HD-SIM-RBV: a synthetic dataset with model-based simulations of blood volume changes during hemodialysis

<p>The HD-SIM-RBV dataset is a synthetic (model-based) dataset generated to enable the study of blood volume (BV) or relative blood volume (RBV) changes during hemodialysis (HD).</p> <p>The dataset includes the profiles of BV changes during a standard 4-hour HD session simulated using a lumped-parameter, physiologically-based model of the cardiovascular system and the whole-body water and solute kinetics in 5,000 virtual patients with randomly adjusted values of 90 physiological parameters.</p> <p>For each of the 90 selected parameters, a random value was drawn from a normal distribution with the mean equal to the baseline value used originally in the model (with a few exceptions) and the standard deviation (SD) assumed at the level of 10%, 20%, or 40% of the baseline value, depending on the nature of the given parameter and the likelihood of its variation in the population (for some parameters, SD was set below 10% - see Parameters.xlsx). Only values within &plusmn;2SD from the mean were accepted. &nbsp;</p> <p>Ultrafiltration was set randomly within &plusmn;1 L from the assigned fluid overload. &nbsp;All other parameters as well as dialysis settings were kept constant for all virtual patients (at the levels used in our previous work - see the references below).</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>When using the dataset, please cite the associated conference paper:</p> <p>Pstras L, Waniewski J. <p>This dataset refers to:</p> <p><em>Area, volume and ELA changes of West Greenland local glaciers and ice caps over the last 35 years</em><br><em>Securo Andrea, Del Gobbo Costanza, Citterio Michele, Machguth Horst, Marcer Marco, Korsgaard Niels J., Colucci Renato R.</em></p> <p>This study analyses the cumulative area, ice mass and Equilibrium Line Altitude changes that occurred on more than 4000 glaciers and ice caps in West Greenland (outside of the Greenland Ice Sheet) from 1985 to 2020, using remotely sensed data and including glaciers smaller than 1 km2 in the calculations.</p> <p>This dataset contains:</p> <ol> <li><strong>1_Area_1985_2020.csv</strong> - Comma Separated Value file with the following data for all Glaciers and ice caps involved in the study:<br>Area Loss from 1985 to 2020 (km2), Total Area of 1985 (km2), Relative Area Loss from 1985 to 2020 (%), Longitude, Latitude</li> <li><strong>2_Area_Loss_1985_2020.gpkg</strong> - Geopackage file contanining the same information as (1.) but including the centroids positions. The Burden of Reproduction in Lizards: Changes in Respiratory Physiology Associated with Reduced Lung Volume at the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge (2007-2008)

Previous morphological work on lizards suggests that the volume of growing eggs may result in a significant decrease in lung volume during gravidity. Iguanid lizard lungs are located within continuous thoracic and abdominal cavities and are highly distensible. Because of their distensible nature and lack of a diaphragm, both naturally occurring and introduced structures within the abdominal and thoracic cavities (i.e. organs, food, eggs) compress them and potentially reduce available lung volume for gas exchange. During reproduction, this decrease comes at a time of increased energetic demands, due to the cost of provisioning eggs and the physical burden of transporting the extra mass before laying. This means that females must increase the oxygen/carbon dioxide exchange with effectively smaller lung capacity than when they are not reproductive. Therefore, the way species compensate for this decrease affects performance, and ultimately the survival of individuals and their offspring.

<p>The three supplementary files include one figure displaying the results of X-ray microtomography (File S1), two compilations of figures dealing with the volume change measurement (Files S2 and S3) and a table with the measured compositions in major and trace elements (Table S1).</p> <p>File S1 (Malvoisin_ds01.pdf). The grains segmented by selecting this attenuation are displayed with a circle with a size proportional to the radius of a sphere of equivalent volume. <p>This data file contains the on changes in blue mussel (<em>Mytilus edulis</em>) length, width, thickness, weight and displacement volume from the start to the end of a&nbsp;13 week study in 2022. The mussels were kept in the NIVA mesocosm facility in the Oslofjord, three replicates in each of 12 basins. Half of the basins had high wave level, half had low wave level. The length of the mussels were measuerd weekly for 13 weeks. Als&aring; the % change from one week to the next is included in the dataset.&nbsp;</p>
