Crutch - Vikings 3D Prophecy - Episode 12

We worked closely with the Vikings creative team, talking about how to fabricate props and make them look as detailed and realistic. This weeks 3D prophecy item is a metal brace. It was a very difficult prop to execute. The 3D scanner had a lot of problems dealing with the negative space but was able to capture the form and scale so we could touch up the model in studio. The full size of the metal brace is about four feet tall. The metal brace is just one more example of vikings ingenuity, from ship building and navigational tools, to things like skis and hair combs. The brace will not hold a persons weight, do not try to use this brace at home. Bow - Vikings 3D Prophecy - Episode 14

This weeks 3D prop is a bow. The bow was such an amazing prop to see in person because there was so much detail and it was one of the props that inspired us to go for the life size 3D prints this season. We were able to capture the surface detail of the leather and included it in the 3D model. The bow was printed in multiple parts and then assembled, painted and covered in different grades of leather in order to better match the prop from set. Horn - Vikings 3D Prophecy - Episode 19

The Viking horn prop was scanned on set in Ireland and touched up at our studio. The model was printed in pieces on the Makerbot Replicator 2 in white PLA, glued together with a two part epoxy and finished with a white paint. Sword - Vikings 3D Prophecy - Episode 13

We 3D scanned the sword on set with the iSense 3D Scanner. It was a perfect size item to scan and we were able to pickup all of the details in the handle and blade. We designed it at full scale, printed and assembled in post. Swords were very special to vikings culture. They were very expensive and difficult to make but also very sacred, you even brought it with you to valhalla. Raven - Vikings 3D Prophecy - Episode 16

Ravens were a symbol of war in viking culture. It was said that Odin owned ravens and they brought him messages from earth. He was also known as the raven god.   For the second week in a row we got to 3D scan a live animal on set. There are challenges when scanning live objects because they move all the time. But, we got real lucky with the raven because it held still long enough to capture a great 3D Scan. Which we then took into a 3D CAD program and did a little polishing up of the 3D model. We chose to 3D print this in a black photopolymer resin on the  [Form 2 3D printer](http://www.formlabs.com) because of the higher resolution needed for the raven model. Snake - Vikings 3D Prophecy - Episode 15

The weeks 3D Prophecy item is a snake that we 3D scanned live on set in Ireland. With 3D scanning its really important for your object to be stationary. We worked with the animal handler on the Vikings show to help position the snake so it would stay still long enough for a good 3D scan. We were then able to translate all of that data we captured into a beautiful color 3D model of the snake. We then used a full color industrial 3D printing technology called color jet printing (CJP). Color jet printing works like a 2D printer where it drops ink and binder (glue) on top of a surface of powder, one layer at a time. The challenge with the snake was to make it looks as real as possible. The 3D Scanning helped us capture the natural form it also helped us capture the color gradient on the snake. From that information we were able to create a design of a realistic snake. [View the Reveal](https://www.facebook.com/Vikings/videos/1032642433507297/) Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
