Literature survey of seagrass disturbance-recovery studies up to May 2022

To provide context for the seagrass recovery experiment (SRE) a literature synthesis was conducted on prior studies of seagrass disturbance and recovery. The synthesis provided evidence that 1) less than half (47%) of all seagrass species have been included, 2) were primarily on monospecific meadows of Zostera, 3) where experimental, mostly done on small spatial scales (median = 0.25 m2), and 4) that there is a positive, non-linear relationship between recovery time and disturbance area. Most meadows had some, if not full recovery during the study period suggesting that seagrass meadows are stable across a broad set of conditions.

Pond data: physical, chemical, and biological characteristics with scientific and United States of America state definitions from literature and legislative surveys

Ponds are often identified by their small size and shallow depths, but the lack of a universal definition hampers science and weakens legal protection. In order to determine a working definition of ‘pond’, we conducted a literature search for scientific definitions, a U.S. state survey for management definitions, and looked at pond ecosystem function using data from the literature search. Our dataset includes physical, chemical, and biological data for 1327 waterbodies ≤ 20 ha in surface area and ≤ 9 m in maximum or mean depth from our literature review. These data have a global distribution, we include a table of latitudes and longitudes, and span many years (1946-2019). We have also included a table of 54 pond definitions from the literature review and a table of U.S. state definitions of ponds, wetlands, and lakes resulting from our survey.

Fig. 1 in Endoparasites of American marten (Martes americana): Review of the literature and parasite survey of reintroduced American marten in Michigan

Fig. 1. Hookworm egg from an American marten (Martes americana). There was no significant difference in the prevalence of hookworm eggs in faecal samples from American marten from the Upper Peninsula (n = 18) and Northern Lower Peninsula (n = 31) of Michigan, USA (prevalence 11.1% and 16.1%, respectively). American marten infected with hookworms were significantly more likely to be anaemic than noninfected American marten (P = 0.01) with an odds ratio of 8.75 (95% confidence interval: 1.4‾56.4).

Asthma control conundrum in clinical practice – Data from a two-stage Delphi survey and literature review

<p>Definitions and measures of asthma control used in clinical trials and practice often vary, as highlighted in the manuscript, &ldquo; Is asthma control more than just an absence of symptoms? An expert consensus statement&rdquo;. Furthermore, the authors discussed differences between patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs) in terms of understanding and managing asthma. Given these disparities, there is a need for consensus regarding what constitutes well-controlled asthma and, especially, how best it can be measured and recorded. This dataset describes and&nbsp;provides more detail on the methodology from a two-stage Delphi survey and a structured literature review, which were designed to reach a consensus definition of asthma control and alleviate misalignments between patients and HCPs.</p>
