Controlled radical polymerization of α-Lipoic acid: A general route to degradable vinyl copolymers
<p>Here, we present the synthesis and characterization of statistical and block copolymers containing α-lipoic acid (LA) using reversible addition–fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization. LA, a readily available nutritional supplement, undergoes efficient radical ring-opening copolymerization with vinyl monomers in a controlled manner with predictable molecular weights and low molar-mass dispersities. Because lipoic-acid diads present in the resulting copolymers include disulfide bonds, these copolymers efficiently and rapidly degrade when exposed to mild reducing agents such as tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine (<em>Mn </em>= 56 kg mol<sup>–1</sup> → 3.6 kg mol<sup>–1</sup>). This scalable and versatile polymerization method affords a facile way to synthesize degradable polymers with controlled architectures, molecular weights, and molar-mass dispersities from α-lipoic acid, a commercially available and renewable monomer.</p>

Molecular configuration data for the reactions between radicals of formamide and vinyl cyanide
<p>The files in the folder /datafile in SuppMater.zip contain optimized atomistic configurations of the reactant (RC), the intermediate (IM), the transition state (TS) and the product (PD) of the reactions between partially dehydrogenated radicals of formamide (H2NCHO) and vinyl cyanide (H2CCHCN) for producing 1H-pyrimidin-2-one (C4H4N2O). The data are obtained by using density functional theory calculations with the M06 functional with 6-31+G(d,p)/6-311++G(d,p) basis sets as implemented in Gaussian 16 B.01. The name of these file consists of two parts separated by "_" including the ID of the reaction (defined in the manuscript), and the molecular state name. For instance, "C4-TS2.data" stands for the 2nd transition state in the reaction C4. Each file may contain one or two molecules/radicals.</p> <p>The total number of the atoms in the first molecule will be read on the first line; the corresponding Gibbs free energy (G, in a.u., with thermal free energy correction at 100 K) on the second, and the atomic type and three atomic Cartesian coordinates on the following lines. The second molecule will be read after the first one in the same format, except for that G is already given with the first molecule for the entire state (of multiple molecules). The filenames started by "Cytosine", "Uracil" and "Thymine" correspond to the reactions between C4H4N2O and amino, methyl or hydroxyl to produce cytosine, thymine or uracil, respectively.</p> <p>The file "RateCoefficient.pdf" contains the rate coefficients as a function of the temperature for the most favourable pathways for the reactions between dehydrogenated formamide and vinyl cyanide.</p>

Data from: Effects of poly(vinyl alcohol) blending with Ag/alginate solutions to form nanocomposite fibers for potential use as antibacterial wound dressings
<p>The first set of data comprise FTIR spectra of Ca-alginate, Ag/Ca-alginate, pure PVA, PVA/Ca-alginate, and PVA/Ag/Ca-alginate fibers. The fibers were obtained by extrusion and gelation of the aqueous solutions with following compositions: for Ag/Ca-alginate fibers - 1.27 ± 0.08 w/v Na-alginate and AgNPs at 2.6 mM, for Ca-alginate fibers - 1.27 ± 0.08 w/v Na-alginate, for PVA fibers - 5.7 % w/v PVA, for PVA/Ca-alginate fibers - 5.7 % w/v PVA and 1.27 ± 0.08 w/v Na-alginate, and for PVA/Ag/Ca-alginate fibers - 5.7 % w/v PVA, 1.27 ± 0.08 w/v Na-alginate and AgNPs at 2.6 mM.</p> <p>The second set of data are UV-Visible absorption spectra of the initial PVA/Ag/Na-alginate colloid solution (5.7 % w/v PVA, 1.27 ± 0.08 w/v Na-alginate, 2.6 mM nominal silver concentration) and resulting fibers produced after gelling of alginate after dissolution in 2.28 % w/v sodium citrate solution.</p> <p>The third set of data are force and stroke values over time measured by using a Universal Testing Machine for Ca-alginate fibers obtained from the 1.27 ± 0.08 % w/v Na-alginate solution and PVA/Ca-alginate fibers, obtained from the solution containing 5.67 % w/v PVA and 1.27 ± 0.08 % w/v Na-alginate at the initial time, and after drying and rehydration for 24 h and 48 h in physiological saline solution. </p>

<p>Set of cartesian coordinates for reactants, pre-reactant complexes, transition states and products for the reactions presented in the manuscript "Radical Addition and H Abstraction Reactions in Ethane, Ethylene and Acetylene: A Gateway for Ethyl and Vinyl Bearing Molecules in the Interstellar Medium". </p> <p>The energy level employed in the optimisation was UMN15-D3BJ/def2-TZVP using a grid=ultrafine and the dispersion correction parameters recommended in Goerigk et al 2017 (https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2017/cp/c7cp04913g), all geometries and energies were obtained using Gaussian16 interfaced to ChemShell. </p> <p>Edit: The comment line of every structure includes its electronic energy (in Eh) and the Zero Point Vibrational Energy (in Eh).</p> <p>Edit: Additionally we included the reaction rate constants obtained with the instanton method at the level of theory mentioned above. These values serve as data behind the figure for the article.
