Os resultados mostram que todos os tipos de alinhamento entre ISS e inova&ccedil;&atilde;o influenciam positivamente o CP. O alinhamento com inova&ccedil;&atilde;o ambidestra teve um impacto 62% maior no CP do que o alinhamento com inova&ccedil;&otilde;es incrementais. Al&eacute;m disso, inova&ccedil;&otilde;es disruptivas tiveram efeitos positivos em ambientes hostis, enquanto inova&ccedil;&otilde;es explorat&oacute;rias e ambidestras tiveram impactos fortes em ambientes altamente din&acirc;micos.</p>

Navigating uncertainty in environmental DNA detection of a nuisance marine macroalga

<p>Early detection of nuisance species is crucial for the conservation and management of threatened ecosystems, reducing the risk of widespread establishment. Environmental DNA (eDNA) data can increase the sensitivity of biomonitoring programs, oftentimes with minimal cost and effort. However, eDNA analyses have inherent errors that can complicate the integration of molecular survey methods into existing management frameworks. Therefore, it is crucial for eDNA studies to consider imperfect detections and estimate error rates accordingly. Detecting nuisance species in low abundance with minimal uncertainty is vital to increase the chance of containment and eradication. We developed a novel eDNA assay to detect a nuisance marine macroalga across its colonization front using surface seawater samples from Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM), one of the world's largest marine reserves. <em>Chondria tumulosa</em>, a cryptogenic red alga with invasive characteristics, has been documented forming dense mats that overgrow coral reefs and smother native flora and fauna in PMNM. We verified the eDNA assay using site-occupancy detection modeling from quantification polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) data, calibrated with visual estimates of benthic cover of <em>C. tumulosa </em>that ranged from &lt; 1% to 95%. Results were subsequently validated with high-throughput sequencing of amplified eDNA and negative control samples. Overall, the probability of detecting <em>C. tumulosa </em>at occupied sites was at least 92% when multiple qPCR replicates were positive. Modeled false-positive inferences were 3% or less and false-negative errors were 11% or less. The developed assay is suitable for routine monitoring at shallow sites (less than 10 m), even when <em>C. tumulosa </em>abundance was less than 1%. Successful implementation of eDNA tools in conservation decision-making relies on balancing uncertainties in both visual and molecular detection methods. Our results and modeling demonstrated the assay's sensitivity to <em>C. tumulosa</em>, and we outline the necessary steps to infer ecological presence-absence from molecular detection data. By providing a reliable, cost-effective tool for detecting low-abundance species, eDNA analyses have the potential to enhance the surveillance of nuisance species and inform timely management interventions.</p>

Data from: Accounting for observation processes across multiple levels of uncertainty improves inference of species distributions and guides adaptive sampling of environmental DNA

Understanding factors that influence observation processes is critical for accurate assessment of underlying ecological processes. When indirect methods of detection, such as environmental DNA, are used to determine species presence, additional levels of uncertainty from observation processes need to be accounted for. We conducted a field trial to evaluate observation processes of a terrestrial invasive species (wild pigs- Sus scrofa) from DNA in water bodies. We used a multi-scale occupancy analysis to estimate different levels of observation processes (detection, p): the probability DNA is available per sample (θ), the probability of capturing DNA per extraction (γ), and the probability of amplification per qPCR run (δ). We selected four sites for each of three water body types and collected 10 samples per water body during two months (September and October 2016) in central Texas. Our methodology can be used to guide sampling adaptively to minimize costs while improving inference of species distributions. Using a removal sampling approach was more efficient than pooling samples, and was unbiased. Availability of DNA varied by month, was considerably higher when water pH was near neutral, and was higher in ephemeral streams relative to wildlife guzzlers and ponds. To achieve a cumulative detection probability greater than 90% (including availability, capture, and amplification), future studies should collect 20 water samples per site, conduct at least 2 extractions per sample, and conduct 5 qPCR replicates per extraction. Accounting for multiple levels of uncertainty of observation processes improved estimation of the ecological processes and provided guidance for future sampling designs.

Data from: Correlation between genetic diversity and environmental suitability: taking uncertainty from ecological niche models into account

The hindcast of shifts in the geographical ranges of species as estimated by ecological niche modelling (ENM) has been coupled with phylogeographical patterns, allowing the inference of past processes that drove population differentiation and genetic variability. However, more recently, some studies have suggested that maps of environmental suitability estimated by ENM may be correlated to species' abundance, raising the possibility of using environmental suitability to infer processes related to population demographic dynamics and genetic variability. In both cases, one of the main problems is that there is a wide variation in ENM development methods and climatic models. In this study, we analyse the relationship between heterozygosity (He) and environmental suitability from multiple ENMs for 25 population estimates for Dipteryx alata, a widely distributed, endemic tree species of the Cerrado region of central Brazil. We propose a new approach for generating a statistical distribution of correlations under randomly generated ENM. The confidence intervals from these distributions indicate how model selection with different properties affects the ability to detect a correlation of interest (e.g. the correlation between He and suitability). Additionally, our approach allows us to explore which particular ensemble of ENMs produces the better result for finding an association between environmental suitability and He. Caution is necessary when choosing a method or a climatic data set for modelling geographical distributions, but the new approach proposed here provides a conservative way to evaluate the ability of ensembles to detect patterns of interest.
