'<strong>Time perception and patience: Individual differences in interval timing precision predict choice impulsivity in European starlings, <em>Sturnus vulgaris'</em></strong></p> <p>Version of November 02 2020</p> <p>The data are presented here with different degrees of processing (i.e. from every trial on every day by every bird separately in 'timing data.Rdata', to one summary row per bird in 'timing data by bird.csv'). Separate scripts do the processing, fit polynomials, reproduce the by-bird analyses in the paper, and run the numerical model. Please see the document 'Description of R scripts and files' for details of the different versions of the data and what each script does.</p> <p> </p>
Data from: Does fertility status influence impulsivity and risk taking in human females? Adaptive influences on intertemporal choice and risky decision making
Informed by the research on adaptive decision making in other animal species, this study investigated human females' intertemporal and risky choices across the ovulatory cycle. We tested the hypothesis that at peak fertility, women who are exposed to environments that signal availability of higher quality mates (by viewing images of attractive males), become more impulsive and risk-seeking in economic decision tasks. To test this, we collected intertemporal and risky choice measures before and after exposure to images of either attractive males or neutral landscapes both at peak and low fertility conditions. The results showed an interaction between women's fertility status and image type, such that women at peak fertility viewing images of attractive men chose the smaller, sooner monetary reward option less than women at peak fertility viewing neutral images. Neither fertility status nor image type influenced risky choice. Thus, though exposure to images of men altered intertemporal choices at peak fertility, this occurred in the opposite direction than predicted—i.e., women at peak fertility became less impulsive. Nevertheless, the results of the current study provide evidence for shifts in preferences over the ovulatory cycle and opens future research on economic decision making.
Data from: Longitudinal analysis of impulse control disorders in Parkinson's disease
Objective: To investigate the longitudinal dose-effect relationship between dopamine replacement therapy and impulse control disorders (ICDs) in Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods: We used data from a multicentre longitudinal cohort of consecutive PD patients with ≤5y disease duration at baseline followed annually up to 5y. ICDs were evaluated during face-to-face semi-structured interviews with movement disorder specialists. Generalized estimating equations Poisson models with robust variance were used to study the association between several time-dependent definitions of dopamine agonist (DA) use, taking dose and duration of treatment into account, and ICDs at each visit; other antiparkinsonian drugs were also examined. Results: Among 411 patients (40.6% women; mean age=62.3y, average follow-up=3.3y, SD=1.7y), 356 (86.6%) took DA at least once since disease onset. In 306 patients without ICDs at baseline, the 5y cumulative incidence of ICDs was 46.1% (95% CI=37.4-55.7; DA ever-users=51.5% [41.8-62.1]; DA never-users=12.4% [4.8-30.0]). ICDs prevalence increased from 19.7% at baseline to 32.8% after 5y. ICDs were associated with ever DA use (prevalence ratio, PR=4.23 [1.78, 10.09]). Lifetime average daily dose and duration of treatment were independently associated with ICDs, with significant dose-effect relations. Similar analyses for levodopa were not in favour of a strong association. ICDs progressively resolved after DA discontinuation. Conclusions: In this longitudinal study of PD patients characterized by a high prevalence of DA treatment, the 5y cumulative incidence of ICDs was ~46%. ICDs were strongly associated with DA use, with a dose-effect relationship; both increasing duration and dose were associated with ICDs. ICDs progressively resolved after DA discontinuation.

Dataset of impulse responses from variable acoustics room Arni at Aalto Acoustic Labs
<p>A dataset of impulse responses collected in the variable acoustics laboratory Arni at Acoustics Lab of Aalto University, Espoo, Finland.</p> <p>IRs of 5342 configurations of sound absorption in Arni are included in the dataset. Each of them were measured using an omnidirectional sound source and 5 sound receivers. For each configuration, 5 IRs were captured. The ability to adaptively minimize not only motor but cognitive symptoms of neurological diseases, such as Parkinson's Disease (PD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), is a primary goal of next-generation deep brain stimulation (DBS) devices. On the basis of studies demonstrating a link between beta-band synchronization and severity of motor symptoms in PD, the minimization of beta band activity has been proposed as a potential training target for closed-loop DBS. At present, no comparable signal is known for the impulsive side effects of PD, though multiple studies have implicated theta band activity within the subthalamic nucleus (STN), the site of DBS treatment, in processes of conflict monitoring and countermanding. Here, we address this challenge by recording from multiple independent channels within the STN in a self-paced decision task to test whether these signals carry information sufficient to predict stopping behavior on a trial-by-trial basis. As in previous studies, we found that local field potentials (LFPs) exhibited modulations preceding self-initiated movements, with power ramping across multiple frequencies during the deliberation period. In addition, signals showed phasic changes in power around the time of decision. However, a prospective model that attempted to use these signals to predict decision times showed effects of risk level did not improve with the addition of LFPs as regressors. These findings suggest information tracking the lead-up to impulsive choices is distributed across multiple frequency scales in STN, though current techniques may not possess sufficient signal-to-noise ratios to predict—and thus curb—impulsive behavior on a moment-to-moment basis.
