Molecular simulations of nanoscale two-phase Couette flow of a water-hexane system on a hydrophobic substrate

This dataset contains the output of Molecular Dynamics simulations (MD) of two-phase Couette flow of water/hexane biphasic systems, in terms of density, velocity and temperature fields. Instructions on how to read and analyze the output files in the
.tar.gz
archives can be found in these previously-published datasets: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8077915, https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6541983

The run output files are labeled using the following pattern:
hex-ca<capillary-number>-q<partial-charge>.tar.gz
. It is possible to obtain the wall speed/contact line speed from the capillary number using the following formula:
u_w = U_0*<capillary-number>
, with
U_0 = 37.246 m/s
.

To reproduce the runs it is necessary to use a specific version of Gromacs that allows for a special algorithm of pressure scaling with position restraints. The code can be obtained by cloning https://github.com/MicPellegrino/gromacs-flow-field.git, and switching to the
flow-field-grid-visco-coms-deform
branch.

The folder
conf-wat-hex.zip
contains the configuration files to reproduce MD simulations. How flexible, slit and rigid barriers mitigate two-phase geophysical mass flows: a numerical appraisal

The supplementary videos SV1 and SV2 (presented in Figures 4 and 5) show geophysical flows impacting flexible, slit, and rigid barriers via pile-up mode and runup mode, respectively.

The measurement data used for comparison in Figure 7 from 14 centrifuge tests with bouldery and the boulder-debris mixture flows (Song et al., 2018b, 2019), and dry granular flow against open-type dams (Choi et al., 2020) were published open access in their articles.

The unique dataset, comprising normalized data obtained from analytical models (Li et al., 2021; Song et al., 2021a), empirical relations (Cui et al., 2015), experiments (Armanini et al., 2020; Choi et al., 2020; Cui et al., 2015; Hu et al., 2020; Song et al., 2021a, 2021b; Tiberghien et al., 2007; Vicari et al., 2021), field events (Hübl et al., 2009), and practical design values (Armanini, 1997; Hungr et al., 1984; Kwan & Cheung, 2012; Wendeler, 2016), is plotted in Figure 10 for comparison.

All these articles can be found in the PDF file entitled “References in Figures 7 and 10”.

Dual-modal imaging of two-phase flows with electromagnetic flow tomography and electrical tomography -- experimental evaluation of the state estimation approach

The supplementary files included are associated with our experimental research on two-phase flow estimation. This study experimentally investigates the feasibility of a state estimation approach for dynamic image reconstruction in dual-modal tomography of two-phase oil-water flows using electromagnetic flow tomography (EMFT) and electrical tomography (ET). By approximating the process with a convection-diffusion model, the extended Kalman filter and fixed-interval Kalman smoother are applied to reconstruct temporally evolving velocity and phase fraction distributions. The results demonstrate that the Kalman smoother-based reconstructions, along with uncertainty estimates, outperform conventional methods and provide feasible volumetric flow rate estimates for oil and water phases in a laboratory setup.
