ERA5 based training, validation and evaluation data for retrievals combining 22-58 GHz with 175-340 GHz microwave radiometer measurements during MOSAiC
<p>This data set is used for the training, validation and evaluation of retrievals of temperature and specific humidity profiles, as well as integrated water vapour from simlulated or measured microwave brightness temperatures (TBs), which are described in <strong>[1]</strong>.</p> <p>The data set consists of yearly files (2001-2018, 6-hourly resolution) that include data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts's ERA5 reanalysis <strong>[2]</strong> and simulated TBs in the microwave spectrum. TB simulations were performed with PAMTRA <strong>[3,4]</strong> on the native ERA5 model level resolution at frequencies of a low frequency Humidity and Temperature Profiler (HATPRO, 22-58 GHz) and of a Low Humidity Profiler (LHUMPRO-243-340, aka MiRAC-P, 175-340 GHz). Afterwards, the ERA5 model level data has been interpolated to a new height grid (dimension 'z'), of which the lowest 43 indices equal the height grid of the retrieval that is developed with this data set. The upper 11 indices are included for additional TB simulations needed for the information content estimation performed and are not used for the retrievals to avoid the tropopause.</p> <p>The trained retrieval is applied to observations from the HATPRO and MiRAC-P that were installed onboard the research vessel Polarstern during the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition.</p> <p><strong>[1]:</strong> Walbröl, A., Griesche, H. <p>A Windows 11 Pro dataset designed in VirtualBox, complete with local and cloud apps, is to be virtually analyzed for crucial evidence. Bypassing the straightforward 'Bart' password is essential for access, yet original passwords should remain unchanged for others to attempt the same challenge. The task involves determining the password's nature, Bart's motives, identifying involved cloud applications, and extracting data both offline and online. The viability of dead box forensics for complete data retrieval is questioned, alongside what additional information network access could unveil. FloX data for SIF retrieval testing
<p>Zip - Folders containing calibrated reflectance, reflected radiance and incoming radiance retrieved from measurements with FloX field spectrometers over Alfalfa and Forage (2018 in Grosseto, Italy), Cover crop (2020 in Julich, Germany) and Oak canopy (2020 in Observatoire de Haute-Provence (OHP), France) during clear sky conditions. The incoming radiance is measured with optics of hemispherical (~180°) field of view and the reflected radiance with conical (~25°) field of view. In addition, SCOPE simulated full spectral fluorescence and true reflectance are supplied.</p> <p>The data is organized in sub-folders inside the zip-repositories which are named according to the date of recording, containing CSV-files which hold the hyperspecteral information. One file is associated to the integrated full-range (FULL) spectrometer between 340nm and 1000nm, and the fluorescence-range (FLUO) spectrometer between 650nm and 810nm, containing incoming radiance, reflected radiance or reflectance, respectively. The first collumn contains the associated central wavelengths, the first row the time of recording, each subsequent field of the table contains the calibrated radiance (in W m<sup>-2</sup> sr<sup>-1</sup> nm<sup>-1</sup>) or reflectance (unitless) values.</p>
Data set of pup retrieval test in control and V1b vasopressin receptor knockout mice
<div> <div> <div> <p>This repository contains the images and code used in the paper "Computer vision analysis of mother-infant interaction identified efficient pup retrieval in V1b receptor knockout mice".</p> <p>For effective nursing, close contact between lactating mothers and their infants is necessary. However, evaluation of maternal motivation to retrieve pups is challenging, because multiple infants were randomly accessed multiple times in changing background. We applied computer vision and deep learning analysis in this process to precisely calculate maternal behavior. Object detection in an open filed test identified less entry into the center area and less moving distance in virgin female mice lacking V1b vasopressin receptor (V1bKO) than wild-type (WT) mice. Although this character was replicated in a V1bKO mother, a pup retrieval test showed that total distances among a V1bKO mother and infants come closer in a shorter time than with a WT mother. In the medial preoptic area, V1b receptor message was partly detected in galanin- and c-fos-positive neurons after the mother was stimulated by infants. Our deep learning analysis effectively evaluated mother-infant relationship in V1bKO mice.</p> </div> </div> </div>

