It commences:</p> <p>هذه رسالة سمرقندی من مصنفات</p> <p>الحافظ محمد سمرقندی الاول فی تجوید فاتحة الکتاب</p> <p>All the general principles of reading are exemplified from the first S&ucirc;rah, as usual. Abbreviations are used for the names of the readers, according to the system of Sh&acirc;ṭib&icirc;. Some confusion begins on fol. 105<em>v</em>., where a passage from fol. 102<em>r</em>. (الوقف علی الهمزة الخ) is repeated, but with a different conclusion on fol. 107<em>r</em>., where the MS. Abruptly ends. After some blank leaves, it recommences in the middle of fol. 108<em>r</em>. with the heading ذکر ذال اذ (which is also added as a catch-word to the former passage). It remains, however, doubtful whether this latter fragment belongs to the same treatise.
