A large EEG database with users' profile information for motor imagery Brain-Computer Interface research
<p><em><strong>Context </strong></em>: <br> We share a large database containing electroencephalographic signals from 87 human participants, with more than 20,800 trials in total representing about 70 hours of recording. It was collected during brain-computer interface (BCI) experiments and organized into 3 datasets (A, B, and C) that were all recorded following the same protocol: right and left hand motor imagery (MI) tasks during one single day session.<br> It includes the performance of the associated BCI users, detailed information about the demographics, personality and cognitive user’s profile, and the experimental instructions and codes (executed in the open-source platform OpenViBE).<br> Such database could prove useful for various studies, including but not limited to: 1) studying the relationships between BCI users' profiles and their BCI performances, 2) studying how EEG signals properties varies for different users' profiles and MI tasks, 3) using the large number of participants to design cross-user BCI machine learning algorithms or 4) incorporating users' profile information into the design of EEG signal classification algorithms.<br> <br> Sixty participants (Dataset A) performed the first experiment, designed in order to investigated the impact of experimenters' and users' gender on MI-BCI user training outcomes, i.e., users performance and experience, (Pillette & al). Twenty one participants (Dataset B) performed the second one, designed to examined the relationship between users' online performance (i.e., classification accuracy) and the characteristics of the chosen user-specific Most Discriminant Frequency Band (MDFB) (Benaroch & al). The only difference between the two experiments lies in the algorithm used to select the MDFB. Dataset C contains 6 additional participants who completed one of the two experiments described above. Physiological signals were measured using a g.USBAmp (g.tec, Austria), sampled at 512 Hz, and processed online using OpenViBE 2.1.0 (Dataset A) & OpenVIBE 2.2.0 (Dataset B). For Dataset C, participants C83 and C85 were collected with OpenViBE 2.1.0 and the remaining 4 participants with OpenViBE 2.2.0. Experiments were recorded at Inria Bordeaux sud-ouest, France.</p> <p><em><strong>Duration</strong> </em>: Each participant's folder is composed of approximately 48 minutes EEG recording. <p>he dataset is the collection of the results of the Interactive Profiling Narrative that was developed as a part of the project Listener Aware Content Detoxification.<br>It contains the toxicity tolerance scores of each individual user to different categories.<br>High scores indicate that the user is extremely sensitive to the particular category where as low scores indicate that the user isn't that triggered by the category.Medium scores show moderate tolerance.</p> <p>Columns:<br>1.UserId: The unique id given to each user (helps preserve anonymity).<br>2.Race: The user's toxicity tolerance to the category race. Data from: Characterising bird-keeping user-groups on Java reveals distinct behaviours, profiles and potential for change
<p>1. Over 70 million cage-birds are kept across 12 million households on the island of Java, Indonesia, fuelling serious concerns for the health of regional wild bird populations. Understanding the behaviours, preferences and demographic profiles of bird-keepers will guide attempts to reduce demand for wild birds and hence the impact of trade on wild populations and their host ecosystems.</p> <p>2. We profile three songbird-keeping user-groups based on interviews of nearly one thousand people across Java: Hobbyists, who own birds primarily as pets; Contestants, who own birds to enter in singing contests; and Breeders, who own birds to breed and train for resale or as a pastime.