Data for: Experimental data about the evacuation of preschool children from nursery schools, Part II: Movement characteristics and behaviour
<p>These datasets contain supplementary material for the article " Experimental data about the evacuation of preschool children from nursery schools, Part II: Movement characteristics and behaviour " accepted to Fire Safety Journal on April 16, 2023 (DOI <a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.firesaf.2023.103797">10.1016/j.firesaf.2023.103797</a>). The article presents experimental data sets on the evacuation movement and behaviour of preschool children observed during 15 evacuation drills in 10 nursery schools in the Czech Republic involving 970 children (3-7 years of age) and 87 staff members. </p> <p>In the presented spreadsheets, raw experimental data on speed-density and flow-density relationships are provided separately for corridors, straight staircases (flights, landings, and entire staircase), and doorways. The movement travel speed ('Speed') is expressed in [m·s<sup>-1</sup>], specific flow ('Flow') in [pers·s<sup>-1</sup>·m<sup>-1</sup>], density variable is expressed in the units of [pers·m<sup>−2</sup>] ('Density1') and [m<sup>−2</sup>·m<sup>−2</sup>] ('Density2'). Observations made for the different age groups of children are distinguished by letters: 'J' – Junior, 'S' – Senior, 'S+' - Senior+, 'M' – Mixed. In speed-density data sets, observations for walking children are denoted as 'W', for running children as 'R' (e.g., 'JW' – Junior walking). Speed-density data points that were calculated by excluding waiting times of children (only in the spreadsheets for corridors and landings of straight staircases) are marked 'M' after age group denotation (e.g., 'SWM-Speed' – modified speed data points for Senior walking children).</p>

EduRa database: room models based on room acoustic measurements in primary and preschools
<p>This database provides five representative rooms in primary schools and preschools for acoustic simulations. A set of (binaural) room impulse responses (RIRs) simulated using an adult and a child artificial head are included for each room.</p> <p>Room acoustic measurements were carried out in Aachen’s primary schools and preschools, where 8 classrooms, 10 playrooms, 3 gyms, 3 multi-purpose rooms and 3 sports rooms were assessed. The dimensions and room acoustic parameters were then clustered to achieve five representative sceneries. Shoebox models with little furniture were created using the average dimension of each cluster, and room acoustic simulations yielding for the average reverberation time of each cluster were done to obtain the (binaural) RIRs.</p>

A potential biomarker of brain activity in ASD: a pilot fNIRS study in female preschoolers
<p>Looking for visual cortical activity as putative brain biomarker: a pilot fNIR study on autistic<br> female preschoolers.</p> <p>We performed an observational prospective monocentric study in a tertiary care University hospital<br> (IRCCS Stella Maris Foundation, Pisa, IT). We recruited 12 females with idiopathic ASD and 13 sex/age-matched control typically developed peers. Established inclusion criteria were: 1) diagnosis of ASD according to<br> the DSM-5 criteria (APA, 2013); 2) age range: between 3 and 6 years; 3) female gender; 4)<br> negative genetic testing for Fragile X and MECP2; 5) negative history of premature birth or<br> neurologic complications possibly related to delivery and 6) non-verbal IQ &gt; 70. ASD diagnosis has<br> been performed by a multidisciplinary team including a senior child psychiatrist, an experienced<br> clinically trained research child psychologist and a speech-language pathologist during 5-7 days of<br> extensive evaluation. Demographic characteristics and clinical features of experimental cohorts are<br> listed in Tables 1 and 2. Clinical measures such as Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule<br> (ADOS) (Lord et al., 2012), Autism Questionnaire (AQ) – children’s version, cognitive and<br> adaptive profile were systematically collected for each subject using internationally validated<br> scales/interviews, such as Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (Wechsler, 2002)<br> and Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales-II –VABS- (Sparrow et al., 2005).<br> All participants reported normal or corrected-to-normal vision.</p>
