Spartina alterniflora above- and belowground biomass predictions and inundation intensity as estimated by the Belowground Ecosystem Resiliency Model for U.S. Georgia marshes from 2014 to 2023.

We applied the Belowground Ecosystem Resiliency Model (BERM) to estimate monthly aboveground biomass (AGB) and belowground biomass (BGB) in U.S. Georgia Spartina alterniflora marshes from 2014 to 2023 at 30 m scale. This application involved BERM version 2.0 (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.13306821), which was built using data in the PLT-GCET-2308 dataset (https://dx.doi.org/10.6073/pasta/4a0b715104849d98320fcc34e7cd63a4). Data sources for BERM application included Landsat-8/9, NOAA CO-OPS Station ID: 8670870, Daymet, and USGS 3DEP 2018 DEM. Download and processing steps are described in the BERM code and in metadata methods section. Specific descriptions of data processing are available in model code: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.13306821. Data provided here include model output of AGB estimates, BGB estimates, and calculated inundation intensity. See "Data reporting" method in the metadata for description of data files. For logisitical purposes here we present only select data from the model input and output. All model input data sources as listed in the abstract are publicly available. Model calibration data and code are published as well. Additional predictions not published here include foliar chlorophyll, foliar nitrogen, and leaf area index.

Hydrochemical Data from a Tropical Andean Glacierized Catchment: δ18O, electrical conductivity, maximum fluorescence intensity, and dissolved organic carbon concentrations from short-term sampling campaigns, Ecuador (2022 and 2024)

Fluorescent dissolved organic matter (FDOM) quality, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration, electrical conductivity (EC), and stable water isotopes (δ¹⁸O and δ2H) were determined in water, snow, and ice samples from a tropical glacierized catchment in the Ecuadorian Andes. The sampling locations were selected to capture the major hydrologic inputs to the main stream channel (glacial melt, tributaries, wetlands, and groundwater springs) and constrain the in-stream spatiotemporal variation in DOM quality and other hydrochemical characteristics. Two sets of high-resolution time series were collected on Oct 13, 2022 and Jun 14, 2024. Time series samples were collected at various upper catchment locations and the outlet simultaneously. DOM quality was characterized via fluorescence spectroscopy and processed using parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC). The DOM quality data are expressed as %FMax values obtained through a 4-component PARAFAC model, where %Fmax 1– 4 are interpreted as terrestrial humic-like, tyrosine-like, tryptophan-like, and microbial humic-like fluorescent components, respectively. DOC concentrations were quantified using high-temperature catalytic combustion, stable water isotopes were analyzed using laser-based spectroscopy, and EC was measured in situ with handheld multiparameter water quality probes.

MCR LTER: Coral Reef Resilience: Algae, Coral, and Sediment data from Grazing Intensity Experiment, 2010 - 2012

These data describe the percent cover of benthic space holders (primarily algae), the biomass of algae and sediment, and the number of corals recruiting on 15 cm X 15 cm terra cota tiles experimentally manipulated on the forereef on the north shore of Moorea. The experiment was established to test whether and how different levels of grazing influence benthic community development. Five treatments were initially established to create a gradient in grazing pressure with a sixth treatment established shortly thereafter. Each treatment was replicated ten times using a randomized block design. Each cage initially contained four tiles, and one tile from each cage has been photographed and destructively sampled for biomass at regular intervals. In addition to the original tiles deployed in July 2010, tiles were subsequently deployed in March 2011, August 2011, and March 2012 to test whether community development varies among seasons. This material is based upon work supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation under Grant No. OCE 16-37396 (and earlier awards) as well as a generous gift from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Research was completed under permits issued by the French Polynesian Government (Délégation à la Recherche) and the Haut-commissariat de la République en Polynésie Francaise (DTRT) (Protocole d'Accueil 2005-2018). This work represents a contribution of the Moorea Coral Reef (MCR) LTER Site.

Measurement of energies and intensities of multiple ionization satellite (MIS) excited in light elements by helium ion beams

<p>TNA project number: <strong>19001708-ST</strong></p> <p><strong>Measurement of energies and intensities of multiple ionization satellite (MIS) excited in light elements by helium ion beams</strong></p> <p><em>Scientific background:</em></p> <p>Over 1600 X-ray spectra have been collected from the alpha particle X-ray spectrometers on Mars rovers including the present Curiosity rover. The spectra are excited by the radionuclide 244Cm, which emits 5 MeV He ions for PIXE and Pu L X-rays for XRF. These spectra provide elemental analysis of rocks, soils and dust as part of the quest to identify formerly habitable (water-bearing) environments. Applicant is a member of the Curiosity APXS team within NASA&rsquo;s Mars Science Laboratory. Excitation of K X-rays by 5 MeV He ions produces also energy-shifted satellites due to 1, 2 or 3 L-shell spectator vacancies. These cause significant distortion of the diagram lines and worsen the quality of spectrum fits by the GUPIX(Mars) code. An MIS database is needed to support a correction procedure that is already devised. This work will increase analytical accuracy and will also support more accurate terrestrial PIXE analysis using alpha beams, especially when partnered with RBS; this could lead to increased use of these two IBA methods in a complementary manner.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><em>Measurements performed within TNA project:</em></p> <p>The wavelength-dispersive in-vacuum x-ray spectrometer of J. Stefan Institute (Ljubljana, Slovenia) [1] have been used to record high energy resolution KaLN X-ray spectra of Ca and Cr induced in collisions with MeV alpha particles. The targets used were metallic Cr, Cr2O3, and CaF2. The KaLN X-ray spectra of Cr and Cr2O3 were measured using three different energies of He ions, namely 3 MeV, 4 MeV and 5 MeV. For CaF2 we have collected only spectra induced with 5 MeV He beam. The main purpose of the experiment was to record KaLN spectra with good enough statistics to determine precisely energy/intensity of the corresponding satellite lines. The results for the energy shifts and relative intensities of the groups will be incorporated in the MIS database providing an empirical means for inclusion of one peak per satellite group when modelling energy-dispersive spectra (GUPIX(Mars) code).</p> <p>[1] M. Kavčič, M. Budnar, A. M&uuml;hleisen, F. Gasser, M. Žitnik, K. Bučar, R. The horizontal axis of the detector corresponds to the dispersion axis and diffracted photons are detected at different horizontal positions according to their wavelength, the vertical axis of the detector serves mainly to accumulate more statistics. The final emission spectra are obtained from the corresponding detector files using the home-written data processing software.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Language intensity scale

<p>This is an index comprised by 3 subindexs and a global index (which is the result of a combination of the other three). These are:<br> LC Index: Linguistic Competences<br> CA Index: Communication Skills<br> IA Index: Information-processing Abilities<br> ILT/LIO Index: Linguistic Intensity of Occupations<br> To elaborate the different indexes, the information contained in the O*Net database (corresponding to the USA of the year 2015) has been used, from which those variables (taken as items) directly related to each one have been considered of the first three indices (CL, HTI, HSC) considered as reflective constructs. In contrast, the ILT index has been constructed as a second order construct, of a formative nature, based on the factorial scores of the first three indices. For the validation of the measurement scales and the obtaining of the factorial scores of the different indexes, a statistical model of structural equations has been used, specifically based on the technique of the variances (PLS). The factorial scores obtained for each dimension, both first order (CL, HTI, HSC) and second order (ILT), have been transformed into a range of variation in the 0-100 range, to obtain the values For each occupation of the different indexes.</p>
