<p>The uploaded movie is an animation of the Longyearbyen all-sky camera (ASC) full resolution image data from 20:00 UT to 22:00 UT, which is including all ASC snapshots used in Figure 2. This movie file is the same as Movie S1. </p> <p>The uploaded four png files are the Longyearbyen all-sky camera (ASC) full resolution image snapshots, which were used in Figure S3.</p> <p>The numerical ASCII data to make the four ASC full resolution image snapshots are also uploaded; the count number of data detected by the ASC and associated latitude and longitude information in geographical coordinates of the ASC field of view.</p>
Polar UVI Images (Intensity and Boundary) & Space Physical Parameters Joint Data
<p><span>The ultraviolet imager on board the Polar satellite is capable of capturing information about the polar and equatorial boundaries of the auroral oval, the overall morphology of the auroral oval, and the spatial distribution of auroral oval intensity. The intensity of the auroral oval are related to the amount of energy injected from the solar wind and magnetosphere into the polar ionosphere. And the position and size of the auroral oval boundary is also closely linked to changes in the space environment. In order to mitigate the influence of daylight on auroral images, we selected a total of 4215 images of both full, gap and incomplete aurora ovals. We utilized corresponding Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF), solar wind parameters, and geomagnetic index data from the NASA OMNI database to build a jointly dataset consist of the space physical parameters and the intensity and boundaries of the aurora oval.</span></p>
LBHL (~170 nm) UVI images of Polar satellite from December 1996 to January 1997
<p>The UVI aboard the Polar satellite can obtain the ultraviolet auroral intensity distribution in the northern hemisphere. In order to reduce the influence of dayglow on UVI image data, we only used LBHL (~170 nm) UVI images from December 1996 to January 1997, which have full aurora oval (the aurora oval region in the northern hemisphere during this period is in the polar night region, and the aurora image is weakly affected by dayglow and solar light). Each image has a pixel size of 200×228 and a spatial resolution of about 0.04° per pixel (UVI auroral images of Polar satellite taken at apogee have a pixel size of 40×40 km at 100 km above the ground), and the value of each pixel is converted to the value with auroral intensity, the unit is photons/cm<sup>2</sup>/s.</p> <p>These UVI data is save as the mat file of Matlab.</p>
Polar UVI Imagery from CDAWeb
The Ultraviolet Imager (UVI) is a small camera that detected and produced images of the ultraviolet light of the aurora, day and night. Using any of five specially designed filters the UVI camera imaged an eight degree circular field of view. Images are generated once every 37 seconds with a nominal pixel angular resolution of 0.036 degrees.
