control: A Randomized Controlled Trial

<p>Studies evaluating the benefit of adding motivational interviewing (MI) to behavioural weight loss programs (BWLPs) have yielded mixed findings. The aims of this randomized controlled trial were to: (1) assess the efficacy of adding MI to a BWLP on weight loss and adherence among 135 overweight and obese individuals (77.8% female; mean BMI = 33.6 kg/m<sup>2</sup>) enrolled in a 12-week BWLP, and (2) explore levels of importance, confidence, and readiness for change ratings. Participants, who were randomized to receive 2 MI sessions or 2 attention control sessions, were assessed at baseline, end of BWLP, and 6 months post-BWLP. Both groups decreased their weight from baseline to end of the BWLP; however, there was no weight change from baseline to 6 months post-BWLP in either group. We observed no group differences in importance, confidence, and readiness for change after each session. Participants may not have benefited from MI because they were already highly motivated to change. These findings suggest that pre-treatment assessment and treatment monitoring may help enhance MI+BWLP efficacy by guiding a stepped-care approach that identifies individuals for whom additional MI sessions are needed, and when. A focus on refining elements of treatment remains an important direction for effective obesity treatment.</p>

Motivational crowding in PES: experiment results

<p>Nature is perceived and valued in many different ways. Often, the types of values that are the most important to people depend on how they cognitively frame desirable human-nature relations. For instance, the value of nature can be seen through a utilitarian lens, e.g., as providing ecosystem services for humans. Alternatively, it can also be considered valuable for non-instrumental reasons, e.g., for its sacred or spiritual significance.</p> <p>In this paper, we use a framed field experiment to test how people belonging to three distinct communities in Colombia (Indigenous, Afro-Colombian, and Campesino) respond to different ways of framing payments for ecosystem services (PES) schemes, so as to assess potential motivational crowding effects of pro-social/intrinsic motivations for forest conservation.</p> <p>The experimental results indicate that crowding-in of intrinsic motivations for forest conservation occurred in participants from the Indigenous community when the PES scheme was framed in a way that highlighted relational values of the forest.</p> <p>By contrast, motivational crowding-in took place for participants in the framed field experiment from the Campesino community when the PES scheme was introduced in a way that highlighted instrumental values instead.</p> <p>Participants from the Afro-Colombian community did not show evidence of motivational crowding under either framing.</p> <p>Together, these results suggest that PES schemes that are framed in a way that harmonizes with locally salient human-nature relational models and associated values are more likely to cause motivational crowding-in, and thus encourage higher rates of environmental conservation, even after payments are discontinued.</p>
