Dataset of initiatives selling ancient cereals and minor legumes in short and mid-tier chains in 7 European Countries
<p>This is a databse consisting of 1268 initiatives in 7 European countries that are selling or promoting neglected and underutilised crops (NUCs). The concerned NUCs are ancient cereals and minor legumes.</p> <p>The data included in this databse was collected from websites, facebook and instagram pages that are all publicly available.</p>
Data for: A harmonized database of European forest simulations under climate change
<p>This repository contains the database presented in the publication "A harmonized database of European forest simulations under climate change". It contains a collection of harmonized forest simulation model outputs from 17 different models covering 1.1 million individual simulation runs, over 136 million simulation years across over 13,599 unique locations in Europe.</p> <p>Detailed description can be found in the publication (<a title="Persistent link using digital object identifier" href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.dib.2024.110384" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">https://doi.org/10.1016/j.dib.2024.110384</a>). The file "forest_simulation_db_v1.7z" contains all raw simulation outputs and a metadata table of all simulations including information about locations and harmonized soil conditions for those locations. Simulation outputs with harmonized climate data are stored in one SQLite database per climate scenario.</p> <p>The code that was used to create the database, as well as to access and explore the data can be found here: https://github.com/magrueni/forest_simulation_database.git</p> <p>Note: Please be cautious with the use of the simulations with unique identifiers 1037-1047. There were some abrupt species compositions changes reported that suggest that in a small number of the original simulations there was an underlying issue in the compilation of the raw simulation data.</p> <p> </p> <p>--- Please use the updated version 1.1 ---</p> <p>Unfortunately we found an bug in the daily climate extraction process of the previous version, leading to inconsistencies in the harmonized climate data. How can the European Ecodesign Directive guide the deployment of hydrogen-related products for mobility?
<p>Fuel cells and hydrogen products are expected to be increasingly deployed as European economies set course towards the energy transition. In order to actually contribute to the overall goal of sustainability, these products should be conceived as sustainable-by-design options and effective assessment tools are thus required to guide the design process. For the first time in the specific field of hydrogen-related products, this work tests and discusses the suitability of the instrument provided by the European Ecodesign Directive for such purposes: the EcoReport tool linked to the Methodology for Ecodesign of Energy-related Products. To that end, the propulsion systems of a fuel cell passenger car and a fuel cell heavy duty truck were assessed. First, two base cases defined according to current key performance indicators were implemented in the EcoReport tool to gain insights into ecodesign hotspots and gaps of the tool for its practical use to evaluate hydrogen-related products. Secondly, after adjusting the EcoReport tool according to the findings of the previous step, both cases were parametrised to estimate, under eco-efficiency and criticality aspects, up to which extent short-term technological targets could improve their performance. Overall, the EcoReport tool is concluded to be valuable for an early assessment and subsequent development of ecodesign measures for hydrogen-related products provided that it is upgraded in terms of direct data availability, updated criticality characterisation factors and impact assessment methods. By reaching the key performance indicators expected for 2030, the assessed products for mobility would arise as competitive road transport alternatives. Nevertheless, this performance is highly dependent on the production pathway of the hydrogen used as a fuel, which highlights the need for a holistic deployment of the hydrogen economy.</p>
European Archetype Distribution Grid Models
<p>This database contains publicly available representative European archetype distribution grid models, which where identified through an extensive literature review. All included grid models were converted into a standardised data format. Barriers to crop diversification across 25 European case-studies (dataset)
<p>The data set presents the presence or absence of barriers to crop diversification at different levels of value chain across contrasted European case-studies. Data were collected based on participatory workshops involving a causal analysis of challenges of crop diversification and complementary interviews with the 25 innovations teams of case-studies at the chore of the DiverIMPACTS project (https://www.diverimpacts.net/). These data account for the initial perception of barriers in the initial phase of the innovation project and may have evolved since.</p> <p>For more information about the data collection and project and further discussion, please refer to the paper "<strong>Innovating within or outside dominant food systems? Different challenges for contrasting crop diversification strategies in Europe</strong>" of Morel et al. submitted to the journal Plos One.</p>
The effects of e-government evaluation, trust and the digital divide in the levels of e-government use in European countries
<p>Despite the significant amounts of public investment devoted to enhancing e-government over the last ten years, citizens’ use of this service is still limited, posing a challenge to national governments. Using a regression analysis applied to panel data derived from 27 European countries for the period from 2010 to 2018, our work confirms that supply-side e-government performance evaluations, the level of citizen trust in the government, income per capita and education are determinants of the level of citizens’ use of e-government. Furthermore, the results of the cluster analysis suggest that, over the study period, in the group of countries with highest e-government use rates, the variables under study exhibit more favourable relative values.</p>
