Geomorphic dating of across-fault gully incision reveals time-invariant late Quaternary slip-rates at the eastern termination of the Altyn Tagh Fault
<p>Interpretation of fault slip-rates inferred from tectonically offset fluvial landforms is often limited by uncertainties associated with difficulties to explicitly date fluvial incision across the fault. Here, we employed morphology-based modeling to ameliorate this universal dating limitation for gullies that were differentially offset in a sinistral sense across the Altyn Tagh Fault near its eastern termination at ~97°E. Using a stream-power erosion model with locally calibrated coefficients we calculated across-fault gully incision ages that decrease with offset magnitude, are up to threefold younger than the age of the terrace they incised and all-together point towards time-invariant sinistral slip. Luminescence dating of offset alluvial terraces at the same site suggests constant sinistral slip at 0.5±0.1 mm/yr since 52±4 ka. Our results are consistent with northeastward expansion of the Tibetan Plateau into stable parts of central Asia through an episodic, “stepwise” process punctuated by prolonged geologic time intervals of constant deformation rates.</p>
Self-Limiting Earthquake Dynamics and Spatio-Temporal Clustering of Seismicity Enabled by Off-Fault Plasticity
<p>Earthquakes are among nature’s deadliest and costliest hazards. Physics-based simulations are essential for overcoming the lack of data and elucidating the complex patterns of earthquakes. Enabled by a novel numerical scheme, this work discovers a new mechanism for regulating earthquake dynamics that emerges due to the co-evolution of fault slip and fault zone plasticity. It enables transition from periodic events to fully irregular sequences of earthquakes. The impact of plasticity on earthquake source characteristics goes beyond its limited contribution to the overall energy budget, emphasized in earlier studies, to underscore its crucial role on the redistribution of stresses that self-limits earthquake growth and leads to clustering of seismicity. This work highlights the need for characterizing the fault zone mechanical response beyond their elastic properties to better inform seismic hazard models.</p>

WYC seismic phases for "Lighting up an 1-km fault near a hydraulic fracturing well using machine-learning based picker"
<p>In this study, we applied a state-of-the-art package on newly collected nodal-array data around a hydraulic-fracturing well. The array consists of up to 85 nodes with an average station spacing of less than a kilometer. Within the hydraulic-fracturing stimulation weeks, we detected ~3000 seismic events with magnitude down to ~-2. </p> <p>The seismic phases to associate the events are included in Zenodo_share.zip. The final catalog and station locations (in relative scale) are included in the excel spreadsheet.</p>

<p><strong>Detailed map of the surface ruptures and affected geomorphological markers for the Ar-Khutul section of the Khovd Fault in the Mongolian Altay. Observations are based on a multi-scale approach combining a range of airborne and terrestrial imaging and topographic techniques: Sentinel-2, Pleiades, TanDEM-X, UAV, and terrestrial laser scanning. This dataset is composed of a detailed map of tectonic scarps with a distribution of offset values below 10 m.</strong></p>

<p>This dataset contains a series of Analogue Models for comparing and testing positive tectonic inversion mechanisms and their newly formed structures . Furthermore, it includes 2-D seismic reflection profiles that can be compared with the models presented here. Finally, examples of natural cases that show tectonic inversion processes are included. Both, seismic lines and photos are located on a segment of Andean forearc, specifically, in the Domeyko Cordillera and the Preandean Basins, northern Chile.</p>
UAV-based DEM along the Beng Co fault, central Tibet
<p>These data are the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) topography surveying data (.tif) of several offset lake shorelines and fluvial terraces/fans along the Beng Co fault. </p> <p>The UAV data were acquired by ~80 m high aerial photographs using a DJI (Dajiang Innovations Science and Technology Co., Ltd.) Phantom 4 quadrotor copter mounted with a 12.4-megapixel digital camera and measured 12 ground control points (GCPs) using a Trimble R8 RTK-GPS with an accuracy of several centimeters. High-resolution digital elevation models (DEM) were produced by PhotoScan software.</p>

A small CO2 leakage may reactivate a sub-seismic fault in a good-porosity clastic saline aquifer
<p>Seismograms.h5: HDF5 data set that contains the raw seismograms for all the 19 events (named ‘/event_X’ for the X-th event). Each seismogram contains 909 channels and 7000 samples for each trace, with a sampling frequency 1 kHz. The channel identification is stored in ‘/receiver_coordinates’, a 909 by 6 array, with the six columns having receiver line number, station number within the line, station name, UTM (zone 54H) easting (meters), UTM (zone 54H) northing (meters), and elevation (meters).</p>
Nontrivial gapless states at the stacking faults of weak topological insulators
<p>This code is used to study the topological properties of weak topological insulators in the presence of a stacking fault. Each WTI is made by a stack of zigzag ribbons stacked on top of each other in the z direction. There are two types of WTIs taken into consideration. One has a topological ribbon and a insulating spacer in each unit cell (two layers per unit cell). The other one has one topological layer and two spacers in each unit cell (three layers per unit cell).</p>
