Resources to compute TF-IDF weightings on press articles and tweets
<p>These two datasets of features are used in order to compute TF-IDF weightings of documents. It is meant to be used with the <a href="https://pypi.org/project/compute-tf-idf-vectors/">compute-tf-idf-vectors</a> program written in Python and available on Pypi.org.</p> <p>- features_tweets.csv contains features (tokens, lemmas and entities) extracted from Tweets published by press agencies in french, german, spanish and english.</p> <p>- features_news.csv contains features (tokens, lemmas and entities) extracted from articles published by Deutsche Welle in the same languages.</p>
Magnetic resonance spectroscopy data acquired in tinnitus subjects and healthy volunteers using PRESS sequence
<p>This dataset contains raw free induction decay (FID) signals collected during 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) study in 52 individuals with tinnitus (24 with unilateral and 28 with bilateral tinnitus) and 25 healthy volunteers (described in detail in a separate article doi:10.1038/s41598-023-45024-3).</p><p>Data acquisition was performed using 3T Siemens Prisma Fit scanner with a 20-channel receiver head-coil. A single voxel spectroscopy (SVS) PRESS (Point-Resolved Spectroscopy Sequence) sequence was applied for collection of MRS data, using standard Siemens water suppression (water saturation, 50 Hz bandwidth) and no lipid suppression. MRS data was collected from four cubic 3.75 cm3 (1.5 cm x 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm) regions-of-interest in the brain, placed in the left temporal lobe, right temporal lobe, left frontal lobe, and right frontal lobe. The MRS sequence parameters were: TR (time of repetition) = 2000 ms, TE (time of echo) = 40 ms, TA (time of acquisition) = 4 min 26 s, 128 averages with 1024 time points and 1200 Hz bandwidth.</p><p>MRS data is stored in RDA file format, developed by Siemens (see doi:10.1002/nbm.4257, Table 1). Each RDA file contains a text header (which can be viewed using a standard notepad application) and binary FID signal under the header. Data can be imported for analysis using several open-source packages (tested with FID-A doi:10.1002/mrm.26091 and spant doi:10.21105/joss.03646). </p><p>Naming scheme of files is as follows:</p><p><participant ID>_<hemisphere: L or R>_<region: F (frontal) or T (temporal)>.rda</p><p>For example: <i>001_L_F.rda</i> is data from participant 001 collected from a voxel placed in a ROI in the left frontal lobe.</p><p>In order to allow replication of the results from the original article, we also added information about the group of each of the subjects. This information is stored in a TSV file containing two columns: <i>participant_ID</i> and<i> group</i> (C – control, TU – unilateral tinnitus, TB – bilateral tinnitus).</p><p>Aside from replication of our results this dataset may be used e.g. for testing of different MRS data processing pipelines.</p>
Soil biota data from the Pulse-Press Project (P3), McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica (2010-2020)
Climate warming in polar regions is associated with thawing of permafrost, resulting in significant changes in soil hydrology, biogeochemical cycling, and in the activity and composition of soil communities. While ongoing, directional climate warming can elicit such responses over decadal time scales, their manifestation typically occurs as discrete thawing pulses. Indeed, in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica abrupt changes in community structure and biogeochemical cycling in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems following a summer warming event (Jan. 2002) exceeded the influences of a decadal cooling trend in both magnitude and rate of response. Thus, we anticipate that climate-mediated permafrost changes and their associated impacts on soil communities and biogeochemical cycles may occur over seasonal time scales. Our objective is to simulate different frequencies of permafrost thawing events in Antarctic permafrost soils. Since the top horizons of most Antarctic soils are dry permafrost (i.e., there is insufficient water content to generate ice-cement), with ice-cement or massive ice typically below 30 cm, permafrost thawing events are likely to result in subsurface movements of water that may manifest as groundwater seeps down gradient.

