New datasets obtained from experimental installations with centralized control

<p>The dataset contains the data that local controller 1 (LC1) received from local controller 2 (LC2) during normal system operation. The system was created and it is located in the Laboratory for Manufacturing Automation at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade. The system is based on a smart sensor (electromagnetic linear encoder with local controller) and a smart actuator (rodless pneumatic cylinder with electro-pneumatic pressure regulator and local controller), and the main goal is to achieve the desired position of the piston on the pneumatic cylinder. The dataset includes 7 signals that represent a combination of different piston trajectories. Each signal was recorded during the 200 minutes of piston movement along a defined trajectory, where the length of each signal is 400,000 samples. Table 2&nbsp;shows the list of collected signals, whereas a detailed description of the system can be found in [1].</p> <p>This dataset was developed with the support of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, Grant No. 6523109, AI - MISSION4.0, 2020-2022.</p>

Control of arthropod abundance, richness, and composition in the central Arizona-Phoenix metropolitan area

There is a demand for mechanistic studies to explore underlying drivers behind observed patterns of biodiversity in urban areas. We describe a two-year field experiment in which we manipulated bottom-up (resource availability) and top-down (bird predation) forces on arthropod communities associated with a native plant, Encelia farinosa, across three landuse types urban, desert remnant, and outlying natural desert in the Phoenix metropolitan area, Arizona, USA. We monitored the trophic structure, richness, and similarity of the arthropod communities on these manipulated plants over a two-year period. We predicted that:(1) increased water resources increase plant productivity, (2) increased productivity increases arthropod abundances, and (3) in the urban habitat, top-down forces are greater than in other habitats and limit arthropod abundances. We also predicted that urban remnant habitats are more similar to urban habitats in terms of arthropod richness and composition. Strong interannual differences due to an unusual cold and dry winter in the first year suppressed plant growth in all but urban habitats, and arthropod abundances in all habitats were severely reduced. In the following year, arthropod abundances in desert and remnant habitats were higher than in urban habitats. Water had positive effects on plant growth and arthropod abundance, but these water effects emerged through complex interactions with habitat type and the presence/absence of cages used to reduce bird predation. Plants grew larger in urban habitats, and phenology also differed between urban and desert habitats. The results from caging suggest that bird predation may not be as important in cities as previously thought, and that arthropods may retard plant growth. As expected, desert communities are strongly bottom-up regulated, but, contrary to predictions, we did not find evidence for strong topdown control in the city. SGS-LTER CO2 Elevation Study: Biomass, by species, from ambient and elevated CO2 OTC's and unchambered controls on the Central Plains Experimental Range, Nunn, Colorado, USA 1997 - 2001

This data package was produced by researchers working on the Shortgrass Steppe Long Term Ecological Research (SGS-LTER) Project, administered at Colorado State University. Long-term datasets and background information (proposals, reports, photographs, etc.) on the SGS-LTER project are contained in a comprehensive project collection within the Digital Collections of Colorado (http://digitool.library.colostate.edu/R/?func=collections&collection_id=3429). The data table and associated metadata document, which is generated in Ecological Metadata Language, may be available through other repositories serving the ecological research community and represent components of the larger SGS-LTER project collection. Additional information and referenced materials can be found: http://hdl.handle.net/10217/82454. Above-ground plant material was harvested, by species, in July (PSC) in five years from ambient and elevated CO2 Open-top-chambers, and unchambered controls. There was a small difference in species composition, in the plots, in 1996; prior to any CO2 treatment; this data should be used as a covariate in looking at subsequent years. There was a consistent increase in plant productivity in the elevated CO2 chambers, primarily in the C3 grass group.

Decoupled hydroclimate of Central and Southwestern Iran controlled by the strength of southerly-westerly jets during Marine Isotope Stage 3

<p><span>Abstract</span></p> <p><span>The regional impact of abrupt glacial climate variability remains poorly constrained for arid southwestern Asia, particularly winter dynamics during Marine Isotope Stage 3, due to limited paleoarchives in the Middle East. Here, we present novel continuous speleothem records of &delta;<sup>18</sup>O and &delta;<sup>13</sup>C for Southwestern and Central Iran, spanning the interval ~50-30 ka. Stable-isotope signals in the two stalagmites are generally uncorrelated and do not exhibit a consistent response</span><span> </span><span>to Greenland stadials or interstadials; however, both show a positive &delta;<sup>18</sup>O excursion that coincides with Heinrich event 4. We explore the potential mechanisms for intermittent coupling of speleothem </span><span>&delta;</span><sup><span>18</span></sup><span>O across Iran through isotope-enabled atmospheric modelling outputs, from which we utilize the spatial </span><span>&delta;</span><sup><span>18</span></sup><span>O gradient as a proxy for wintertime westerly vs. southerly jet strength. Our results suggest that during Heinrich event 4 and several Greenland stadials, stronger westerly winds enhanced Mediterranean moisture contributions to both sites and reduced aridity in southern Iran.</span></p>

Data from: Na+/K+ pump interacts with the h-current to control bursting activity in central pattern generator neurons of leeches

The dynamics of different ionic currents shape the bursting activity of neurons and networks that control motor output. Despite being ubiquitous in all animal cells, the contribution of the Na+/K+ pump current to such bursting activity has not been well studied. We used monensin, a Na+/H+ antiporter, to examine the role of the pump on the bursting activity of oscillator heart interneurons in leeches. When we stimulated the pump with monensin, the period of these neurons decreased significantly, an effect that was prevented or reversed when the h-current was blocked by Cs+. The decreased period could also occur if the pump was inhibited with strophanthidin or K+-free saline. Our monensin results were reproduced in model, which explains the pump's contributions to bursting activity based on Na+ dynamics. Our results indicate that a dynamically oscillating pump current that interacts with the h-current can regulate the bursting activity of neurons and networks.
