Perceived academic stress, hair and saliva cortisol concentrations, and their relationship with anthropometric measures associated with obesity in first-year medical students.

Cortisol plays an important role between stress, weight gain, and the development of obesity. Therefore, we investigated the association between stress, eating behavior, cortisol, and anthropometric measures related to obesity in a sample of medical students. We determined cortisol concentrations by ELISA and related it to self-reported stress, eating behavior, and anthropometric measurements throughout the academic period. We report an increase in hair cortisol, higher self-reported stress scores, and BMI mainly in females. Finally, we found evidence of positive associations between capillary cortisol and BMI. Also, eating behavior is affected by perceived stress mainly in females.

In this database, we provide weight variables, BMI, psychometric tests, and hormonal determinations.

You can see two sheets in the Excel file. Sheet 1 includes the raw data and sheet 2 includes a description of each variable, as well as the bibliography (article or book) where each survey or protocol was obtained.

In addition, the data specify the units of the hormonal variables, as well as the units of the anthropometric variables. If you have questions about the interpretation of psychometric test scores, you can contact our team for further details.

Data for "Associations between 3D surface scanner derived anthropometric measurements and body composition in a cross-sectional study"

Datasets underlying the analysis of the paper: "Associations between 3D surface scanner derived anthropometric measurements and body composition in a cross-sectional study"

This upload includes the following:

data_study.csv : contains socio-demographic, health- and lifestyle factors, and body scan variables of each participant

healthscore.csv : contains the "healthy score" from the food frequency questions calculated from from five food categories: fruits, vegetables, wholegrain products, meat, and sweet/salty snacks. For each category the officially recommended minimum or maximum amount of weekly intake was used as the cut-off value and a point was assigned if the recommendation was met. A score from 0 to 5 was built to reflect the overall healthiness of the diet.

MLA and MJA Anthropometric angular measurements on the foot

DATASET DESCRIPTION

These datasets contain a collection of dynamic measurements of the Medial Longitudinal Arch (MLA) angle and the Metatarsophalangeal Joint Angle (MJA), as well as coordinates of the centroid pixel of the landmarks placed on anthropometric points of the foot. The measurements are performed using the proposed system and Kinovea software during the cycle gait in eight subjects with an average age of 33 years and size foot of 8 inches.

The dataset "Anthropometric Vision System" contains 1002 measurements using the proposed system based on the dot product method and landmark detection algorithm, while the dataset "Kinovea" has 1002 measurements using the Kinovea software. In addition, the videos Subject1.mp4 to Subject8.mp4 are utilized to generate datasets through the Anthropometric Vision System and Kinovea software. The columns of the 'Anthropometric Vision System' and 'Kinovea' datasets are derived from these videos.

A demonstration of the anthropometric angular measurements using both systems is shown in
the following videos.

Anthropometric Vision System
https://youtu.be/dmCLftekLLw

Kinovea
https://youtu.be/P86oO90Q8bE

COLUMNS ACRONYMS

Subject: Subjects 1 - 8
MJA: Metatarsophalangeal Joint Angle (degrees)
MLA: Medial Longitudinal Arch (degrees)
L1X: X Coordinates of the centroid pixel for the landmark positioned on the proximal interphalangeal joint
L1Y: Y Coordinates of the centroid pixel for the landmark positioned on the proximal interphalangeal joint
L2X: X Coordinates of the centroid pixel for the landmark positioned on the sesamoid
L2Y: Y Coordinates of the centroid pixel for the landmark positioned on the sesamoid
L3X: X Coordinates of the centroid pixel for the landmark positioned on the navicular tuberosity
L3Y: Y Coordinates of the centroid pixel for the landmark positioned on the navicular tuberosity
L4X: X Coordinates of the centroid pixel for the landmark positioned on the posterior calcaneus
L4Y: Y Coordinates of the centroid pixel for the landmark positioned on the posterior calcaneus

IF YOU USE THIS DATASET, PLEASE CITE OUR ARTICLE

Title: "Anthropometric Vision System for measuring the Windlass mechanism during the gait cycle,"
Journal: Biomedical Signal Processing and Control
Volume: 103
Year: 2025,
ISSN: 1746-8094,
DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bspc.2024.107405

Adult male baseball pitchers anthropometric measurements and pitching velocity in tryout settings

In this study, we adopted field tests executed using affordable equipment in a tryout event for a professional baseball team in Taiwan, 2019. We have only half day to test 64 players, and the result of measurement are used to develop a model for predicting pitching velocity of amateur adult pitchers (age: 23.9 ± 2.8 years; height: 180.3 ± 5.9 cm; weight: 81.4 ± 10.9 kg) . The measurements and tests in tryout settings should be easy to implement, take short time, do not need high skill levels, and correlate to the pitching velocity. The outcome measures included maximum external shoulder rotation, maximum internal shoulder rotation, countermovement jump (CMJ) height, 20-kg loaded CMJ height, 30-m sprint time, height, age, and weight tests.
