Time series of high-frequency sensor data measuring water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pressure, conductivity, specific conductance, total dissolved solids, chlorophyll a, phycocyanin, fluorescent dissolved organic matter, and turbidity at discrete depths in Falling Creek Reservoir, Virginia, USA in 2018-2025

We monitored water quality in Falling Creek Reservoir (Vinton, Virginia, USA; 37.30325 -79.8373) with high-frequency (10-minute) sensors in 2018-2025. All variables were measured at the deepest site of the reservoir adjacent to the dam. Falling Creek Reservoir is owned and managed by the Western Virginia Water Authority as a primary drinking water source for Roanoke, Virginia. This data product consists of one dataset compiled of depth profiles of water temperature on 1-m intervals from 0.1 to 9 m depth; dissolved oxygen at 5 m and 9 m depth; pressure at 9 m depth; and temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, specific conductance, chlorophyll a, phycocyanin, total dissolved solids, fluorescent dissolved organic matter, turbidity, and pressure at ~1.6 m depth. The dataset is accompanied by a sensor maintenance log and quality assurance/quality control analysis scripts.

High resolution stream temperature, pressure, and estimated depth from transducers in streams in the Lake Sunapee watershed, New Hampshire, USA 2010-2018

Seven in-stream HOBO pressure transducers and one reference HOBO pressure transducer have been deployed within the Lake Sunapee, NH, USA watershed. Six of the transducers have been in operation since 2010 and an additional transducer was added in 2016. The transducers record data every 15 minutes, and data are downloaded approximately three times per year (early Spring, mid Summer and late Fall). Shortly after download, the data are processed to estimate stream depth using HOBOware's Barometric Compensation Assistant and converted to a .csv file in HOBOware. The data have been QAQC'd to recode obviously errant data to NA using R programming language. No data transformation has occurred beyond basic QAQC of the data to remove known data issues and obviously errant data. The barometric pressure data from the reference transducer located on land are also included in this data package.

High temperatures and human pressures interact to influence mortality in an African carnivore

<p>1. The impacts of high ambient temperatures on mortality in humans and domestic animals are well understood. However much less is known about how hot weather affects mortality in wild animals. High ambient temperatures have been associated with African wild dog Lycaon pictus pup mortality, suggesting that high temperatures might also be linked to high adult mortality.</p> <p>2. We analysed mortality patterns in African wild dogs radio-collared in Kenya (0°N), Botswana (20°S) and Zimbabwe (20°S), to examine whether ambient temperature was associated with adult mortality.</p> <p>3. We found that high ambient temperatures were associated with increased adult wild dog mortality at the Kenya site, and there was some evidence for temperature associations with mortality at the Botswana and Zimbabwe sites.</p> <p>4. At the Kenya study site, which had the highest human impact, high ambient temperatures were associated with increased risks of wild dogs being killed by people, and by domestic dog diseases. In contrast, temperature was not associated with the risk of snare-related mortality at the Zimbabwe site, which had the second-highest human impact. Causes of death varied markedly between sites.</p> <p>5. Pack size was positively associated with survival at all three sites.</p> <p>6. These findings suggest that while climate change may not lead to new causes of mortality, rising temperatures may exacerbate existing anthropogenic threats to this endangered species, with implications for conservation. This evidence suggests that temperature-related mortality, including interactions between temperature and other anthropogenic threats, should be investigated in a greater number of species to understand and mitigate likely impacts of climate change.</p>

Persistent Photoluminescence and Mechanoluminescence of a Highly Sensitive Pressure and Temperature Gauge in Combination with a 3D-printable Optical Coding Platform

<p><span>Distinct types of luminescence that are activated by various stimuli in a single material offer exciting developmental opportunities for functional materials. In this study, we introduce a versatile sensing platform that exhibits three types of luminescence: photoluminescence (PL), persistent luminescence (PersL), and mechanoluminescence (ML), which enables the sensitive detection of temperature, pressure, and force/stress. The developed Sr<sub>2</sub>MgSi<sub>2</sub>O<sub>7</sub>:Eu<sup>2+</sup>/Dy<sup>3+</sup> material exhibits a linear relationship between ML intensity and force, and can be used as an ML stress sensor within the 3&ndash;30 N range. Additionally, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) value of the PL emission band and the PL lifetime of this material are remarkably sensitive to changes in temperature, with values of approximately 0.05 nm/K and 1.29 %/K, respectively. This study demonstrated the use of PersL for sensing pressure for the first time, along with its long-lasting (seconds) lifetime as a manometric parameter. The developed material functions as an exceptionally sensitive triple-mode visual pressure sensor; specifically it exhibits: i) a sensitivity of approximately &minus;297.4 cm<sup>&minus;1</sup>/GPa (8.11 nm/GPa) in bandshift mode, ii) a sensitivity of ~272.7 cm<sup>&minus;1</sup>/GPa (14.8 nm/GPa) in bandwidth mode, and iii) a sensitivity of 42 %GPa<sup>&minus;1</sup> in PL-lifetime mode, which is the highest value reported to date. Notably, anti-counterfeiting, night-vision safety-sign, 8-bit optical-coding, and QR-code applications that exhibit intense PersL were demonstrated by 3D-printing the studied material in combination with a polymer.</span></p>

<p>This dataset contains experimental data collected on chrysene, C18H12, in a diamond anvil cell at pressures up to 10 GPa and a temperature range of 30-300 C</p> <p>Experimental data: synchrotron source FTIR data collected at Beamline X01DC in 2009, using the instrumentation documented in &quot;<a href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1021/jp105020f">Stability of Coronene at High Temperature and Pressure</a>,&quot; <em>JOURNAL OF PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY B</em>, Vol: 114, Pages: 15753-15758, ISSN: 1520-6106, doi: 10.1021/jp105020f.&nbsp; FTIR-microspectrometry in transmission was performed using synchrotron light at the Swiss Light Source operated in top-up mode. Thus the infrared intensity remains constant with time. The IR focus available at the end of the beamline was coupled to the side port of a Bruker Vertex 70 FTIR spectrometer with an <em>f</em>1 = 34 mm/<em>f</em>2 = 213 mm ellipsoidal mirror. The spectrometer, equipped with a KBr beamsplitter, was coupled to the input of a Bruker Hyperion IR microscope without any additional optics. The microscope was equipped with two &times;15 gold-coated Cassegrain objectives. The illuminated region of the sample was determined by an aperture of some 20&minus;45 &mu;m &times; 20&minus;45 &mu;m. In order to reduce the effect of scattered light and to enhance contrast fidelity, an identical conjugate aperture was placed between the collecting optics and the nitrogen-cooled mercury&minus;cadmium&minus;telluride (MCT) detector. Resolution and number of coadded scans were 4 cm<sup>&minus;1</sup> and 256, respectively. Crystals were observed in parallel by use of white light and a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera.</p> <p>Each zip file contains data files in raw (OPUS) and plain text (.dpt) formats, and a pdf scane of the labbook, which provides a key to relate the file names to the pressure/temeprature of the sample.&nbsp; Raw files are provided for both the background and the sample; plain text files were created from processed files.&nbsp;</p>
