Unraveling a black box: An open-source methodology for the field calibration of small air quality sensors
<p>This repository contains data for the manuscript: "Unraveling a black box: An open-source methodology for the field calibration of small air quality sensors."</p> <p> </p> <p>This includes:</p> <p>Raw data from the low-cost prototype EarthSense Zephyrs, as well as raw data from reference instrumentation.</p> <p>SC stands for "Summer Campaign" and WC stands for "Winter Campaign", denoting the two different campaigns assessed in this study.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>The last two decades have seen substantial technological advances in the development of low-cost air pollution instruments using small sensors. While their use continues to spread across the field of atmospheric chemistry, challenges remain in ensuring data quality and comparability of calibration methods. This study introduces a seven-step methodology for the field calibration of low-cost sensors using reference instrumentation with user-friendly guidelines, open access code, and a discussion of common barriers to such an approach. The methodology has been developed and is applicable for gas-phase pollutants, such as for the measurement of nitrogen dioxide (NO<sub>2</sub>) or ozone (O<sub>3</sub>). A full example of the application of this methodology to a case study in an urban environment using both Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and the Random Forest (RF) machine-learning technique is presented with relevant R code provided, including error estimation. In this case, we have applied it to the calibration of metal oxide gas-phase sensors (MOS). Results reiterate previous findings that MLR and RF are similarly accurate, though with differing limitations. The methodology presented here goes a step further than most studies by including explicit, transparent steps for addressing model selection, validation, and tuning, as well as addressing the common issues of autocorrelation and multicollinearity. We also highlight the need for standardized reporting of methods for data cleaning and flagging, model selection and tuning, and model metrics. In the absence of a standardized methodology for the calibration of low-cost sensors, we suggest a number of best practices for future studies using low-cost sensors to ensure greater comparability of research.</p>

Implementing Traceability Repositories as Graph Databases for Software Quality Improvement: Datasets used to test our methodology that is presented in the paper 10.1109/QRS.2018.00040
<p>The first dataset is the Event Based Traceability for Managing Evolutionary Change (EBT), it is a public dataset provided by CoEST, the original artifacts and trace links are represented in XML and text format. From the EBT dataset, we selected the 41<em> requirements </em>and 25<em> test case </em>artifacts, in addition to the answer set of 51 trace links which relates the <em>requirements </em>with the<em> test case. </em>Artifacts and trace links are prepared in XML format<strong>. </strong>The data set contains XML for each artifact such as RQ.xml, EBTrelations.xml is the answer set file, TradModel.xml which describes the defined model and TradTraceabilityRule.xml that includes the rules applied for trace link types.</p> <p> </p> <p>The second dataset AgileOERP is collected from commercial management tool to customize an open source ERP applying agile methodology. It contains 350<em> user stories (US), </em>1323<em> tasks (TS) </em>and 198<em> developer test (DT) </em>artifacts, in addition to answer set of trace links that manually generated by developers which relates the <em>user story </em>artifact with<em> task (</em>1304) artifact, as such relates the <em>task </em>artifact with<em> developer test </em>artifact (65). Fox, Introduction to Software Engineering Design: Processes, Principles and Patterns with UML2. Addison-Wesley, 2006”. The trace links are generated and provided in “E. Ben Charrada, D. Caspar, C. Jeanneret, and M. Glinz, towards a benchmark for traceability, in Joint EVOL and IWPSE 2011, pp. 21-30”, in HTML format. For our work, we selected the <em>software requirements specification (</em>396 SRS), <em>user level requirements (</em>48 ULR), <em>use case (</em>74 UC), <em>detailed design (85 DD) </em>and <em>software architecture(15 SArch) </em>artifacts in addition to the answer set of trace links that relate the SRS with other artifacts(4038) and thus relates the DD artifact with other artifacts (1719) . A novel methodological approach to simultaneously extract high quality total RNA and proteins from cortical and trabecular bone
<p>Molecular differences between cortical and trabecular bone, of relevance to understand the pathophysiological bases of bone diseases, can be determined only throughout effective isolation methods for RNA and proteins. Here we present a TRIzol-based method, combining bone pulverization and homogenization, to extract simultaneously total RNA and proteins from human cortical and trabecular bone from the same carrot. RNA integrity and purity were determined as the 260-to-280 nm and 260-to-230 nm absorbance- ratios, and 28S-to-18S rRNA ratio. Protein integrity and quality were evaluated by Comassie Blue staining. RT-qPCR and immunoblotting for bone-specific genes and proteins were performed to verify the suitability of the isolated material in downstream applications. 260-to-280 nm and 260-to-230 nm absorbance ratios were, on average, ≥1.8. Bands on agarose gel were consistent to an intact RNA, with mean 28S-to-18S ratios of1.68±0.35 and 1.88±0.10 for cortical and trabecular bone, respectively. Band patterns after Comassie Blue staining confirmed protein integrity. Successful gene and protein expression analysis, with relevant differences between the two compartments, highlighted the suitability of the material in downstream applications. The method here presented is appropriate and effective for the study of human bone.</p>

Data from: Comparison of methodological quality of positive versus negative comparative studies published in Indian medical journals: a systematic review
Objectives: Published negative studies should have the same rigour of methodological quality as studies with positive findings. However, the methodological quality of negative versus positive studies is not known. The objective was to assess the reported methodological quality of positive versus negative studies published in Indian medical journals. Design: A systematic review (SR) was performed of all comparative studies published in Indian medical journals with a clinical science focus and impact factor >1 between 2011 and 2013. The methodological quality of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool, and the Newcastle-Ottawa scale for observational studies. The results were considered positive if the primary outcome was statistically significant and negative otherwise. When the primary outcome was not specified, we used data on the first outcome reported in the history followed by the results section. Differences in various methodological quality domains between positive versus negative studies were assessed by Fisher's exact test. Results: Seven journals with 259 comparative studies were included in this SR. 24% (63/259) were RCTs, 24% (63/259) cohort studies, and 49% (128/259) case–control studies. 53% (137/259) of studies explicitly reported the primary outcome. Five studies did not report sufficient data to enable us to determine if results were positive or negative. Statistical significance was determined by p value in 78.3% (199/254), CI in 2.8% (7/254), both p value and CI in 11.8% (30/254), and only descriptive in 6.3% (16/254) of studies. The overall methodological quality was poor and no statistically significant differences between reporting of methodological quality were detected between studies with positive versus negative findings. Conclusions: There was no difference in the reported methodological quality of positive versus negative studies. However, the uneven reporting of positive versus negative studies (72% vs 28%) indicates a publication bias in Indian medical journals with an impact factor of >1.
