Resilience of food sufficiency to future climate and societal changes

Producing sufficient food to meet rising demand is a precondition to food security. While governance, trade, and social justice are critical dimensions of food access and thus food security, change in caloric sufficiency - adequate caloric supply to meet total demand - is a critical concern for resilience of the global food system in the face of climate and societal changes. Here we show, across five scenarios and assuming crop mix adaptation to new climate conditions, that global caloric sufficiency is likely to decrease, despite increased production, because those gains are outweighed by population growth. At a national scale, caloric sufficiency decreases consistently for most countries, and most countries facing hunger today remain vulnerable. Our results suggest that adapting crop mixes to new climate conditions will likely be insufficient to cope with global changes by 2050.

Readme about this dataset can be found here: https://github.com/charlottegiseleweil/ResilienceOfNutrition

/!\ Use Version 2. The Resilience of Habitable Climates Around Circumbinary Stars: 3D climate model data Part 1

Climate modeling outputs used in the paper, "The Resilience of Habitable Climates Around Circumbinary Stars", to be published JGR-Planets Special Edition on Exoplanets. Files contain 4 Earth years of hourly time cadence outputs of basic climate fields. Hourly time-cadence is needed in order to grasp the temporal variations of circumbinaries.

Climate-Resilient Spatial Prioritization and Connectivity Layers for European Vertebrates (T7.2, NaturaConnect)

This dataset contains spatial outputs from Task 7.2 of the NaturaConnect project, supporting climate-resilient conservation planning across Europe. These outputs include Zonation-based spatial prioritization solutions and connectivity layers representing areas important for supporting bi-directional connectivity between present and future locations of bioclimatic components, while accounting for species-specific dispersal abilities. Spatial prioritizations were generated using the Zonation 5 software, accounting for present distributions, future projections, and climate-driven connectivity. Final map output include a balanced feature density map (
bfd_rankmap.tif
). For more details, please refer to the
README
file inside the
prioritization_solutions.zip
.

Increasing production efficiency and coping with climate change, while ensuring sustainability and resilience

Isolation and screening of rhizobia to identify élite isolates that can maximize biological N2 fixation (BNF) in legumes used as intercrops or green manure under combined stress

Increasing production efficiency and coping with climate change, while ensuring sustainability and resilience

The 3rd group of experiments (GE3) was designed to assess the effect of legume crops cultivated during autumn (from August to January) as cash crops or as green manure on the next tomato crop cultivated during spring (from February to July). Thus, GE3 included two experimental crops, one with legumes starting in August 2018 and terminated in January 2019 (GE3E1) and one with tomato, which started in February 2019 and terminated in July 2019 (GE3E2). In the experiment with legumes tested as preceding crops to tomato (GE3E1), four different treatments were established. In particular, treatment 1 (T1) was a cowpea crop cultivated as a cash crop aiming to produce cowpea pods during autumn 2018. Similarly, treatment 2 (T2) was a common bean crop cultivated as a cash crop aiming to produce commercially marketable common bean pods during autumn 2018. Treatment 3 (T3) was a faba bean crop aiming to be incorporated to the soil at anthesis as green manure. Finally, Treatment 4 (T4) was a faba bean crop aiming to be incorporated to the soil at anthesis as green manure
