Results of the ROSCon24 Workshop Survey 'Hands-on with ROS2 Deliberation Technologies'

<p><span>Results of the ROSCon24 Deliberation Workshop Survey:</span></p> <p><span>The members of the ROS deliberation community group (ros-wg-delib) hosted a 'Hands-on with ROS2 Deliberation Technologies' workshop at ROSCon24 in Odense. The workshop aimed to showcase the diversity of deliberation technologies, including behaviour trees, finite-state machines, task planning, and verification and validation systems. Participants had the opportunity to tackle predefined tasks using deliberation tools such as BehaviorTree.CPP, FlexBE, ros_bt_py, SkiROS2, and the AS2FM tool by CONVINCE. Guided by the tools' creators, they explored how different technologies can be applied to solve various robotic challenges.</span></p> <p><span>A survey was conducted at the end of the workshop to gather feedback from participants about the tools they explored. The survey results highlight the strengths and limitations of each tool, offering insights into areas for improvement, and are particularly valuable for the newly introduced tools developed by the CONVINCE consortium.</span></p>

MRI data of 3D radial multi-echo spin-echo acquisition of the human brain at 3T with and without deliberate motion

<p>Radial 3D multi-echo spin echo acquisition of a human brain&nbsp; acquired with a house made sequence on a Prisma Siemens 3T MRI scanner.&nbsp;</p> <p>The data have been converted in ISMRMRD format.&nbsp;</p> <p>Two raw datasets are available, one with deliberate motion and one without.&nbsp;</p> <p>The sequence allows for retrospective motion correction based on self-navigation.&nbsp;</p> <p>The images can be reconstructed with the code available on Github: https://github.com/nadegecorbin/Reco_MESE_RAD.git</p> <p>Reconstructed images and associated T2 maps are also provided in the folder "Reconstruction".</p> <p>For the motion case, intermediate images are stored in "Motion/Moco/RecoTRImages", the corrected echoes are in "Motion/Moco/RecoEchoes". Data from: The role of deliberate practice in expert performance: revisiting Ericsson, Krampe, & Tesch-Römer

We sought to replicate Ericsson, Krampe, and Tesch-Römer's (1993) seminal study on deliberate practice. Ericsson et al. (1993) found that differences in retrospective estimates of accumulated amounts of deliberate practice corresponded to each skill level of student violinists. They concluded, "individual differences in ultimate performance can largely be accounted for by differential amounts of past and current levels of practice" (p. 392). We reproduced the methodology with notable exceptions, namely 1) employing a double-blind procedure, 2) conducting analyses better suited to the study design, and 3) testing previously-unanswered questions about teacher-designed practice—that is, we examined the way Ericsson et al. (1993) operationalized deliberate practice (practice alone), and their theoretical but previously unmeasured definition of deliberate practice (teacher-designed practice), and compared them. We did not replicate the core finding, that accumulated amounts of deliberate practice corresponded to each skill level. Overall, the size of the effect was substantial, but considerably smaller than the original study's effect size. Teacher-designed practice was perceived as less relevant to improving performance on the violin than practice alone. Further, amount of teacher-designed practice did not account for more variance in performance than amount of practice alone. Implications for the deliberate practice theory are discussed.

Data from: Deliberation favours social efficiency by making people disregard their relative shares: evidence from USA and India

Groups make decisions on both the production and the distribution of resources. These decisions typically involve a tension between increasing the total level of group resources (i.e. social efficiency) and distributing these resources among group members (i.e. individuals' relative shares). This is the case because the redistribution process may destroy part of the resources, thus resulting in socially inefficient allocations. Here we apply a dual-process approach to understand the cognitive underpinnings of this fundamental tension. We conducted a set of experiments to examine the extent to which different allocation decisions respond to intuition or deliberation. In a newly developed approach, we assess intuition and deliberation at both the trait level (using the Cognitive Reflection Test, henceforth CRT) and the state level (through the experimental manipulation of response times). To test for robustness, experiments were conducted in two countries: the USA and India. Despite absolute-level differences across countries, in both locations we show that: (i) time pressure and low CRT scores are associated with individuals' concerns for their relative shares and (ii) time delay and high CRT scores are associated with individuals' concerns for social efficiency. These findings demonstrate that deliberation favours social efficiency by overriding individuals' intuitive tendency to focus on relative shares.
