<p>For the paper "Gaussian Process-based calculation of look-elsewhere trials factor", we generated and fitted a number of toy Monte Carlo samples which can be used to reproduce figures from the paper or do tests of hypotheses inspired by the method suggested in the article.</p> <p>Together with the hdf5 files containing the samples, we also provide a Jupyter notebook which was used to produce the figures.</p>

<p>The model allows to identify factors determining the process of aggregation/agglomeration of metal oxide nanoparticles in a biological medium and to verify the importance of ion adsorption and protein adsorption in this process. </p> <p>Model confirms the significant effect of protein adsorption on the hydrodynamic diameter of metal oxide particles in the biological medium, and does not confirm the significant effect of ion adsorption in this process. It’s an example of modeling the properties of nanoparticles, where apart from the descriptors describing the structure of nanoparticles, there are also parameters characterizing the medium.</p>
European database of processing factors for pesticides residues in food
<p>EFSA is regularly evaluating pesticide occurrence data in food generated under the official monitoring programs of Member States with respect to consumer exposure and risk assessment. Most of these data refer to raw commodities (RAC) because maximum residue levels established under European legislation reflect pesticide residues only in the RAC. However, food processing operations can have decisive effects on pesticide residue levels and therefore consumer exposure. This database has been developed to compile validated processing factors for pesticide residues in food in line with the EFSA food classification and description system (FoodEx2).</p> <p>This update fixes a problem that caused some median processing factors to display a "<" qualifier when it was not necessary. All of the data gathered and the python scripts used for processing is being provided as a zip archive, along with a digital signature file. The dataset contains crucial procedures regarding the equipment calibrations used for accurate device efficiency measurements.</p>
Database with characterization factors for material flow accounting (material footprint) for process-based LCA for ecoinvent 3.7.1 and 3.8 in openLCA
<p>This dataset contains extend material-specific material footprint indicators (raw material input RMI and total material requirement TMR) compiled by Mostert and Bringezu (2019) to process-based LCA in form of the databases ecoinvent 3.7.1 and 3.8 (Wernet et al. 2016) with the openLCA software. The scope of the material flows covered here largely fits to the materials list used for the Mineral Resource Scarcity indicator of the ReCiPe life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) method (Huijbregts et al. 2016).</p>
Intervention fidelity and factors affecting the process of a mobile phone text messaging intervention among adolescents living with HIV: A convergent mixed methods study in southern Ethiopia
<p><em>Objective:</em> To assess the intervention fidelity and explore contextual factors affecting the process of a mobile phone text messaging intervention in improving adherence to and retention in care among adolescents living with HIV, their families, and their healthcare providers in southern Ethiopia.</p> <p><em>Design:</em> A convergent mixed-methods design guided by the process evaluation theoretical framework and the RE-AIM framework was used alongside a randomised controlled trial to examine the fidelity and explore the experiences of participants in the intervention.</p> <p><em>Setting:</em> Six hospitals and five health centres providing HIV treatment and care to adolescents in five zones in southern Ethiopia. Participants: adolescents (aged 10–19), their families and their healthcare providers.</p> <p><em>Intervention:</em> Mobile phone text messages daily for 6 months or standard care (control). Results: 306 participants were enrolled in the process evaluation. Among the intervention participants (N =153), 171 (55.9%) of whom were men, most resided in an urban area 225 (73.5%), and participants had a mean age of 15 (2.62). The overall experiences of implementing the text messages reminder intervention were described as helpful in terms of treatment support for adherence but had room for improvement. During the study, 30,700 text messages were sent, and fidelity was high, with 99.4% successfully receiving text messages during the intervention. Barriers such as failed text messages delivery, limitations in phone ownership, and technical limitations affected fidelity. Technical challenges can hinder maintenance, but a belief in the future of digital communication permeates the experiences of the text messages reminders.</p> <p><em>Conclusions: </em>Overall fidelity was high, and participants' overall experiences of mobile phone text messages were expressed as helpful. Contextual factors, such as local telecommunications networks and local electric power, as well as technical and individual factors must be considered when planning future interventions.</p>

From glacial refugia to hydrological microrefugia: factors and processes driving the persistence of the climate relict tree Zelkova sicula
<p>With only two tiny populations, the climate relict <i>Zelkova sicula</i> (Sicily, Italy) is one of the rarest trees in the world. It also represents the most marginal member of genus <i>Zelkova</i> that was widespread in the broadleaved forests thriving in warm-temperate climates throughout Eurasia until the Last Glacial Age. Occurring at the westernmost range of the genus under typical Mediterranean climate, the micro-topographic settings have always appeared crucial for the survival of this Sicilian relict. However, the factors and processes actually involved in its persistence in the current refugia, as well as the response of similar relict trees in arid environments are poorly understood worldwide. In the aim to elucidate these aspects, in the two sites hosting <i>Z. sicula</i> analyses of topographical attributes were combined with investigations on soil moisture dynamics. Additionally, plants' growth and spatial distribution patterns were analysed to detect fine-scale differences between populations and assess the possible ecological amplitude of the species.</p> <p>Results revealed that convergent topographies are basic determinants of microrefugia in arid environments. Within the investigated sites, underground moisture never decreases below 25%, buffering seasonal rainfall fluctuations. Therefore, hydrological microrefugia play a key-role in decoupling from regional climate, supporting the target species in coping with an unsuitable climatic envelope. Additionally, the inter-population variability of biometric attributes showed that individual growth is site-dependent and the species retains a relative ecological plasticity, whereas the strongly clumped spatial patterns confirmed the exclusive vegetative propagation and the common clonal growth. On one hand, deeply incised landforms have acted as effective hydrologic microrefugia, on the other clonality coupled with triploidy supposedly improved the resistance of <i>Z. sicula</i> to harsh environments, though entailing inability to reproduce sexually. Most likely, sterility and environmental/physical barriers prevent since millennia this relict from leaving the last suitable microrefugia, resulting in the two current rear-edge populations.</p>

The figure elucidates our ideas of the taxonomical relationships and evolution of this species group based on the male and female genitalia, external morphology and geographic distribution: 1. The ancestral line of the O. chevrolati species group must have arrived in what is now Mexico between the Eocene and the Miocene, as part of the most ancient fauna of northern origin. The ancestor of O. vespertilio early separated from the ancestral trunk (plesiomorphic genitalia characters). 2. The ancestral species of the O. hippopotamus species line and of the O. hippopotamus species complex dispersed throughout the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt prior to its current conformation (Miocene to Pliocene). The geomorphological evolution of this mountain system drived the processes of speciation in this complex. Its descendants adapted to the burrows of Geomyidae in the mountains. 3. Separation of the O. hippopotamus and O. brevifrons species complexes. The first evolved with the TMVB, with some expansion southwards and northwards (O. coproides reaching New Mexico and Arizona). The brevifrons species complex is found in the southeastern United States of America and north-northeastern Mexico. Both complexes are found in the mountains and associated with the protected environments of rodent nests: Geomyidae in the case of the O. hippopotamus and Neotoma species complexes, plus three species in caves in the case of the O. brevifrons species complex.
