Dataset from: Incomplete lineage sorting and reticulate evolution mask species relationships in Brunelliaceae, an Andean family with rapid, recent diversification

Premise: To date, phylogenetic relationships within the monogeneric Brunelliaceae have been based on morphological evidence, which does not provide sufficient phylogenetic resolution. Here we use target-enriched nuclear data to improve our understanding of phylogenetic relationships in the family.

Methods: We used the Angiosperms353 toolkit for targeted recovery of exonic regions and supercontigs (exons + introns) from low copy nuclear genes from 53 of 70 species in Brunellia, and several outgroup taxa. We removed loci that indicated biased relationships and applied concatenated and coalescent methods to infer Brunellia phylogeny. We identified conflicts among gene trees that may reflect hybridization or incomplete lineage-sorting events and assessed their impact on the phylogeny. Finally, we performed ancestral-state reconstructions of morphological traits and assessed the homology of character states used to define sections and subsections in Brunellia.

Results: Brunellia comprises two major clades and several subclades. Most of these clades/subclades do not correspond to previous infrageneric taxa. There is high topological incongruence among the subclades across analyses.

Conclusions: Phylogenetic reconstructions point to rapid species diversification in Brunelliaceae, reflected in very short branches between successive species splits. The removal of putatively biased loci slightly improves phylogenetic support for individual clades. Reticulate evolution due to hybridization and/or incomplete lineage sorting likely both contribute to gene-tree discordance. Morphological characters used to define taxa in current classification schemes are homoplastic in the ancestral character state reconstructions. While target enrichment data allows us to broaden our understanding of diversification in Brunellia, the relationships among subclades remain incompletely understood.

Stable landings mask irreversible community reorganizations in an overexploited Mediterranean ecosystem

1. Background. Cumulative human pressures can induce non-linear discontinuous dynamics in ecosystems, known as regime shifts. Regime shifts typically imply hysteresis, a lacking or delayed system response when pressures are reverted, which can frustrate restoration efforts.

2. The goal of the study. Here we investigate whether the northern Adriatic Sea fish and macroinvertebrate community, depicted by commercial fishery landings, has undergone irreversible regime shifts over the last 40 years.

3. What was done. We use a stochastic cusp model to show that, under the interactive effect of fishing and warming, the community reorganized through discontinuous changes.

4. What was found. Part of the community has now reached a new stable state, implying that a recovery towards previous baselines might be impossible. Interestingly, total landings remained constant across decades, masking the low resilience of the community.

5. The relevance. Our study reveals the importance of carefully assessing regime shifts and resilience in marine ecosystems and advocates for their inclusion into management.

Oni Mask
Oni mask i made as a personal project. This mask is part of the same set as the dragon bow (on my profile). In the future i want to make some character with both these assets but im not that great in character design/ creation. I had some trouble this project with retopologizing the teeth and with making the inside of the mask Work process was: ZBrush > Maya retopo > Substance Painter Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

The Mask of Agamennon
The Mask of Agamemnon is an artifact discovered at Mycenae in 1876 by Heinrich Schliemann. It has been lauded as the "Mona Lisa of prehistory". The artifact is a funeral mask smithed in gold and was found over the face of a body in a burial shaft designated Grave V at the site "Grave Circle A, Mycenae". Schliemann believed that he had discovered the body of the legendary Greek leader Agamemnon, naming his son after him in 1878, but modern archaeological research suggests that the mask is from 1550–1500 BCE—earlier than the life of Agamemnon, as tradition regards it. The mask is currently displayed in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. Mask
Hahner,Herzog, I. Keeskési, M. Vajda, L. 1997. L'autre Visage. Masques Africains de la collection Barbier-Mueller. Acquisition: 2011 à Gabon Emplacement: Collection particulier, Madrid Auteurs: Pablo Gutiérrez de Leon et Jose Luis Daza Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

African Mask
Another Mask i made on the train on my way to work. Modeld in Zbrush and textured in Substance Painter. You can download it for free if you want to :) This is an african mask with paintings on it.. my dad had a lot of masks on a wall in a corner of our living room. They were beautiful but also kind of scary. I will create a similar wall in 3D and try to render it as realistic as i can! This is just a small part of the entire project.