Training and test data for retrievals based on HATPRO observations during MOSAiC
<p>The dataset consists of one netCDF file that contains the entire training and test data for the retrieval of temperature (ta) and humidity (hua) profiles, integrated water vapour (prw), and liquid water path (clwvi) from brightness temperatures (tb) measured by a HATPRO (humidity and temperature profiler). A regression with quadratic terms, except for the boundary layer scan which is confined to linear terms, is performed to derive these meteorological variables. The trained retrieval is applied on the HATPRO observations gathered onboard the research vessel Polarstern during the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition. For the data to be specialized on Arctic conditions they are based on Ny-Ålesund radiosonde observations. An IDL-based radiative transfer model has been used to simulate brightness temperatures for each radiosonde. Several elevation angles (ele) are given in the file because the HATPRO radiometer performs elevation scans in between zenith scans to increase the resolution of temperature profiles in the atmospheric boundary layer.</p>

<p>The dataset consists of one netCDF file that contains the entire training and test data for the retrieval of integrated water vapour (prw) from brightness temperatures (tb) measured by the MiRAC-P (microwave radiometer for Arctic clouds, aka. LHUMPRO-243-340). A neural network retrieval has been developed to derive the prw. The trained retrieval is applied on the MiRAC-P observations gathered onboard the research vessel Polarstern during the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition. For the data to be specialized on Arctic conditions they are based on ERA-Interim reanalysis. An IDL-based radiative transfer model has been used to simulate brightness temperatures. The elevation angle (ele) is always 90° because the MiRAC-P performed zenith scans only throughout the MOSAiC campaign.</p>

Data Supplement for ApJ Paper: Stumbling over planetary building blocks: AU Microscopii as an exampleof the challenge of retrieving debris-disk dust properties
<p>Computational data set underlying a manuscript analyzing visible to near infrared wavelength Hubble-STIS spectrographic coronagraph observations of the AU Microscopii debis disk. To interpret this multi-wavelength data set, we calculated light scattering properties of three different debris disk dust grain shape models: spheres, porous spheres, and more realistic irregular agglomerated debris particles. Calculations of scattering efficiency and phase function were done over a range of dust grain sizes and material refractive indices.</p> <p>This bundle contains three .hdf table files. Each table file contains a size parameter array (1D), complex refractive index array (1D), scattering efficiency array (1D), and scattering phase function array (2D). The 1st dimension of each array is the same size. The 2nd dimension of the scattering phase function is 60, the number of scattering angles calculated at an angular resolution of 3 degrees.</p>

This article was accepted for publication in the journal <em>Atmospheric Measurement Techniques</em> in 2022. The original contributions presented in the study are included in the article and its supplementary information. The GRASP-OPEN model was used to perform forward calculations: this model is publicly available on the official GRASP website (https://www.grasp-open.com/; last access: 14 September, 2022). The specific GRASP-OPEN model outputs that were used for the study are contained in this data archive. </p>
Supplementary data for: Comparison of optical flow derivation techniques for retrieving tropospheric winds from satellite image sequences
<p>This study introduces a validation technique for quantitative comparison of algorithms which retrieve winds from passive detection of cloud- and water vapor-drift motions, also known as Atmospheric Motion Vectors (AMVs). The technique leverages airborne wind-profiling lidar data collected in tandem with 1-min refresh rate geostationary satellite imagery. AMVs derived with different approaches are used with accompanying numerical weather prediction model data to estimate the full profiles of lidar-sampled winds which enables ranking of feature tracking, quality control, and height-assignment accuracy and encourages meso-scale, multi-layer, multi-band wind retrieval solutions. The technique is used to compare the performance of two brightness motion, or "optical flow," retrieval algorithms used within AMVs, 1) Patch Matching (PM; used within operational AMVs) and 2) an advanced Variational Optical Flow (VOF) method enabled for most atmospheric motions by new-generation imagers. The VOF AMVs produce more accurate wind retrievals than the PM method within the benchmark in all imager bands explored. It is further shown that image regions with low texture and multi-layer-cloud scenes in visible and infrared bands are tracked significantly better with the VOF approach, implying VOF produces representative AMVs where PM typically breaks down. It is also demonstrated that VOF AMVs have reduced accuracy where the brightness texture does not advect with the mean wind (e.g. gravity waves), where the image temporal noise exceeds the natural variability, and when the height-assignment is poor. Finally, it is found that VOF AMVs have improved performance when using fine-temporal refresh rate imagery, such as 1-min versus 10-min data.</p>
