Exploring profiles of Montessori primary school teachers: a cluster analysis study

<p>Montessori education is widespread globally, leading to significant variability in how the Montessori model is implemented. However, only one study has explored different implementation styles by aligning them with distinct profiles of Children&rsquo;s House teachers. No such study has been conducted for primary school teachers, nor in Italy, the birthplace of Montessori education. This study aims to explore the various ways in which Montessori primary school teachers implement Montessori education. A questionnaire was administered to 329 Italian teachers, collecting data on their demographics, education, personal characteristics, and adopted educational practices. A cluster analysis identified four distinct groups: the &ldquo;orthodox&rdquo; (N = 145), the &ldquo;adapted&rdquo; (N = 108), the &ldquo;implementer&rdquo; (N = 37), and the &ldquo;out-of-place&rdquo; (N = 39). These groups differ in terms of personal characteristics ideal for Montessori teachers (humility and scientific spirit) and their adherence to traditional Montessori practices. The fact that nearly half of the sample does not adopt practices faithful to the Montessori model, combined with the recent growth of Montessori schools in Italy, underscores the need to challenge traditional school myths, offer support and monitoring for schools adopting Montessori practices, and foster an open debate that values potentially new, non-orthodox practices aligned with Montessori&rsquo;s core principles.</p>

PMID: 33568120; PMCID: PMC7877115.</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p><strong>Objective:&nbsp;</strong>To derive cluster analysis-based groupings for adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD) when it comes to perceived health, psychological functioning, health behaviours and quality of life (QoL).</p> <p><strong>Methods:&nbsp;</strong>This study was part of a larger worldwide multicentre study called APPROACH-IS; a cross sectional study which recruited 4028 patients (2013-2015) from 15 participating countries. A hierarchical cluster analysis was performed using Ward&#39;s method in order to group patients with similar psychological characteristics, which were defined by taking into consideration the scores of the following tests: Sense Of Coherence, Health Behavior Scale (physical exercise score), Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale, Illness Perception Questionnaire, Satisfaction with Life Scale and the Visual Analogue Scale scores of the EQ-5D perceived health scale and a linear analogue scale (0-100) measuring QoL.</p> <p><strong>Results:&nbsp;</strong>3768 patients with complete data were divided into 3 clusters. The first and second clusters represented 89.6% of patients in the analysis who reported a good health perception, QoL, psychological functioning and the greatest amount of exercise. Patients in the third cluster reported substantially lower scores in all PROs. This cluster was characterised by a significantly higher proportion of females, a higher average age the lowest education level, more complex forms of congenital heart disease and more medical comorbidities.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions:&nbsp;</strong>This study suggests that certain demographic and clinical characteristics may be linked to less favourable health perception, quality of life, psychological functioning, and health behaviours in ACHD. This information may be used to improve psychosocial screening and the timely provision of psychosocial care.</p>

Identifying profiles of parental (de)motivating behaviors in youth sports through cluster analysis: A Multi-informant Approach

<p>Based on the perceptions of 331 youth athletes (<em>M</em><sub>age</sub>=14.33) and their most involved parent (<em>M</em><sub>age</sub> = 45.96), this study examined whether different profiles of parental behavior (i.e.,autonomy, competence, and relatedness supportive and thwarting) can be identified, to what extent these profiles match between the perceptions of athletes and parents, and how these profiles relate to youth athletes&rsquo; need-based experiences, (a)motivation, (dis)engagement, and anxiety regarding their sports participation. Cluster analysis identified four parental profiles based on both athlete and parent perceptions: parents who are relatively (1) need-supportive, (2) need-thwarting, (3) predominantly controlling, and (4) distant. In general, parents rated themselves as more motivating and less demotivating compared to the athlete&rsquo;s perception. Moreover, parents&#39; self-assessment had little to no predictive power in terms of the athlete&rsquo;s sports experience. However, athletes who perceived their parents as need-supportive displayed the most adaptive outcomes, whereas the opposite was true for the need-thwarting profile. The two other profiles were situated in between, with athletes in the predominantly controlling profile scoring high on both the adaptive and maladaptive outcomes, and athletes in the distant profile scoring low on the maladaptive outcomes but not necessarily high on the adaptive outcomes.</p>

Outcomes of a computer-based cognitive training (CoRe) in early phases of cognitive decline: a data-driven cluster analysis

<p>This is the processed data for the manuscript<em>&nbsp;Outcomes of a computer-based cognitive training (CoRe) in early phases of cognitive decline: a data-driven cluster analysis.</em></p> <p>Dataset evaluated how patients&rsquo; baseline cognitive functioning could be associated to different individual characteristics and different trends of functioning across the cognitive rehabilitation process with CoRe. Identifying such predictors of responsiveness could promote to the development of a &ldquo;personalized&rdquo; or &ldquo;stratified&rdquo; precision medicine in the context of the broad spectrum of CT interventions. To this end, we used an unsupervised clustering technique in order to find subgroups of patients with different cognitive profiles and study how these clusters respond to the cognitive treatment. Cognitive profiles were developed by considering participants&rsquo; global cognition and processing speed (PS).</p> <p>Fifty-seven subjects underwent to a computer-based cognitive training (CCT) for 3 weeks and were evaluated at baseline (T0), post-intervention (T1), and after 6 (T2) and 12 (T3) months. Clusters of cognitive profiles were explored with k-means analysis. The analysis revealed two clusters, which were composed by 27 and 30 patients characterized by lower (Cluster 1) and higher (Cluster 2) cognitive functioning. At T1, cognitive performance improved in both groups, but Cluster 1 gained more benefits in global cognitive functioning than Cluster 2. However, at T3, Cluster 2 remained stable in its clinical condition, whereas Cluster 1 showed a pronounced worsening. In conclusion, Cluster 1 profile was associated with a more marked but also short-lasting responsiveness to CCT, whereas patients fitting with Cluster 2 characteristics seemed to obtain more CCT benefits in terms of stability or even delay of cognitive/functional decline. These findings may have relevant implications in informing the timing and modality of delivery of CCT.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
