Apothecary vessel for wormwood oil
The presented majolica apothecary vessel comes from the collection of Mateusz Bronisław Grabowski (1904–1976). The tubular spout is placed on the opposite side of the handle, under which the date 1563 is visible, separated in the middle by the letter "A" (short for Latin anno – in the year). Below it, is a wide strip with the pharmacy's signature, and even lower down, an armorial cartouche. The date with the monogram, the signature and the crest are surrounded by a colourful wreath. The pharmacy's signature reads: OL(EUM)∙ABSINTII, which means wormwood oil. It was obtained from the Pontic wormwood (Artemisia pontica L.), also called the Roman wormwood. It was a cholagogue and a laxative, primarily recommended to combat endoparasitic infection. An incomplete cast copper-alloy drop handle from a vessel of Medieval date circa AD 1270 -1600. The incomplete handle consists of a zoomorphic terminal end, probably representing a dog's head. The terminal has a rivet through the centre of the mouth, with other features (eyebrows and hair ridges) defined by cast in relief with incised lines finishing the decoration. Shengding Food Vessel, around 575 BCE
Model of a large (68cm or 27 inches wide) bronze shengding food vessel from southern China, now in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. From the object's description on artsmia.org: *Around the cauldron body are six kui (single horn) dragons in high relief climbing upward toward the lid. Supporting the vessel are three stout legs with stylized dragon masks cast into their shoulders. The surface is ornamented with interlaced dragons, incised scale patterns, and overlapping feather-like motifs.
