Raw stable water isotope measurements in water vapour at 8 m a.s.l. on the port side of the ship, made in the austral summer of 2016/2017 during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE).

Dataset abstract

This dataset includes the raw data of stable water vapour isotope (δ18O, δ2H, deuterium excess) and water vapour mixing ratio measurements at a height of approximately 8 meters above sea level taken in the Southern Ocean during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) from November 2016 to April 2017 using a Picarro laser spectrometer L2120 mounted on the port side of the ship. The spectrometer was operated throughout the whole expedition. This data has to be calibrated using the calibration runs and applying an appropriate calibration procedure following the IAEA guide lines.

Two similar datasets also measuring stable water isotopes (SWIs) in water vapour were collected during the same expedition and can be distinguished from this dataset due to the height of the measurement collection (at 8 m a.s.l and 13.5 m a.s.l). The three ACE datasets of SWIs in water vapour are described and compared in Thurnherr et al. (2020).

Dataset contents

leg*/HBDS2190-yyyymmdd-hhmmssZ-DataLog_User.dat, data file, comma-separated values

data_file_header.txt, metadata, text format

README.txt, metadata, text format

Dataset license

This raw stable water isotope measurements dataset is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0) whose full description can be found at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Dataset citation

Please cite this dataset as:
Kozachek, A. Calibrated data of stable water isotope measurements in water vapour at 8 m a.s.l. on the starboard side of the ship, made in the austral summer of 2016/2017 around the Southern Ocean during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition.

Dataset abstract

This data set includes the calibrated data of stable water vapour isotope (δ18O, δ2H, deuterium excess) and water vapour mixing ratio measurements at approximately 8 m a.s.l. on the starboard of the ship, taken around the Southern Ocean during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) from February to March 2017 using a Picarro laser spectrometers L2130-i. The data provide continuous timelines of atmospheric water vapour properties in the marine boundary layer for studies of the atmospheric water cycle.

The raw data from which this calibrated dataset originates has been published separately (Kozachek, 2020; DOI 10.5281/zenodo.3667535).

Two other calibrated stable water isotope measurement datasets were also collected during ACE. They differ by the location of measurement on the ship: 8 m a.s.l on the port side (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.3739354) and 13.5 m a.s.l (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.3250790).

Dataset contents

ACE_watervapour_isotopes_SWI8-sb_1h.csv, data file, comma-separated values

ACE_watervapour_isotopes_SWI8-sb_5min.csv, data file, comma-separated values

cal_runs_SWI8-sb.csv, metadata, comma-separated values

cal_flag_times_SWI8-sb.csv, metadata, comma-separated values

data_file_header.txt, metadata, text format

README.txt, metadata, text format

NaN values denote missing values which occur because of e.g., maintenance, instrument calibration, large cavity variations.

Dataset license

This calibrated stable water isotope measurements in water vapour is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0) whose full text can be found at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

8-day, 500-m Gross Primary Production for Europe from 2001 to 2016(YEAR_doy: 2001001 to 2004329)

This is the 8-day average GPP (g C m-2 d-1) for Europe estimated by the Farquhar GPP Model. The multisource remote sensing datasets used to drive the FGM in this study included the 500 m 500 m yearly land use and land cover data from the MOD12Q1 C6 product (2001-2016), the 500 m 500 m 8-day LAI data from the GLASS V5 product (2001-2016), the 500 m 500 m 8-day clumping index data in 2006 derived from MODIS bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) data, the 500 m 500 m 8-day photosynthetic capacity (Vcmax) data derived from leaf chlorophyll content (2001-2016), and the 5 km 5 km daily downward shortwave radiation (DSR) data from the GLASS V5 product (2001-2016). We obtained the 0.5° 0.5° 6-hr climate data (including air temperature and relative humidity) from the Climatic Research Unit-NCEP (CRUNCEP) V7 (2001-2016). The vapor pressure deficit (VPD) was calculated from atmospheric pressure, the minimum and maximum air temperature, and relative humidity. Meteorological data used to drive FGM included the mean air temperature and VPD. In addition, site-level daily ambient CO2 concentrations observed at the Mauna Loa Observatory (MLO) site (2001 to 2016) were used to drive the FGM. DSR data were resampled to a spatial resolution of 500 m 500 m with bilinear interpolation. Climate data were aggregated to a targeted temporal resolution of 8 days and downscaled to a spatial resolution of 500 m 500 m with bilinear interpolation.

FIG. 8. A, Caluromys derbianus AMNH M-18910 in Transverse Canal Foramen And Pericarotid Venous Network In Metatheria And Other Mammals

FIG. 8. A, Caluromys derbianus AMNH M-18910 (Didelphidae, Didelphimorphia), adult caudal cranium in oblique caudoventral view. B, Caluromys sp. AMNH M-184599 (Didelphidae, Didelphimorphia), adult caudal cranium in endocranial view. Although transverse canal foramen is usually scored as completely absent in the short-tailed opossum group, in A a tiny dimple (single asterisk) lateral to exocranial opening of right carotid canal may represent vestige of vein's trackway, assuming it differentiated but did not persist. Equivalent opening is not seen on left side or in B. There is no swelling or eminence for transverse canals on endocranial floor, consistent with rostral branch tubes not being present. Endocranial carotid grooves contain only one aperture, for internal carotid neurovascular bundle, indicating caudal branch of transverse canal vein is also absent in this taxon. Note well marked foramina for craniopharyngeal (feature 1) and notochord (feature 2) canals.
