Pattern of Using Semaglutide Injection among the Population in Saudi Arabia

<p>Semaglutide injection with lifestyle intervention has been shown to be more effective than lifestyle modification alone. However, pharmacological intervention shows fewer side effects than bariatric surgery. This cross-sectional study was conducted among the general population in Saudi Arabia. A self-administered questionnaire was sent among the targeted population using an online survey. The questionnaire includes socio-demographic data (e.g., age, gender, marital status, etc.), general awareness about Semaglutide injection, and a 4-item questionnaire to measure the knowledge about Semaglutide. Of the 382 participants, 52.4% were males, and 44.8% were aged between 18 to 30 &nbsp;years old. The level of knowledge about Semaglutide injection was poor among 69.4%, while the rest had good knowledge (30.6%). The overall mean knowledge score was 1.62 (SD 1.26) out of 4 points. Younger participants, gender female, unmarried, unemployed, normal or underweight, aware of Semaglutide injection, previous usage of Semaglutide, satisfaction with Semaglutide, and knowledge about combined benefits (diabetes control and weight loss) of Semaglutide injections were the factors associated with increased knowledge score. The knowledge of the general population regarding Semaglutide injection was lacking. Younger female participants with normal body weight who were satisfied with Semaglutide were identified as the most significant users of Semaglutide injections. Further investigations are needed to extract more data about the general population's knowledge of Semaglutide injections.</p>

Glycemic Control After Sleeve Gastrectomy in Taif Hospitals, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Misconceptions about COVID-19 vaccine among adults in Saudi Arabia and their associated factor

<p>It is of the utmost importance for the elements that influence public compliance to the COVID-19 vaccine to be assessed, including misconceptions, rumors, and conspiracy theories. Hence our study aimed to estimate the distribution of the most common misconceptions and their predictors in Saudi Arabia. We distributed an online questionnaire to participants who were 18 years or older at the time of the survey, which included four sections: demographic characteristics of participants, level of their education, their sources of information, and perception of participants regarding eleven of the most common misconceptions in the community.</p> <p>An evaluation of the relationships between different predictors and acceptance of these misconceptions was conducted using ordinal logistic regression; the most widely accepted misconception was that the vaccine has serious side effects, with 34.8% of participants reporting this.</p> <p><strong>Accepting this misinformation</strong> Factors that were significantly associated with acceptance or refusal of misconceptions were:</p> <p><span>Gender</span>, as females in this survey significantly accept rumors more than males (p&lt;0.001);</p> <p><span>Educational level</span>, especially secondary school, was associated with a significant decrease in acceptance of misconceptions (p=0.001);</p> <p><span>Information source</span>. 60.5% of participants use social media as their primary source of information, and it was also a significant positive predictor of acceptance of misconceptions (p=0.034).</p> <p>It is of utmost importance to increase assurance in the safety of the vaccine, as it was the most accepted misconception, and to address the elements that affect believing rumors among the population.</p>

Interview guide of study conducted on: Identification of the challenges teachers face in teaching small problem-based learning (PBL) groups in the College of Medicine, King Faisal University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

<p><strong>Background:</strong> Recognizing the challenges that teachers face offers a platform for devising innovative teaching strategies, thereby boosting teacher performance. This study seeks to pinpoint the obstacles teachers encounter while conducting small problem-based learning (PBL) groups and to recommend measures that guide educational institutions in determining teacher training needs. Furthermore, the study explores the creation of interventions to bolster PBL teaching practices.</p> <p><strong>Methods:</strong> Utilizing a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were administered, prompting participants to contemplate the difficulties of instructing small PBL groups. Ten medical educators, purposefully selected based on their PBL teaching experience, participated. Verbatim transcripts were meticulously analysed using thematic analysis, facilitating code production, comparison, and overarching theme generation.</p> <p><strong>Results:</strong> The data underscored challenges associated with adopting PBL in a traditional educational setting, emphasizing the imperative for honed facilitation skills, fostering motivation towards PBL, and addressing the ramifications of students' conventional learning backgrounds. Notably, the accruement of experience over time, the enhanced confidence from managing diverse PBL groups, and the importance of knowledge exchange and shared experiences emerged as vital for PBL educators' professional growth.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Actively supporting teachers as they navigate shifts in their roles and urging the incorporation and adept application of teaching techniques can elevate teacher efficacy. Recommendations include the initiation of a teacher development program, the allocation of ample time and resources for student participation in PBL activities, the introduction of a comprehensive teacher assessment system, and the integration of quantitative research methods to further enrich teacher practices and professional advancement.</p>
