How does the weekend catch-up sleep ratio affect the health and lifestyle of Korean adults? An age- and sex- matched study
<p>The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between various levels of physical activity, self-perception, cardiometabolic risk factors, and weekend catch-up sleep ratio (CSR). Using raw data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2018 – 2021, all participants were divided into three groups (< 1.0, 1.0 ≤ CSR < 1.5, or ≥ 1.5) by CSR, which is the value calculated by dividing weekend sleep time by weekday sleep time. After matching age and sex, 2,484 Korean adults were selected as study participants. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, ANOVA, and multinomial logistic regression analysis were performed to analyze the data. The results showed a significant association between weekend CSR and socioeconomic status, physical activity, self-perception levels, and cardiometabolic risk factors. Specifically, compared to the reference group (1 ≤ CSR < 1.5), those with a CSR < 1 were 2.42 times more likely to live in a single-family house (OR = 2.42, 95% CI = 1.77 – 3.32) and 1.71 times more likely to engage in vigorous physical activity meeting WHO guidelines (OR = 1.71, 95% CI = 1.20 – 2.46). They were also 1.33 times more likely to perceive themselves as 'obese' (OR = 1.33, 95% CI = 1.00 – 1.76). Conversely, those in the CSR ≥ 1.5 group were 3.93 times more likely to be 'pink-collar' workers (OR = 3.93, 95% CI = 2.70 – 5.71), 1.72 times more likely to perceive their stress levels as 'quite' (OR = 1.72, 95% CI = 1.20 – 2.47), and 1.87 times more likely to have diabetes (OR = 1.87, 95% CI = 0.97 – 3.60). Alterations in CSR could indicate changes in physical activity levels, sedentary behavior duration, and other health indicators, ultimately influencing overall well-being. Therefore, a comprehensive healthcare approach incorporating CSR considerations is increasingly essential.</p>

Data from: Variation in age ratio of midcontinent greater white-fronted geese during fall migration
Annual productivity is an important parameter for the management of waterfowl populations. Fall age ratio (juveniles:total birds) is an index of productivity of the preceding breeding season. However, differences in the timing of migration between family groups and nonbreeding birds may bias age-ratio estimates. We examined temporal variation in age ratios of midcontinent greater white-fronted geese Anser albifrons frontalis from interior and northwestern Alaska at a northern autumn staging area near Delta Junction, Alaska. Photographic sampling conducted near Delta Junction resulted in an annual age ratio of 0.388 ± 0.004 (mean ± SE) in 2010 and 0.390 ± 0.001 in 2011. Our study demonstrated temporal variation in age ratios over the duration of the migration period during August and September. We recommend that sampling be conducted for 3-d periods at the beginning, middle, and end of the migration period to account for temporal variation in migration of family groups.

ATom: Age of Air, ArN2 Ratio, and Trace Gases in Stratospheric Samples, 2009-2018
This dataset provides calculated age of air (AoA) and the argon/nitrogen (Ar/N2) ratio (per meg) from stratospheric flask samples and simultaneous high-frequency measurements of nitrous oxide (N2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), methane (CH4), and carbon monoxide (CO) compiled from three airborne projects. The trace gases were used to identify 235 flask samples with stratospheric influence collected by the Medusa Whole Air Sampler and to calculate AoA using a new N2O-AoA relationship developed using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm. The data span a wide range of latitudes poleward of 40 degrees in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and cover the period 2009-01-10 to 2018-05-21.

<p>Harvest management quotas for fishers (<i>Pekania pennanti</i>) in some jurisdictions are estimated from the previous year's harvest, and stem from the hypothesis that age ratios in the harvest are largely influenced by 'top-down' trapping pressure. The influence of 'bottom-up' food supply on fisher harvest age ratios might be underappreciated, which could result in a misallocation of quotas in management planning. We assessed a variety of data sources to test the influence of bottom-up processes on fisher populations in Ontario, Canada. We found evidence that bottom-up trophic effects influence the harvested fisher age structure in some regions of Ontario. Evidence also suggests that harvest pressure had little top-down influence on age ratios over the course of our study, and that basing management strategies on this assumption may lead to unintentional overharvest in years of low productivity. We suggest several trophic linkages with potential to facilitate fisher management, including connections among berry and seed crops, small mammals, and Northern saw-whet owls (<i>Aegolius acadicus</i>).</p>
