10-day backward trajectories from ECMWF analysis data along the ship track of the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition in austral summer 2016/2017.

<p><strong>Dataset abstract</strong></p> <p>This dataset contains 10-day backward trajectories along the ship track of the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition from Nov 2016 &ndash; April 2017 calculated with the Lagrangian analysis tool LAGRANTO using the 3D-wind fields from the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) operational analysis data. Annual summer single-day measurements of the thermal environment with a bio-meteorological sensor under trees, shade structures, and sun-exposed areas in the Rio Salado Park in Tempe, AZ, USA

We have measured the thermal environment/bio-meteorological conditions under trees, shade structures, and at sun-exposed locations in the Rio Salado Park in Tempe, AZ, USA annually since 2018 on a clear sky, hot, sunny day in June/July to track shade performance of newly planted trees over time. Measurements were taken with a mobile bio-meteorological weather station, known as MaRTy (Middel & Krayenhoff, 2019; DOI: 10.1016/j.scitotenv.2019.06.085). Since the measurement campaign began, some of the trees have died, were removed, or their environment has changed due to external events such as a bridge collapse (2020-07-29).

A multi-instrument thermal profile of Edison Eastlake, a Phoenix, Arizona, USA neighborhood, on a summer day in 2019

We have measured the thermal environment conditions of the Edison Eastlake neighborhood in Phoenix, AZ on a clear sky, hot, sunny day of June 19, 2019 to look at the neighborhood microclimate before construction began on the renovation of the public housing units in the community. Measurements were taken with a mobile bio-meteorological weather station, known as MaRTy (Middel & Krayenhoff, 2019), car traverses, four pole-mounted temperature/relative humidity sensors, and two rooftop mounted weather stations. Hourly Mean Radiant Temperature Distribution on a summer day (2012-06-27) in the greater Phoenix, Arizona (USA) metropolitan area

This dataset is a collection of 1-m resolution mean radiant temperature (Tmrt) rasters generated using digital surface models and the Solar and longwave environmental irradiance geometry (SOLWEIG) model. The dataset provides hourly Tmrt in the Phoenix, Arizona (USA) metropolitan area for a typical summer day (June 27, 2012, peak air temperature of 41 degrees C) from 07:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs (local time (America/Phoenix)). The dataset can serve as a guide for heat mitigation programs within the area and as input for heat exposure studies.

Ambient nutrients, carbon, and DOM absorbance metrics along with experimental dissolved oxygen decay rates for 5-day incubations of water within the Waccamaw River Watershed, SC, Summer 2020.

Dissolved oxygen (DO) impairment within coastal waters is widespread. Rising temperatures may exacerbate low DO levels by enhancing organic matter (OM) degradation. Here, the temperature sensitivity of OM degradation was investigated as DO decay rates determined during standard five-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) measurements conducted under different incubation temperatures. Sampling was conducted in the Waccamaw River watershed, South Carolina, a blackwater river with extensive forested wetland that also receives drainage from stormwater detention ponds associated with coastal development, thus providing contrasting sources of OM composition. Temperature sensitivities were measured as Q10 temperature coefficients, which define how DO decay rates change with 10 degrees of warming. The average Q10 value for the wetland sites (2.14 ± 0.41) was significantly greater (p = 0.004) than those measured in either the river (1.49 ± 0.36) or stormwater ponds (1.41 ± 0.21). Furthermore, using Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change intermediate-to-very high temperature estimates for 2100 of +2.7 – 4.4 °C, average predicted increases in DO decay rates for wetlands (~22-39 %) are more than double the River (~11-18 %) and stormwater pond rates (~9-16 %). Our findings for inland, coastal waters agree with previous results for soils, suggesting that temperature sensitivities are variable across sites and increase with more complex, lower quality OM. Future modeling scenarios of DO utilization must therefore consider the influence of OM heterogeneity and the temperature sensitivity response of OM degradation across sources and region to better predict how climate change may impact oxygen impairment in aquatic ecosystems.

Direct and indirect effects of increased bedload on algal and detrital-based stream food webs at the Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory from 1997 to 1999: Tile/ sediment addition experiment, Summer 1997; Chlorophyll, AFDM, inorganics (days 5-40)

Anthropogenic sedimentation poses a significant threat to stream ecosystems throughout the world. Increases in bedload (sediment transported and deposited on the stream bottom) can be especially detrimental for benthic communities. To examine how increased bedload directly and indirectly affects stream communities, we simultaneously manipulated sediment and top-down effects of macroconsumers (fishes and crayfish) in situ in two factorial experiments, one using tiles and one using leaf packs as sampling substrates. Bedload was increased by adding small amounts of sediment (2.5 x normal levels) to localized areas (0.25 m2) of an otherwise unimpacted stream. This increase in bedload had direct effects on basal resources in both the tile and leaf pack experiments. In the tile experiment algal composition was altered by sediment addition, while in the leaf pack experiment fungal biomass declined with sediment.
