The relationship between linguistic expression and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts: A longitudinal study of blog content
<p>To investigate the associations between linguistic features and symptoms of depression, generalised anxiety, and suicidal ideation, we extracted linguistic features from individuals’ blog content and correlated it with validated mental health data in a longitudinal study (n=38). Depressive symptoms were assessed using the self-report Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), anxiety symptoms using the self-report Generalised Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), and social media data was analysed using the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) tool for linguistic features. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed to investigate the correlations between the linguistic features and mental health scores between subjects. We then used the multivariate regression model to predict longitudinal changes in mood within subjects.</p>
The prevalence and correlates of depression and anxiety symptoms among older adults in Shenzhen, China
<p><strong>Objectives: </strong>To investigate the prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms among older adults in an urban district in China, as well as their associated factors.</p> <p><strong>Participants:</strong> A total of 5,372 community-dwelling older adults aged 65 years or older were initially recruited. Ultimately, 5,331 participants met the inclusion criteria and were included in this study.</p> <p><strong>Methods:</strong> Participants completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, along with assessments including the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalized Anxiety Scale-7, UCLA Loneliness Simplification Scale, Insomnia Severity Index Scale, Community Dementia Brief Screening Scale, and the 8-item Dementia Screening Questionnaire. Statistical analyses included the Shapiro‒Wilk test, independent t-test, Wilcoxon rank test, c<sup>2</sup> test, and univariate and multivariate linear regression analysis.</p> <p><strong>Results:</strong> The prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms among older adults in Shenzhen communities was 10.4% and 11.3%, respectively. In multivariate analysis, age (B=-0.01, <em>P</em><0.05), relatively poor health status in the past year (B=1.00, <em>P</em><0.01), poor health status in the past year (B=2.40, <em>P</em><0.01), ISI score (B=0.21, <em>P</em><0.01), AD8 score (B=0.22, <em>P</em><0.01), ULS score (B=0.24, <em>P</em><0.01) were significantly associated with the severity of depression symptom, Compared to their respective reference categories, relatively poor health status in the past year (B=0.50, <em>P</em><0.01), poor health status in the past year (B=1.32, <em>P</em><0.01), ISI score (B=0.23, <em>P</em><0.01), sleep duration (B=0.05, <em>P</em><0.01), AD8 score (B=0.21, <em>P</em><0.01), CSID score (B=0.13, <em>P</em><0.01), ULS score (B=0.22, <em>P</em><0.01) were significantly associated with the severity of anxiety symptom.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>We observed a high prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms among older adults in this study. The existing welfare system and infrastructure should remain and targeted mental health programs addressing the identified risk factors should be proposed.</p>

14-day smartphone ambulatory assessment of depression symptoms and mood dynamics in a general population sample: comparison with the PHQ-9 depression screening
<p>This dataset contains 14 days of ambulatory assessment (AA) depression symptoms and mood ratings with timestamps, a retrospective Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) assessment and the demographic variables age and gender.</p> <p>The AA was conducted with users of the mobile mental health / depression screening app "Moodpath". Patient-reported outcomes via electronic health record portal vs. telephone: process and retention data in a pilot trial of anxiety or depression symptoms in epilepsy
<p>Objective: To close gaps between research and clinical practice, tools are needed for efficient pragmatic trial recruitment and patient-reported outcome(PROM) collection. The objective was to assess feasibility and process measures for patient-reported outcome collection in a randomized trial comparing electronic health record(EHR) patient portal questionnaires to telephone interview among adults with epilepsy and anxiety or depression symptoms.</p> <p>Results: Participants were 60% women, 77% White/non-Hispanic, with mean age 42.5 years. Among 15 individuals randomized to EHR portal, 10(67%, CI 41.7-84.8%) met the 6-month retention endpoint, versus 100%(CI 79.6-100%) in the telephone group(p=0.04). EHR outcome collection at 6 months required 11.8 minutes less research staff time per participant than telephone (5.9, CI 3.3-7.7 vs. 17.7, CI 14.1-20.2). Subsequent telephone contact after unsuccessful EHR attempts enabled near complete data collection and still saved staff time.</p> <p>Discussion: Data from this randomized pilot study of pragmatic outcome collection methods for patients with anxiety or depression symptoms in epilepsy includes baseline participant characteristics, recruitment flow resulting from a novel EHR-based, care-embedded recruitment process, and data on retention along with various process measures at 6-months.</p>
