Jarāʾid: A chronology of Arabic periodicals (1800-1929)
<p>This is the first release of Project Jarāʾid's bibliographic data set for all periodicals published globally in Arabic (or Arabic plus additional languages) between 1800 and 1929. The data set is the basis for the website <a href="https://projectjaraid.github.io/">https://projectjaraid.github.io/</a>. Systematic PSI processing over Santorini volcano: the 2011-2012 unrest period
<p>In the framework of the ESA funded project “Disaster Risk Reduction using innovative data exploitation methods and space assets”, the National Observatory of Athens together with Terradue customized a GEP implementation of the StaMPS suite of s/w modules, to automatically process stacks of SAR imagery using Persistent Scatterer Interferometry. The engine is now able to seamlessly and timely process data from Envisat, ERS-1,2, TerraSAR-X, COSMO-SkyMed and Radarsat-2 platforms, for user-defined Regions Of Interest. Hence, the concept of project’s “Trial Case VO-1” is to modify, customize, execute and test a fully automatic processing chain over the GEP, starting from raw/SLC SAR data, to ground velocities generation.</p> <p>The new capabilities have been tested for an historic volcano in Santorini island, Greece, aiming to create a unique database of diachronic InSAR measurements spanning from 1992 to 2015 (~23 years of data). The processing of the five different SAR stacks was done entirely within the GEP environment, in the context of the Trial Case VO-1. The thematic map included herein contains the estimated Line-Of-Sight ground velocities (mm/yr) for the <strong>period 2011-2012, based on 12 descending ASAR Envisat images</strong>. Kindly note that the product is raw and has not gone through any manual post-processing. Therefore, adjustments may need to be made to address reference point issues, isolated phase unwrapping errors, etc. </p>

Lookout Fire Time-Lapse Video Taken from the Roswell Communication Tower for the Period of Record Aug. 10 - Oct. 23, 2023.
<p>A lightning strike fire started on Saturday, August 5, within the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest, between the base of Lookout cliff and the ridge dividing Lookout and Mack Creek drainages. As of today, August 7, the fire is 2.5 acres. Two helicopters are traveling between the Blue River reservoir and the fire carrying water. The plan is to keep knocking back the fire until ground crews can get a line around it and contain it. It is burning in steep terrain, in old growth with dense understory, which is making it a challenge for experienced ground crews. In addition to the helicopters, a hotshot crew has been assigned to the fire, most likely starting August 8.</p><p>These images were taken from remote based StarDot and NetCam IP cameras positioned 13 meters up the Roswell Communication tower located in the north east side of the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest. The HJAHQCAM video was recorded from a StarDot camera positioned on top of the HJ Andrews main office building. Periodical cicadas disrupt trophic dynamics via community-level shifts in Avian Foraging
<p>Once every 13 or 17 years within eastern North American deciduous forests, billions of periodical cicadas concurrently emerge from the soil and briefly satiate a diverse array of naive consumers, offering a rare opportunity to assess the cascading impacts of an ecosystem-wide resource pulse on a complex food web. Here, we quantify the effects of the 2021 Brood X emergence, and report that >80 bird species opportunistically switched their foraging to include cicadas, releasing herbivorous insects from predation, and essentially doubling both caterpillar densities and accumulated herbivory levels on host oak trees. These short-lived but massive emergence events help us to understand how resource pulses can rewire interaction webs and disrupt energy flows in ecosystems, with potentially long-lasting effects. </p> <p> </p>
HIRHAM–NAOSIM simulations for the periods March/April 2018 and March to September 2020
<p>This dataset group comprises subsets of two HIRHAM–NAOSIM simulations for the periods March/April 2018 and March to September 2020, as used in the paper “Observations and modeling of areal surface albedo and surface types in the Arctic” by Jäkel et al. (2024, https://doi.org/10.5194/tc-18-1185-2024).</p> <p>The simulation for 2018 was originally carried out for the period from January to September 2018. It was started from rest with temperature, salinity, ice thickness, and ice concentration fields from ORAS5. The simulation for 2020 was originally carried out for the period 2019-2020 and initialized with fields from 1 January 2019, 00 UTC of an earlier long-term simulation. The prognostic atmospheric fields of the two simulations were nudged to the corresponding ERA5 fields with a vertically uniform nudging time scale of 16.67 h. Sea ice and ocean fields were initialized with fields from an earlier long-term simulation. Further details on the simulations are given in "On the importance to consider the cloud dependence in parameterizing the albedo of snow on sea ice" by Foth et al. (2023, https://doi.org/10.5194/egusphere-2023-634).</p>

Detailed information on cost and sale prices on Polish pig market in the period 2017-mid2022
<p>The database contains detailed information on costs and sale prices of piglets and finishers on Polish martket in the period January 2017 - July 2022. The prices of cereals used for feeding are taken from the average monthly data of the Ministry of Agriculture and the daily stock exchange quotations of Agrolok. The remaining operational costs (veterinary costs, utilities, labor, and transport) were assumed at a constant average level established on the basis of the reference methodological publication of the Danish research and development organization called “Seges Innovation” (2022) and a manual on pig farming (Pawłowski, 2020). The same sources were used to determine the optimal feeding model, which is important for calculating feed costs. Assumptions for calculating feed cost, the cost of falls, labor costs in piglet and finisher production, as well as piglet transportation costs are presented in the excel sheet.</p>
