Survey data on climate policy in three countries (Peru, Ghana, Philippines) within the project "Sustainable Middle Classes in Middle Income Countries: Transforming Carbon Consumption Patterns (SMMICC)"

<p>The unprecedented growth of the new middle classes in middle income developing countries implies a strong growth in both consumption and carbon emissions. Educational transformation and network learning dataset – qualitative data from an international collaborative EU-project

<p>We are releasing our dataset of workshop outcomes acquired from the annual consortium conferences organized by the international &ldquo;NextFood&rdquo; consortium.&nbsp;The purpose of this project is to&nbsp;develop new ways of educating the future sustainability leaders of the agrifood sector, making sure that the professionals (farmers, advisers, businesses, students) have the right set of skills and competences needed to tackle the sustainability challenges we face ahead.&nbsp;Data gathering started from May 2018 yielding considerable amount of data on achievements, challenges and action plans related to educational transformation. This dataset will be updated by the time of project finalization. This work was funded by the European Union, through the Horizon 2020 project &ldquo;NextFood&rdquo;, Grant agreement No. 771738.</p>

Data from Widespread exposure to altered fire regimes under 2°C warming is projected to transform conifer forests of the Western United States

<p>This archive includes a minimal dataset needed to reproduce the analysis as well as a table (CSV) and spatial polygons (ESRI shapefile) of the resulting output from the publication:</p> <p>Hoecker, T.J., S. A. Parks, M. Krosby &amp; S. Z. Dobrowski. 2023. Widespread exposure to altered fire regimes under 2&deg;C warming is projected to transform conifer forests of the Western United States. <em>Communications Earth and Environment</em>.</p> <p>Publication abstract:</p> <p>Changes in wildfire frequency and severity are altering conifer forests and pose threats to biodiversity and natural climate solutions. Where and when feedbacks between vegetation and fire could mediate forest transformation are unresolved. Here, for the western U.S., we used climate analogs to measure exposure to fire-regime change; quantified the direction and spatial distribution of changes in burn severity; and intersected exposure with fire-resistance trait data. We measured exposure as multivariate dissimilarities between contemporary distributions of fire frequency, burn severity, and vegetation productivity and distributions supported by a 2 &deg;C-warmer climate. We project exposure to fire-regime change across 65% of western US conifer forests and mean burn severity to ultimately decline across 63% because of feedbacks with forest productivity and fire frequency. We find that forests occupying disparate portions of climate space are vulnerable to projected fire-regime changes. Forests may adapt to future disturbance regimes, but trajectories remain uncertain.</p>

Critical Success Factors of Agile Transformation Initiatives from a Project Management Perspective

<p>Context: Agile methods have been adopted as an alternative to<br> meet the frequent changes in the IT industry and to address is-<br> sues of quality, cost, speed, and efficiency in systems development<br> processes. Problem: Managers are responsible for the appropriate<br> application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques that can<br> impact the success or failure of an agile transformation initiative.<br> However, there is not much visibility into the critical success factors<br> (CSF) associated with it. Solution: We aim to identify the CSFs that<br> affect agile transformation initiatives from a project management<br> perspective. IS Theory: The General Systems Theory provides the<br> basis for this study, since the different organizational aspects in-<br> volved in the agile transformation are interrelated and influenced<br> by factors such as environment, culture, information technology,<br> internal management systems, and other elements that may hinder<br> its adoption. Method: We performed a systematic mapping study<br> in the following digital databases: EI Compendex, IEEE, ISI Web<br> of Science, and SCOPUS. Sumary of Results: We selected 12 stud-<br> ies that allowed us to identify 12 CSF. The most cited ones were<br> top management support, team empowerment, adapting the pro-<br> cess toagile, and customer focus. Adoption of management style,<br> good communication, and strong teams are among the least cited<br> CSF. Contributions and Impact in the IS area: Our results can help<br> organizations in new agile transformation initiatives. Such CSF<br> are interrelated and, if taken into consideration, have an impor-<br> tant effect on the success of the agile transformation. Moreover,<br> management should consider the business through a systemic and<br> holistic view because those CSFs can positively impact the agile<br> transformation.</p>

Transformational Tools and Technologies Project

&lt;p&gt;The Transformational Tools and Technologies (TTT) Project advances state-of-the-art computational and experimental tools and technologies that are vital to aviation applications in the six strategic thrusts. The project develops new computer-based tools, computational fluid dynamics models, and associated scientific knowledge that will provide first-of-a-kind capabilities to analyze, understand, and predict aviation concept performance. These revolutionary tools will be applied to accelerate NASA&amp;rsquo;s research and the community&amp;rsquo;s design and introduction of advanced concepts. The Project also explores technologies that are broadly-critical to advancing ARMD strategic outcomes.&amp;nbsp; Such technologies include the understanding of new types of strong and lightweight materials, innovative controls techniques, and experimental methods.&amp;nbsp; TTT also develops improved MDAO and systems analysis tools to enable multi-disciplinary integration. All of these technologies will support and enable concept development and benefits assessment across multiple ARMD programs and disciplines.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The tools and technologies of interest span many disciplines.&amp;nbsp; The Fluid Mechanics Discipline encompasses advanced turbulence modeling, boundary layer transition prediction and modeling, numerical methods, and flow control development and prediction for a wide range of airframe and propulsion system flow problems of interest.&amp;nbsp; Canonical data is developed and used to validate the modeling improvements developed in this discipline.&amp;nbsp; Development of more accurate physics-based methods such as large eddy simulation (LES) is emphasized.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Structures and Materials Discipline emphasizes improved multifunctional and high temperature materials for airframe and engine application, as well as modeling and simulation tool development to improve validated first-principles materials and structural modeling.&amp;nbsp; Development of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials for high-temperature engine application is of particular emphasis in the discipline.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The MDAO (Multi-Disciplinary Design, Analysis &amp;amp; Optimization) and Systems Analysis Discipline develops MDAO and aircraft system-level tools to improve integration of discipline-based technologies and enable improved assessment of system-level benefits.&amp;nbsp; An open-source framework is emphasized to better leverage external partners and increase interaction and benefit to the community.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Combustion Discipline is developing more accurate physics-based models for complex multi-species reacting flows representative of aircraft engine combustors.&amp;nbsp; This is done through a combination of high-fidelity benchmark experiments and the use of advanced unsteady turbulence modeling and large eddy simulation (LES) methods.&amp;nbsp; Advanced concepts such as active combustion control and pressure-gain combustion cycles are also investigated.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Controls Discipline encompasses work across aircraft flight controls and advanced propulsion controls.&amp;nbsp; Development of technologies to enable distributed engine control systems are an area of emphasis in this discipline.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Innovative Measurements Discipline conducts research to advance the state-of-the-art in cross-cutting sensing and measurement technologies for aircraft and propulsion systems.&amp;nbsp; Areas of development include advanced optical measurements, enhanced sensing, and improved data acquisition.&lt;/p&gt;
