Data from: Resurrecting an extinct salmon evolutionarily significant unit: archived scales, historical DNA, and implications for restoration
Archival scales from 603 sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka), sampled from May to July 1924 in the lower Columbia River, were analyzed for genetic variability at 12 microsatellite loci, and compared to 17 present-day O. nerka populations—exhibiting either anadromous (sockeye salmon) or non-anadromous (kokanee) life histories—from throughout the Columbia River Basin, including areas upstream of impassable dams built subsequent to 1924. Statistical analyses identified four major genetic assemblages of sockeye salmon in the 1924 samples. Two of these putative historical groupings were found to be genetically similar to extant evolutionarily significant units (ESUs) in the Okanogan and Wenatchee rivers (pairwise FST = 0.004 and 0.002, respectively) and assignment tests were able to allocate 77% of the fish in these two historical groupings to the contemporary Okanogan River and Lake Wenatchee ESUs. A third historical genetic grouping was most closely aligned with contemporary sockeye salmon in Redfish Lake, Idaho, although the association was less robust (pairwise FST = 0.060). However, a fourth genetic grouping did not appear to be related to any contemporary sockeye salmon or kokanee population, assigned poorly to the O. nerka baseline, and had distinctive early return migration-timing suggesting that this group represented a putative historical ESU originating in headwater lakes in British Columbia that was likely extirpated sometime after 1924. The lack of a contemporary O. nerka population possessing the genetic legacy of this extinct ESU indicates that efforts to reestablish early-migrating sockeye salmon to the headwater lakes region of the Columbia River will be difficult.
Data of Paper "Turning a Multilingual Historical Archive into an Information System through Post-OCR Correction and Content-Based Indexation"
<p>We evaluated our approach on a collection of 946 historical documents belonging to the Biblioteca Nacional de Catalunya (BNC), spanning from 1914 to 1951. Each document is the issue of a magazine, comprising different articles by different authors. This implies that, despite the thematic nature of magazines and specific issues, there is a certain degree of heterogeneity in each document. Magazines were selected based on their relevance w.r.t. art in general and, more specifically, early 20th century avant-garde movements (e.g., Dadaism, Cubism, etc.). For each document, we have the scanning of the original artifact and the plain raw text extracted through ABBYY FineReader OCR tool. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first Catalan-dominated OCR corpus ever released. </p>

Historical Arctic Rawinsonde Archive, 1947 - 1996, Version 1
The Historical Arctic Rawinsonde Archive (HARA) contains millions of vertical soundings of temperature, pressure, humidity, and wind, representing all available rawinsonde ascents from Arctic land stations poleward of 65 degrees North. HARA includes soundings from the beginning of record through mid-1996. Most stations began recording soundings in the late 1950s, but a few began in 1947 or 1948.
Historical GC-Net AWS photo archive
<p>This repository contains a compilation of photos from the historical GC-Net AWS deployed by K. Steffen and his team between 1990 and 2022.</p> <p><strong>Purpose:</strong></p> <p>- repository of photos giving visual evidence of e.g., the relative instrument placement, how much the station is leaning, etc.</p> <p>- It's ideal to have photos from different vantages and before/after maintenance. So, 4 pix per site / year is a nice-to-have.</p> <p><strong>Structure</strong>:</p> <p>The dataset is divided in the following folders:</p> <p>- <strong>curated_archive_of_GC-Net_AWS</strong> folder.</p> <p>This is the most important folder. It contains a currated selection of pictures from each AWS, if possible pre and post maintenance, and if useful, from differet angles. Importance is given to the visibility of the general geometry of the station. The pictures are *cropped* and *renamed* to increase ease of use. Nameing convention is \"NAME YYYY MM DDx pre/post via photographer.format\", e.g. \"CP1 1998 05 30a pre via J Box.jpg\".</p> <p>- <strong>all pictures GC-Net</strong> folder:</p> <p>This folder contains all the available pictures from the AWS. No removal of redundant pictures, no cropping, no renaming. Pictures are organized in year and station specific folders.</p> <p>- GC-Net_photo_grid.png and GC-Net_photo_grid_minor_stations.png which give an overview of the available photos.</p> <p><strong>Contributors:</strong></p> <p>- J.
