Mataws annotated Web service collection

<p><strong>Description. </strong>The Mataws annotated Web service collection is a set of WS descriptions under the WSDL and OWL-S formats. It contains 816 descriptions, which were originally only syntactically described, and were annotated using our tool Mataws. Consequently, each description appears twice (once in a syntactical version, and once in a semantic version). The descriptions are also classified thematically.</p> <p>Our collection is based primarily on the FullDataset collection of the Assam project (<a href="http://www.andreas-hess.info/projects/annotator/">http://www.andreas-hess.info/projects/annotator/</a>), which we extended using WS descriptions found on the web. These individual files were classified thematically with the rest of the WSDL files, and used to assess the quality of annotation of Mataws.</p> <p><strong>Source code. </strong>The source code of our tool Mataws is available online: <a href="https://github.com/CompNet/mataws">https://github.com/CompNet/mataws</a></p> <p><strong>License.&nbsp;</strong>The annotated descriptions are shared under a Creative Commons 0 license. <p>Test datasets and result files for review on web based collation tools <a href="http://www.juxtacommons.org/"><em>Juxta Web Service</em></a>, <a href="https://lera.uzi.uni-halle.de/"><em>LERA</em></a>, and <a href="http://variance-viewer.informatik.uni-wuerzburg.de/Variance-Viewer/"><em>Variance Viewer</em></a> (see <a href="https://ride.i-d-e.de">RIDE</a> issue on Tools and Environments for Digital Scholarly Editing).</p> <p>The first dataset (lorem-*) are constructed dummy texts in TEI, based on filler texts. They cover some basic cases of textual variance.</p> <p>The second dataset (hamlet-*) is based on a TEI encoded version of Shakespeare&#39;s <em>Hamlet</em>, taken from <a href="http://quartos.org">The Shakespeare Quartos Archive</a> (CC BY-NC 2.0), with a simplified baseline encoding.</p> <p>The result files (result-*) were produced with the web based collation tools mentioned above. TimeSide API as an audio processing web service

<p>Audio descriptors can help to analyze, classify and compare sounds by their own characteristics. For large datasets,it is often needed to store the results of the analyses in order to keep everything sustainable and comparable, especially in machine learning usecases. This demo will show how to use the TimeSide REST API as a remote service to process descriptors in order to embed the results in any web application. The new version of the TimeSide player will be presented as a general example of using the dedicated javascript SDK to produce new kinds of applications involving visualization and collaborative annotation.</p>

Research Data Services in US Higher Education: A Web-Based Inventory - Raw Data

<p>This dataset represents an inventory of research data services at 120 US colleges and universities. The data was collected using a systematic web content analysis process in late 2019. This dataset underlies the following report: Jane Radecki and Rebecca Springer, &quot;Research Data Services in US Higher Education: A Web-Based Inventory,&quot; Ithaka S+R, Nov. 2020,&nbsp;<a href="https://sr.ithaka.org/publications/research-data-services-in-us-higher-education/">https://doi.org/10.18665/sr.314397</a>.</p> <p>We defined research data services as any concrete, programmatic offering intended to support researchers (including faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students) in working with data, and identified services within the following campus units: library, IT department/research computing, independent research centers and facilities, academic departments, medical school, business school, and other professional schools. We also recorded whether the institution offered local high performance computing facilities. Data from: Do differences in food web structure between organic and conventional farms affect the ecosystem service of pest control?

While many studies have demonstrated that organic farms support greater levels of biodiversity, it is not known whether this translates into better provision of ecosystem services. Here we use a food-web approach to analyse the community structure and function at the whole-farm scale. Quantitative food webs from 10 replicate pairs of organic and conventional farms showed that organic farms have significantly more species at three trophic levels (plant, herbivore and parasitoid) and significantly different network structure. Herbivores on organic farms were attacked by more parasitoid species on organic farms than on conventional farms. However, differences in network structure did not translate into differences in robustness to simulated species loss and we found no difference in percentage parasitism (natural pest control) across a variety of host species. Furthermore, a manipulative field experiment demonstrated that the higher species richness of parasitoids on the organic farms did not increase mortality of a novel herbivore used to bioassay ecosystem service. The explanation for these differences is likely to include inherent differences in management strategies and landscape structure between the two farming systems.

Data from: Analysis and visualization of H7 influenza using genomic, evolutionary and geographic information in a modular web service

We have reported previously on use of a web-based application, Supramap (http://supramap.org) for the study of biogeographic, genotypic, and phenotypic evolution. Using Supramap we have developed maps of the spread of drug-resistant influenza and host shifts in H1N1 and H5N1 influenza and coronaviruses such as SARS. Here we report on another zoonotic pathogen, H7 influenza, and provide an update on the implementation of Supramap as a web service. We find that the emergence of pathogenic strains of H7 is labile with many transitions from high to low pathogenicity, and from low to high pathogenicity. We use Supramap to put these events in a temporal and geospatial context. We identify several lineages of H7 influenza with biomarkers of high pathogenicity in regions that have not been reported in the scientific literature. The original implementation of Supramap was built with tightly coupled client and server software. Now we have decoupled the components to provide a modular web service for POY (http://poyws.org) that can be consumed by a data provider to create a novel application. To demonstrate the web service, we have produced an application, Geogenes (http://geogenes.org). Unlike in Supramap, in which the user is required to create and upload data files, in Geogenes the user works from a graphical interface to query an underlying dataset. Geogenes demonstrates how the web service can provide underlying processing for any sequence and metadata database.

Quality of Web Service (QWS) Dataset

<p>The QWS Dataset includes a set of 2,507 web services and their&nbsp;<a href="https://qwsdata.github.io/qws/#Quality_of_Web_Service_%28QWS%29_">Quality of Web Service (QWS)</a>&nbsp;measurements that were conducted during the year of 2008 using our web Service Broker (WSB) framework. Each row in this dataset represents a Web service and its corresponding nine QWS measurements (separated by commas). The first nine elements are QWS metrics that were measured using multiple Web service benchmark tools over a six-day period. The QWS values represent averages of the measurements collected during that period. The last two parameters represent the service name and reference to the WSDL document.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;The QWS dataset is available free of charge for educational and non-commercial&nbsp;<br> &nbsp;purposes. Using a Web Map Service to map Little Ice Age glacier extents at regional scales

<p>Extending the record of glacier area changes into the past improves our understanding of climate change impacts. Although analogue maps showing historic glacier extents are abundant, digital outlines from before the satellite era are sparse as the digitisation of moraines and trimlines on freely available satellite images is challenging. With the now available very high-resolution images provided by Web Map Services (WMS), new doors are open for the precise digitisation. Here, we used the ESRI WMS to digitise Little Ice Age (LIA) glacier extents and present area changes since the LIA in four selected regions along with a detailed uncertainty analysis. We used modern glacier outlines as a starting point and additionally consulted Sentinel-2 images, the ArcticDEM and historic maps for interpretation. Dating records from the literature allowed calculating area change rates. In total, 493 LIA glaciers (4640 km2, now 891 ice bodies with 3590 km2) were digitised, yielding relative area changes of &minus;20% (&minus;0.14% a&minus;1), &minus;15% (&minus;0.10% a&minus;1), &minus;26% (&minus;0.16% a&minus;1) and &minus;61% (&minus;0.19% a&minus;1) for Alaska, Baffin Island, Novaya Zemlya and the tropics, respectively. The ESRI WMS images are a great asset to precisely map moraines and trimlines, but information about the timing of the related extents requires further sources.</p>