</p> <p>3. User-groups diverged in their bird-keeping habits and preferences. Hobbyists tended to own small numbers of inexpensive and typically native birds, while contestants and breeders owned larger numbers of often valuable birds. Hobbyists were far less likely to consider origin when buying a bird, owned a larger proportion of both potentially wild-caught and globally threatened birds, but showed no preference for any taxon. By contrast, owning relatively large numbers of lovebirds (Agapornis spp.) and Zebra Doves (Geopelia striata) were key characteristics of contestants, while breeders owned the largest number of birds and species, in particular White-rumped Shamas (Kittacincla malabarica). Within a two-year period, user-group membership was fluid, with much transitioning between non-bird ownership and hobbyists, recruitment of non-bird owners to contestants, and movement both in and out of the breeder group.</p> <p>4. Our study provides behavioural change efforts with demographic and geographic profiles to target bird-keepers, who tended to be more affluent, urban and live in the eastern provinces. Among bird-keepers, hobbyists tended to be middle-aged and live in the western provinces, contestants were younger urban bird-keepers employed in business, and breeders were commoner in the eastern provinces, reflecting the cultural importance of bird-keeping among the Javanese.</p> <p>5. Efforts to increase the sustainability of bird-keeping in Java should focus on emphasising the importance of captive-bred birds, in particular to hobbyists, the largest user-group, whose bird-keeping behaviour poses the biggest threat to wild bird populations, whilst also incentivising legitimate breeding enterprises among contestants and breeders.</p>

Data from: Hepatitis B virus sero-profiles and genotypes in HIV-1 infected and uninfected injection and non-injection drug users from coastal Kenya
Background: Information about HBV sero-markers, infection stages and genotypes in HIV-1 infected and uninfected injection and non-injection drug users (IDUs) in Kenya remains elusive. Methods: A cross-sectional study examining HBV sero-marker, infection stages and genotypes was conducted among HIV-1 infected and uninfected, respectively, IDUs (n = 157 and n = 214) and non-IDUs (n = 139 and n = 48), and HIV-1 uninfected non-drug using controls (n = 194) from coastal, Kenya. HBV sero-marker and infection stages were based on HBV 5-panel rapid test plasma sero-reactivity. DNA was extracted from acute and chronic plasma samples and genotypes established by nested-PCR and direct sequencing. Results: HBsAg positivity was higher in HIV-1 infected IDUs (9.6 %) relative to HIV-1 uninfected IDUs (2.3 %), HIV-1 infected non-IDUs (3.6 %), HIV-1 uninfected non-IDUs (0.0 %) and non-drug users (2.6 %; P = 0.002). Contrastingly, HBsAb positivity was higher in HIV-1 uninfected IDUs (14.6 %) and non-IDUs (16.8) in comparison to HIV-1 infected IDUs (8.3 %), and non-IDUs (8.6 %), and non-drug users (8.2 %; P = 0.023). HBcAb positivity was higher in HIV-1 infected IDUs (10.2 %) compared to HIV-1 uninfected IDUs (3.3 %), HIV-1 infected non-IDUs (6.5 %), HIV-1 uninfected non-IDUs (2.1 %) and non-drug users (4.6 %; P = 0.038). Acute (5.7 %, 1.4 %, 0.0 %, 0.0 % and 1.5 %) and chronic (5.1 %, 0.9 %, 3.6 %, 0.0 % and 1.5 %) stages were higher in HIV-1 infected IDUs, compared to HIV-1 uninfected IDUs, HIV-1 infected and uninfected non-IDUs and non-drug users, respectively. However, vaccine type response stage was higher in HIV-1 uninfected IDUs (15.4 %) relative to HIV-1 infected IDUs (6.4 %), and HIV-1 infected (6.5 %), and uninfected (10.4 %) non-IDUs, and non-drug users (5.7 %; P = 0.003). Higher resolved infection rates were also recorded in HIV-1 uninfected IDUs (11.2 %) compared to HIV-1 infected IDUs (8.3 %), and HIV-1 infected (7.2 %), uninfected (6.3 %) non-IDUs, and non-drug users (6.7 %; P = 0.479), respectively. Only A1 genotype showing minimal diversity was detected among the study participants. Conclusion: HBV sero-markers and infection staging are valuable in diagnosis and genotyping of HBV infections. Among IDUs, higher HBsAg and HBcAb positivity in HIV-1 infected and higher HBsAb positivity in HIV-1 negative IDUs suggests frequent exposure. Additionally, HBV genotype A is the dominant circulating genotype in both high and low risk populations of Kenya.
