Results from Air Quality Monitoring and Surveys in UK Residences - Appendix (Survey Questions)

<p>Survey questions used in the paper titled &quot;Results from Air Quality Monitoring and Surveys in UK Residences&quot;. Abstract below.</p> <p>Air pollution is a persistent issue in dwellings worldwide, costing an estimated 10-25 billion US dollars per year to the United Kingdom&rsquo;s national health service alone. However, it is an &ldquo;invisible problem&rdquo; since background pollutants are often imperceptible except during acute pollution events such as wildfires. Although public awareness of ventilation has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are few tools available to assess its efficacy. Widely available sensor systems that can measure these pollutants tend to be single units with simple apps and little connection to mitigation, whereas different rooms in a house may have different pollution issues with different recommended actions. In this study, we present the results of a measurement study conducted using a multi-room sensor kit in twenty-nine dwellings across the UK. We also analyze the occupants&rsquo; reaction to the hardware, data, and a prototype alerting system. The study shows broad awareness of air quality in the participants. However, this awareness rarely corresponded to effective mitigation actions or ventilation provision. The concept of alerts was welcomed by participants if accompanied by actionable recommendations.</p> <p>The data showed significant pollution events, as measured by proxies such as total VOC and CO<sub>2</sub>, occurring almost daily, particularly in households with gas appliances. These incidents were concentrated around particular times of day and behaviors, indicating that the capacity of infiltration and extract ventilation to bring in adequate fresh air was overwhelmed. No significant outdoor pollution was detected in houses, which was expected given their sheltered peri-urban locations. The study highlights the need for comprehensive implementation of measurement, ventilation, and treatment measures in the UK housing stock to reduce the impact of indoor pollution on health.</p>

CATCH-EyoU: Processes in Youth's Construction of Active EU Citizenship: Cross-national Wave 1 Questionnaires: Italy, Sweden, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Czech Republic, UK, and Estonia: EXTRACT: Identification with Europe and Home Country

<p>It is a well-established fact that forming a mature and coherent political identity is one developmental task in adolescence and young adulthood. However, given different degrees of commitment on the regional, national, and European level, the question remains whether young people&rsquo;s identification varies among those spheres? Drawing on data from the European Catch-EyoU-project, it was the goal of this study to examine whether young people can be classified according to their identification toward their home country and Europe and how these types are associated with age, gender, country as well as political interest, tolerance, and political participation. The study is based on adolescents and young adults from the Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Estonia, Italy, Portugal, and Sweden (<em>N </em>= 9,339; <em>M</em>age=19.62; 59.1% female). Cluster analysis revealed five types of young people&rsquo;s identification with country and Europe which showed significant associations between group membership and tolerance, political interest, and participation. The implications of distinguishing types of identification and their associations with political outcomes are discussed.</p>

Dataset: Drone orthomosaics for remote detection of Pacific oysters (Kingsbridge Estuary, UK)

<p><span>A field campaign was carried out at two distinctive intertidal cases at&nbsp;</span><span>Kingsbridge Estuary, UK. Drone images were collected around low tide on&nbsp;</span><span>each site of the estuary selected by the high number of Pacific oysters reported&nbsp;</span><span>and their very different characteristic landscapes of mudflats and rocky shore. D<span>rone images were collected using&nbsp;</span><span>a DJI Phantom4 Pro v2.0 in a pre-planned grid mission using the &rdquo;DJI&nbsp;</span><span>GS Pro&rdquo; mission planner software.</span><span> </span><span>Photos were acquired at 10 m altitude&nbsp;</span><span>(resulting in a pixel size of</span><span> </span><span>&sim;</span><span>0.3 px/cm) with a front overlap ratio of 80%&nbsp;</span><span>and a side overlap of 70%.</span><span> </span></span></p> <p><span>The two sites included in this work are:</span><br><span>&bull;</span><span> </span><span>Site A: Collapit Creek mudflats</span><span>. An area of approximately 1.67 ha</span>&nbsp;<span>intertidal mudflat was surveyed on 13th May 2022&nbsp;</span><span>(lat, lon = 50.259245, -3.771041).</span><br><span>&bull;</span><span> </span><span>Site B: Scoble Point rocky shore</span><span>. Template matching catalog of the seismicity induced by hydraulic fracturing operations at Preston New Road (UK) in 2019

<p>The file PNR2_TMcatalog.csv contains the catalog of seismicity induced by the hydraulic fracturing operations carried out at Preston New Road (UK) in 2019. The catalog was created with template matching using a single downhole sensor located in a monitoring well.</p> <p>Here is the description of the columns found in the file:</p> <ul> <li>ARRTIME: P-wave arrival times at the reference station.</li> <li>X, Y, Z: hypocentral coordinates (easting, northing and depth). Northing and easting are expressed in the United Kingdom Ordnance Survey coordinate system (EPSG:27700). Depth is expressed in meters below sea level.</li> <li>MW: moment magnitudes.</li> <li>CLUSTER: cluster ID. Earthquakes with the same cluster ID were detected by the same template.</li> </ul>
