HYGROTHERMAL PROPERTIES OF HISTORIC BRICKS FROM VARIOUS SITES OF LATVIA

There are available hygrothermal simulation tools that allow to model possible scenarios for optimization of thermal transmittance of historic wall, creating complex insulation systems. The accuracy of the results depends on the conformity of the input data to the specific design of existing wall. The properties of materials selected in the simulation tool should reflect as close as possible the properties of the wall under investigation. For theses tools to be widely applicable the material library has to include various materials from various regions, thus allowing architects, planners, real estate developers and homeowners of Latvia to use the simulation tool with greater reliance on the accuracy of the simulation results. In order to obtain a result in mathematical modelling software simulating the humidity transfer processes, which would reflect the situation as close to the real conditions as possible, the database built into the modelling software should be supplemented with materials specific to the Latvian construction periods and obtained in different locations. Dataset Contains hygrothermal parameters of 40 different historic brick samples from Latvia (Density, Porosity, Water vapor resistance factor, etc.). Standard measurement methods with some adjustments were used to determine hygrothermal parameters of brick samples. The material properties were determined for a specific reason, to be used as a input data for creation of hygrothermal simulation tool material file, in this case DELPHIN simulation tool. Therefore, some deviations from the testing standards were implemented. These deviation were developed by Dresden University of Technology (also the developers of DELPHIN simulation tool) and are described in file "description.docx".

Developmental and water deficit-induced changes in hydraulic properties and xylem anatomy of tomato fruit and pedicel

Xylem water transport from the parent plant into the fruit plays a crucial role in fruit growth, development, and quality formation. Current research on fruit hydraulics has attempted to partition the hydraulic resistance of the pathway over development. However, no consensus has been reached and this question has not been addressed in the context of changing plant and fruit water status under water deficit. We rigorously investigated the developmental changes of hydraulic property of the fruit and pedicel under well-irrigated condition and water deficit based on hydraulic measurements, fruit rehydration, dye tracing, light and electron microscopy, and flow modeling. A decline in water transport capacity did not occur in the pathway prior to the fruit, but within the fruit itself, which might lie in the xylem and/or outside-xylem pathway. The developmental pattern of pathway hydraulic resistance was not significantly influenced by water deficit. The changed xylemic water flow between the fruit and the parent plant due to a reduced driving force under water deficit could explain the reduced fruit water accumulation. This work provides new insights into the understanding of xylem water transport in fleshy fruits and its sensitivity to water deficit from a hydraulics perspective.

The physicochemical and thermal properties of deep eutectic solvent with different hydrogen bond donor (alpha hydroxy acid and polyol)

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are a novel class of solvents that have gathered interest due to their unique properties particularly in its application of biomass fractionation. It is critical to study its properties from an engineering standpoint because of its importance in mass transfer, fluid mechanics, modelling, simulation and equipment design. The comparison of physicochemical and thermal properties of DESs has not been thoroughly investigated, particularly when a different functional group, such as alpha hydroxy acid (lactic acid, LA) or polyol (glycerol, Gly), is used as the hydrogen bond donor (HBD). Furthermore, understanding how molar ratios affect properties is crucial since they may be fine-tuned to meet the needs of specific applications. Thus, the purpose of this study is to determine the physicochemical properties (viscosity, density, refractive index and pH) and the thermal properties (freezing point and decomposition temperature) of DESs with different HBD functional groups (LA and Gly) at various molar ratios (1:2–1:10). The HBD's functional groups and molar ratio change significantly impacted the properties due to hydrogen bonding sites and strength, alkyl chain length and molecular weight and electrostatic and dispersion interactions. The correlation between DESs molar ratios and properties is not always linearly due to eutectic phenomena.
