Didimosphenia geminata: sequences and morphology data set
<p><span>Microalgae and their invasiveness are recurrent themes in aquatic environments and many invasions by microalgae are linked to eutrophication. However the diatom <i>Didymosphenia geminata </i>has gained notoriety in forming thick mucilaginous mats in pristine, rocky-bottomed rivers with no obvious connection to elevated levels of nutrients. This species is native to freshwaters of the circumboreal region of the Northern Hemisphere and blooms in the Southern Hemisphere have been attributed to recent introductions of the species to these regions. Although regional population genetic analyses have suggested multiple recent introduction of this species, the gene flow and the spatial genetic diversity distribution on a global scale remains unknown. We develop a phylogeographic analysis to investigate the genetic diversity of <i>D. geminata</i> populations around the globe. Our results indicate two distinct genetic lineages geographically distributed that remain spatially isolated. One lineage is exclusively found in Europe, the other is distributed in North America, New Zealand and South America. Since blooms of <i>D. geminata</i> commenced in North America and in Europe simultaneously, these data support the idea that factors associated with global environmental change and possibly the associated biome are the cause of blooms globally. We further discuss the role of human mediated-dispersal.</span></p>

Data from: An enhanced target-enrichment bait set for Hexacorallia provides phylogenomic resolution of the staghorn corals (Acroporidae) and close relatives
<p>Targeted enrichment of genomic DNA can profoundly increase the phylogenetic resolution of clades and inform taxonomy. Here, we redesign a custom bait set previously developed for the cnidarian class Anthozoa to more efficiently target and capture ultraconserved elements (UCEs) and exonic loci within the subclass Hexacorallia. We test this enhanced bait set (targeting 2,476 loci) on 99 specimens of scleractinian corals spanning both the "complex" (Acroporidae, Agariciidae) and "robust" (Fungiidae) clades.Focused sampling in the staghorn corals (genus <i>Acropora</i>)highlights the ability of sequence capture to inform the taxonomy of a clade previously deficient in molecular resolution. A mean of 1850 (± 298) loci were captured per taxon (955 UCEs, 894 exons), and a 75% complete concatenated alignment of 96 samples included 1792 loci (991 UCE, 801 exons) and ~1.87 million base pairs. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian analyses recovered robust molecular relationships and revealed that species-level relationships within the <i>Acropora</i>are incongruent with traditional morphological groupings. Both UCE and exon datasets delineated six well-supported clades within <i>Acropora.</i>The enhanced bait set will facilitate investigations of the evolutionary history of many important groups of reef corals, particularly where previous molecular marker development has been unsuccessful.</p>
Juno Radio Occultation Data Sets
<p>These files report data products derived from Juno radio occultations of the Io plasma torus. Juno has used two different experimental configurations to conduct radio occultation observations of the Io plasma torus. A configuration with X-band uplink coherently driving both X-band downlink and Ka-band downlink was used on Perijoves 1 and 13. In this document, this is described as the (X/X, X/Ka) configuration. It is described in Phipps et al. 2018. A configuration with X-band uplink coherently driving X-band downlink and Ka-band coherently driving Ka-band downlink was used on Perijoves 3, 6, 8, 10, 11, 14, and 15. In this document, this is described as the (X/X, Ka/Ka) configuration. It is described in Phipps et al. 2019.The work of D. Buccino, M. Parisi and O. <p>This is the raw data for the olfactory response experiments on preference for <em>Mucor circinelloides</em> over edible mushrooms in the fungus gnat <em>Bradysia impatiens</em> (Diptera: Sciaridae).</p>
Mars orbital image (HiRISE) labeled data set version 3.2
<p> </p> <p><strong>Please note that the file hirise-map-proj-v3_2.zip below contains the latest images and labels associated with this data set. </strong></p> <p> </p> <p>This dataset contains a total of 64,947 landmark images that were detected and extracted from HiRISE browse images, spanning 232 separate source images.</p> <p>This set was formed from 10,815 original landmarks. Each original landmark was cropped to a square bounding box that included the full extent of the landmark plus a 30-pixel margin to the left, right, top, and bottom. Each landmark was then resized to 227x227 pixels. 9,022 of these images were then augmented to generate 6 additional landmarks using the following methods:</p> <p>1. 90 degrees clockwise rotation<br> 2. 180 degrees clockwise rotation<br> 3. 270 degrees clockwise rotation<br> 4. Horizontal flip<br> 5. Vertical flip<br> 6. Random brightness adjustment</p> <p>The remaining 1,793 images were not augmented. File includes three columns separated by a space: filename, class_id, set<br> - landmarks_map-proj-v3_2_classmap.csv: Dictionary that maps class ids to semantic names</p> <p><strong>Class Discussion:</strong></p> <p>We give a discussion of the various landmarks that make up our classes.<strong> </strong></p> <p>Bright dune and dark dune are two sand dune classes found on Mars. Dark dunes are completely defrosted, whereas bright dunes are not. Bright dunes are generally bright due to overlying frost and can exhibit black spots where parts of the dune are defrosting.</p> <p>The crater class consists of crater images in which the diameter of the crater is greater than or equal to 1/5 the width of the image and the circular rim is visible for at least half the crater's circumference.</p> <p>The slope streak class consists of images of dark flow-like features on slopes. These features are believed to be formed by a dry process in which overlying (bright) dust slides down a slope and reveals a darker sub-surface.</p> <p>Impact ejecta refers to material that is blasted out from the impact of a meteorite or the eruption of a volcano. We also include cases in which the impact cleared away overlying dust, exposing the underlying surface. In some cases, the associated crater may be too small to see. Impact ejecta can also include lava that spilled out from the impact (blobby ("lobate") instead of blast-like), more like an eruption (triggered by the impact). Impact ejecta can be isolated, or they can form in clusters when the impactor breaks up into multiple fragments.