Speech Corpus of Interpreted Premier Press Conferences (SCIPPC)
<p>SCIPPC v1.0 is a parallel corpus of consecutive interpreting between Mandarin Chinese and English and vice versa in two Chinese premiers’ press conferences in March 2003–2007 and 2013–2017. The conferences were held after sessions of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. They were moderated by spokespersons of the Congress and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and attended by journalists, who asked the premiers questions.</p> <p>SCIPPC v1.0 includes source speeches by approximately 170 speakers and interpretations by six different staff interpreters of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who worked into their B language. It contains 192,209 tokens (source: 108,296, target: 83,913; Chinese: 112,528, English: 79,681) and 19 h 43 min 5 s of video recordings. It is fully transcribed and aligned at the recording–transcript and source–target transcript levels.</p>

The Pulse-Press Project (P3) experiment was established in 2012 as part of the McMurdo Dry Valleys Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) program to investigate impacts of seasonal wetting on ecosystem structure and functioning by simulating different frequencies of permafrost thawing events in Antarctic permafrost soils. Since the top horizons of most Antarctic soils are dry permafrost (i.e., there is insufficient water content to generate ice-cement), with ice-cement or massive ice typically below 30 cm, permafrost thawing events are likely to result in subsurface movements of water that may manifest as groundwater seeps down gradient. The P3 experiment consists of three permanent plots situated on the south-facing hillslope above Many Glaciers Pond in Taylor Valley. Each plot is 15 m by 7.5 m with a trench on the upslope end that is used for experimental wetting events. The Press plot receives water every austral summer, the Pulse plot receives water every other austral summer, and the Control plot never receives water, serving as the ambient treament. COVID-19 Press Briefings Corpus
<p>The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Press Briefings Corpus is a work in progress to collect and present in a machine readable text dataset of the daily briefings from around the world by government authorities. During the peak of the pandemic, most countries around the world informed their citizens of the status of the pandemic (usually involving an update on the number of infection cases, number of deaths) and other policy-oriented decisions about dealing with the health crisis, such as advice about what to do to reduce the spread of the epidemic.</p> <p>Usually daily briefings did not occur on a Sunday.</p> <p>At the moment the dataset includes:</p> <ul> <li>UK/England: Daily Press Briefings by UK Government between 12 March 2020 - 01 June 2020 (70 briefings in total)</li> <li>Scotland: Daily Press Briefings by Scottish Government between 3 March 2020 - 01 June 2020 (76 briefings in total)</li> <li>Wales: Daily Press Briefings by Welsh Government between 23 March 2020 - 01 June 2020 (56 briefings in total)</li> <li>Northern Ireland: Daily Press Briefings by N. Data supporting research on journalistic production on science by press offices of universities and university centers in Rio Grande do Sul (2016)
<p>These data are part of a final paper called Scientific Journalism in Community Higher Education Institutions in Rio Grande do Sul. The work was developed at the University of Vale do Taquari - Univates, between 2016 and 2017. The data is in Portuguese. The abstract of the paper is available below. Science occupies an important place in today's society. It is what has allowed us to reach our current stages of intellectual development and also to achieve memorable feats as a species. Science is produced, to a large extent, in the academic environment. This monograph focuses its efforts on trying to understand how 15 universities and university centers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, partners in the Consortium of Community Universities of Rio Grande do Sul (Comung), carry out the dissemination of their academic production. It is understood that it is important to disseminate scientific information to the population so that individuals can critically evaluate the actions developed in the field of science. The general objective of this study is to investigate the production of scientific news in higher education institutions linked to Comung, as well as to characterize the relationships between the actors and processes related to the journalistic dissemination of science produced in these same institutions. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the scientific dissemination texts was directed to the news published by the organizations, through an exploratory study that mapped all the production of the press offices between January and August 2016. Subsequently, a qualitative analysis of the discourse of press officers was carried out, after applying a questionnaire. Throughout the investigation, the hypothesis that the institutions disseminate their scientific production was confirmed, but they do so in markedly different ways.
