Molecular composition of dissolved organic matter in NTL-LTER lakes detected by Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry
The composition of dissolved organic matter (DOM) varies widely in the environment due to distinct sources of the material and subsequent processing. DOM composition drives its reactivity in terms of many processes including photochemical reactions, microbial metabolism, and carbon cycling within water bodies. This study uses ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry via a Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer (FT-ICR MS) to evaluate DOM composition at the molecular level to determine differences in DOM composition among the NTL-LTER lakes. Whole water samples were collected from the surface of each lake near the shore on August 18th and 19th in 2016 in. Ultraviolet-visible spectra were recorded as light absorbance can also give information about DOM composition. Additionally, concentrations of anions, cations, and pH were measured waters because these can all alter DOM reactivity in the environment. Both water chemistry and DOM composition vary widely among the lakes with the bogs displaying the most terrestrial-like signature in DOM and the oligotrophic lakes show more microbial-like or environmentally processed DOM.
Molecular composition of dissolved organic matter from Lake Mendota from June – November 2017, analyzed by Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry
Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is a complex mixture of organic compounds found in all natural waters. Its composition affects its reactivity towards numerous processes. Its composition is a function of both its source (e.g., allochthonous or autochthonous) as well as the extent of environmental processing it has undergone (e.g., chemical or biological degradation). Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) allows for the characterization of dissolved organic matter at the molecular level. The water sample was collected near the NTL-LTER research buoy on Lake Mendota. Formula assignments were made to raw mass to charge ratios detected in the mass spectrum using a custom processing script and resulting in a list of chemical formulas making up the DOM sample.

Energy Harvesting Using a Nonlinear Resonator with Asymmetric Potential Wells
<p><strong>This repository contains</strong> the results of numerical simulations of a nonlinear bistable system for harvesting energy from ambient vibrating mechanical sources. Detailed model tests were carried out on an inertial energy harvesting system consisting of a piezoelectric beam with additional springs attached. The mathematical model was derived using the bond graph approach. Depending on the spring selection, the shape of the bistable potential wells was modified including the removal of wells’ degeneration. Consequently, the broken mirror symmetry between the potential wells led to additional solutions with corresponding voltage responses. The probability of occurrence for different high voltage/large orbit solutions with changes in potential symmetry was investigated. In particular, the periodicity of different solutions with respect to the harmonic excitation period were studied and compared in terms of the voltage output. The results showed that a large orbit period-6 subharmonic solution could be stabilized while some higher subharmonic solutions disappeared with the increasing asymmetry of potential wells. Changes in frequency ranges were also observed for chaotic solutions.</p>

EDEN2020 Ovine Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Tractography Atlas
<p>This dataset has been created to share the first <em>in vivo, </em>population-averaged Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DTI) Ovine Tractography Atlas (OTA), where the course of the main white matter fiber bundles of the ovine brain has been reconstructed. The OTA has been described in the related paper ‘In vivo Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Tractography of the Sheep Brain: An Atlas of the Ovine White Matter Fiber Bundles’ by Pieri <em>et al. </em>(2019) <a href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fvets.2019.00345">https://doi.org/10.3389/fvets.2019.00345</a></p> <p>In the context of the EU’s Horizon EDEN2020 project, in vivo brain MRI protocol for ovine animal models was optimized on a 1.5T scanner. High resolution conventional MRI scans and DTI sequences (b-value = 1,000 s/mm2, 15 directions) were acquired on ten anesthetized sheep <em>ovis aries</em>, to define the diffusion features of normal adult ovine brain tissue. Topography of the ovine cortex was studied, and DTI maps were derived, to perform DTI deterministic tractography reconstruction of the corticospinal tract (CST), corpus callosum (CC), fornix (FX), visual pathway (VP), and occipitofrontal fascicle (OF), bilaterally for all the animals. Binary masks of the tracts were then coregistered and reported in the space of a standard stereotaxic ovine reference system ('ovine_model_05.nii', Nitzsche B. <em>et al.</em>, <em>Front. Neuroanat.</em> 9:69. <a href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fnana.2015.00069">https://doi.org/10.3389/fnana.2015.00069</a>). Finally, these were combined across animals to obtain population probability masks for each tract, representing voxel- by-voxel probability of the presence of the tract in the 10 animals, thus ranged between 0 and 10. </p> <p>Please don't forget to cite this publication when using the Ovine Tractography Atlas: </p> <p>Pieri V., Trovatelli M., Cadioli M., Zani D.D., Brizzola S., Ravasio G., Acocella F., Di Giancamillo M., Malfassi L., Dolera M., Riva M., Bello L., Falini A., & Castellano A. Coherence and indistinguishability of highly pure single photons from non-resonantly and resonantly excited telecom C-band quantum dots
<p>ABSTRACT</p> <p>The role of resonant pumping schemes in improving the photon coherence is investigated on InAs/InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) emitting in the telecom C-band. The linewidths of transitions of multiple exemplary quantum dots are determined under above-band pumping and resonance fluorescence (RF) via Fourier-transform spectroscopy and resonance scans, respectively. The average linewidth is reduced from (9.74 ± 3.3) GHz in the above-band excitation to (3.50 ± 0.39) GHz under RF underlining its superior coherence properties. Furthermore, the feasibility of coherent state preparation with a fidelity of (49.2 ± 5.8) % is demonstrated, constituting a first step toward on-demand generation of coherent, single, telecom C-band photons directly emitted by QDs. Finally, two-photon excitation of the biexciton is investigated as a resonant pumping scheme. A deconvoluted single-photon purity value of 𝑔(2)HBT(0)=0.072 ± 0.104 and a postselected degree of indistinguishability of 𝑉HOM=0.894 ± 0.109 are determined for the biexciton transition. This represents another step in demonstrating the necessary quantum optical properties for prospective applications.</p>

Source code and simulation results for nanoantennas supporting an enhanced Purcell factor due to interfering resonances
<p><strong>Summary</strong></p> <p>Data and source code relate to the article "<a href="https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevResearch.4.023189">Enhanced Purcell factor for nanoantennas supporting interfering resonances</a>" [1], whose subject are the effects of coupled resonances and quasibound states in the continuum on the Purcell factor in dielectric resonant nanoantennas. The provided scripts reproduce the analysis of interfering resonances in a nanodisk coupled to an enclosed emitter and can be easily adapted for further investigations. </p> <p><strong>Structure</strong></p> <p>The cases refer to different aspect ratios of the nanodisk with (a and b) and without (c and d) substrate.