</p> <p>Spiders and Swiss cheese are phenomena that occur in the south polar region of Mars. Spiders have a central pit with radial troughs, and they are believed to form as a result of sublimation of carbon dioxide ice. This process can produce mineral deposits on top, which look like dark or light dust that highlights cracks in the CO2 ice. Spiders can resemble impact ejecta due to their radial troughs, but impact ejecta tends to have straight radial jets that fade as they get farther from the center. The spider class also includes fan-like features that form when a geyser erupts through the CO2 layer and the material is blown by the wind away from the cracks. Fans are typically unidirectional (following the wind direction), whereas impact ejecta often extends in multiple directions. Swiss cheese is a terrain type that consists of pits that are formed when the sun heats the ice making it sublimate (change solid to gas).</p> <p>Other is a catch-all class that contains images that fit none of the defined classes of interest. This class makes up the majority of our data set.</p>
Data set - Idealized ridge simulations with ICAR and WRF
<p>The verification of models in general is a non-trivial task and can, due to epistemological and practical reasons, never be considered as complete. As a consequence, a model may yield correct results for the wrong reasons, i.e. by a different chain of processes than found in observations. While in the atmospheric sciences guidelines and strategies exist to maximize the chances that models are correct for the right reasons, these are mostly applicable to full-physics models, such as numerical weather prediction models. The Intermediate Complexity Atmospheric Research (ICAR) model is an atmospheric model employing linear mountain wave theory to represent the wind field. In this wind field atmospheric quantities, such as temperature and moisture are advected and a microphysics scheme is applied to represent the formation of clouds and precipitation. This study conducts an in-depth process-based evaluation of ICAR, employing idealized simulations to increase the understanding of the model and develop recommendations to maximize the probability that its results are correct for the right reasons. To contrast the obtained results from the linear-theory-based ICAR model to a full-physics model, idealized simulations with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model are conducted. The impact of the developed recommendations is then demonstrated with a case study for the South Island of New Zealand. The results of this investigation suggest three modifications to improve different aspects of ICAR simulations. The representation of the wind field within the domain improves when the dry and the moist Brunt-Väisälä frequencies are calculated in accordance to linear mountain wave theory from the unperturbed base state rather than from the time-dependent perturbed atmosphere. Imposing boundary conditions at the upper boundary different to the standard zero gradient boundary condition is shown to reduce errors in the potential temperature and water vapor fields. Furthermore, the results show that there is a lowest possible model top elevation that should not be undercut to avoid influences of the model top on cloud and precipitation processes within the domain. The method to determine the lowest model top elevation is applied to both the idealized simulations as well as the real terrain case study. Notable differences between the ICAR and WRF simulations are observed across all investigated quantities such as the wind field, water vapor and hydrometeor distributions, and the distribution of precipitation. The case study indicates a large shift in the precipitation maximum for the ICAR simulation employing the developed recommendations in contrast to an unmodified version of ICAR. The cause for the shift is found in influences of the model top on cloud formation and precipitation processes in the ICAR simulations. Furthermore, the results show that when model skill is evaluated from statistical metrics based on comparisons to surface observations only, such analysis may not reflect the skill of the model in capturing atmospheric processes such as gravity waves and cloud formation.</p>

Survey Data Set Part 2 - Attitudes Towards Videos as a Documentation Option for Communication in Requirements Engineering
<p>In 2017, I conducted an online survey to explore software professionals' attitudes towards videos as a documentation option for communication in requirements engineering. The survey covered the following topics:</p> <ul> <li>Demographics</li> <li>Attitude towards videos as a medium in RE including its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats</li> <li>Current production and use of videos in RE, respectively the obstacles that prevent the production and use of videos</li> </ul> <p>64 out of 106 software professionals from industry and academia completed the survey. <p>Data sets supporting the expert search and reviewer set assignment tasks extracted from <em>conferences Meeting on the Mathematics of Language '17</em> (MOL'17), <em>Datenbanksysteme für Business, Technologie und Web '17</em> (BTW'17) and<em> European Conference on Information Retrieval '17</em> (ECIR'17).</p> <p>The three data sets consist of information regarding accepted manuscripts of the venues as well as possible reviewers and information on these reviewer candidates. The manuscript data partially contains relevance assessments of reviewers with respect to these manuscripts as well as suitability rankings of reviewer sets. The assessments were conducted by an expert from the same domain. The structure of the data is modelled in manTemplate.json and revTemplate.json (contained in Templates.zip).</p>
Data set: Burn severity and soil chemistry are weak drivers of early vegetation succession following a boreal mega-fire in a production forest landscape
<p>Data used in the analyses of the study. Data set on soil chemistry (pH, organic content, nutrient content), plots distance to the fire perimeter, and plant communities (vascular plants and bryophytes) recorded in permanent plots on clearcuts in a burn-severity gradient two and five years following a wildfire. Data collected from a 13000 hectare wildfire that occurred in 2014, in boreal southern Sweden. Calculated trait means from data bases, and plant community data from unburned plots from another study, are are also included here.</p>
