Highly cited tropical medicine articles in the early COVID 19 pandemic. Original Excel data on citation and subjects

<p><strong>ORIGINAL DATA SET FOR STUDY OF PUBLICATION AND CITATION TRENDS, TROPICAL MEDICINE, EARLY COVID 19 PANDEMIC. Background: </strong>An adequate response to health needs includes the identification of research patterns about the large number of people living in the tropics and subjected to tropical diseases. Studies have shown that research does not always match the real needs of those populations, and that citation reflects mostly the amount of money behind particular publications. Here we test the hypothesis that research from richer institutions is published in better-indexed journals, and thus has greater citation rates.</p> <p><strong>Methods:</strong> The data in this study was extracted from the Science Citation Index Expanded database; the 2020 journal Impact Factor (<em>IF</em><sub>2020</sub>) was updated to 30 June 2021. We considered places, subjects, institutions and journals.</p> <p><strong>Results:</strong> We identified 1 041 highly cited articles with 100 citations or more in the category of tropical medicine. About a decade is needed for an article to reach peak citation. Only two Covid-19 related were highly cited in the last three years. Most cited articles were published by the journals <em>Memorias Do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz</em> (Brazil), <em>Acta Tropica</em> (Switzerland), and <em>PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases</em> (USA). The USA dominated five of the six publication indicators. International collaboration articles had more citations than single-country articles. The UK, South Africa, and Switzerland had high citation rates, as did the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the UK, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the USA, and the WHO in Switzerland.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions:</strong> About ten years of accumulated citations are needed to get 100 citations or more as highly cited articles in the Web of Science category of tropical medicine. Provenance, Added Clinical Benefit and Therapeutic Area of 632 medicines that entered the French market between 2008 and 2018

<p>This file&nbsp;contains a data set of 632 medicines that entered the French market between 2008 to 2018. 529 medicines are single drugs and 103 are combination medicines. For each drug we present data on provenance (inventor of the drug) and sources referencing our searches for origins of each medicine. We also present added clinical benefit data for all 632 medicines based on HAS and Prescrire matched grading scale as well as therapeutic area of each medicinal product in which the clinical benefit grading was sourced (highest clinical benefit grading attained by the product in the indication based on Prescrire grading). The file also contains data on the medicines approved by the FDA in the United States</p>

Dataset: Preliminary analysis of open data pertaining to the services available through the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia and provided by family medicine

<p>BACKGROUND:&nbsp;The Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZZZS) began publishing service-related data in May 2023, following a directive from the Ministry of Health (MoH). The ZZZS website provides easily accessible information about the services provided by individual doctors, including their names. The user is provided relevant information about the doctor&#39;s employer, including whether it is a public or private institution. The data provided is useful for studying the public system&#39;s operations and identifying any errors or anomalies.&nbsp;</p> <p>METHODS:&nbsp;The data for services provided in May 2023 was downloaded and analysed. The published data were cross-referenced using the provider&#39;s RIZDDZ number with the daily updated data on ambulatory workload from June 9, 2023, published by ZZZS. The data mentioned earlier were found to be inaccurate and were improved using alerts from the zdravniki.sledilnik.org portal. Therefore, they currently provide an accurate representation of the current situation. The total number of services provided by each provider in a given month was determined by adding up the individual services and then assigning them to the corresponding provider.&nbsp;</p> <p>RESULTS:&nbsp;A pivot table was created to identify 307 unique operators, with 15 operators not appearing in both lists. There are 66 public providers, which make up about 72% of the contractual programme in the public system. There are 241 private providers, accounting for about 28% of the contractual programme. In May 2023, public providers accounted for 69% (n=646,236) of services in the family medicine system, while private providers contributed 31% (n=291,660). The total number of services provided by public and private providers was 937,896. Three linear correlations were analysed. The initial analysis of the entire sample yielded a high R-squared value of .998 (adjusted R-squared value of .996) and a significant level below 0.001. The second analysis of the data from private providers showed a high R Squared value of .904 (Adjusted R Squared = .886), indicating a strong correlation between the variables. Furthermore, the significance level was &lt; 0.001, providing additional support for the statistical significance of the results. The third analysis used data from public providers and showed a strong level of explanatory power, with a R Squared value of 1.000 (Adjusted R Squared = 1.000). Furthermore, the statistical significance of the findings was established with a p-value &lt; 0.001.&nbsp;</p> <p>CONCLUSION:&nbsp;Our analysis shows a strong linear correlation between contract size of the program signed and number services rendered by family medicine providers. A stronger linear correlation is observed among providers in the public system compared to those in the private system. Our study found that private providers generally offer more services than public providers. However, it is important to acknowledge that the evaluation framework for assessing services may have inherent flaws when examining the data. Prescribing a prescription and resuscitating a patient are both assigned a rating of one service. It is crucial to closely monitor trends and identify comparable databases for pairing at the secondary and tertiary levels.</p>

Large scale virtual screening for finding inhibitor against the main protease from herbal medicine for SARS-Cov2 therapy

<p>The pandemic COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 has raised global health concerns. However, there is still no targeted medicine available for treatment of this disease. It is reported that 3CLpro plays an important role for the life cycle of virus and this protein has also been proved as an effective drug target in the case of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV). Medicinal plantsare important resource for drug discovery. Therefore, we executed large scale virtual screening on the herbal medicine library and hoped to find a potential drug againstthe main protease. As a result, we obtained three available compounds derived from Chinese herbal medicines through the docking and binding free energy calculation.Then 100 ns molecular dynamic (MD) were employed to uncover the potential mechanisms which is helpful for further drug optimization.</p>

Data from: Elevated atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide reduce monarch tolerance and increase parasite virulence by altering the medicinal properties of milkweeds

Hosts combat their parasites using mechanisms of resistance and tolerance, which together determine parasite virulence. Environmental factors, including diet, mediate the impact of parasites on hosts, with diet providing nutritional and medicinal properties. Here, we present the first evidence that ongoing environmental change decreases host tolerance and increases parasite virulence through a loss of dietary medicinal quality. Monarch butterflies use dietary toxins (cardenolides) to reduce the deleterious impacts of a protozoan parasite. We fed monarch larvae foliage from four milkweed species grown under either elevated or ambient CO2, and measured changes in resistance, tolerance, and virulence. The most high-cardenolide milkweed species lost its medicinal properties under elevated CO2; monarch tolerance to infection decreased, and parasite virulence increased. Declines in medicinal quality were associated with declines in foliar concentrations of lipophilic cardenolides. Our results emphasize that global environmental change may influence parasite-host interactions through changes in the medicinal properties of plants.
