Characteristics of the Marsh-Forest Boundary within Chesapeake Bay Region Coastal Watersheds
Sea level rise is leading to the rapid landward migration of marshes into coastal forests and other terrestrial ecosystems. Although complex biophysical interactions likely govern these ecosystem transitions, projections of sea level driven land conversion commonly rely on a simplified delineation of the marsh-upland boundary based on tidal datums alone. To determine the influence of biophysical drivers on the elevation of the marsh-forest transition, and their implication for land conversion, we examined almost 100,000 high-resolution marsh-forest boundary elevation points, determined independently from tidal datums, alongside 14 environmental variables in the Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in the United States.
Experimental watershed boundaries and gaging station locations, Andrews Experimental Forest, 2011
This dataset contains locations of the HJ Andrews hydrology and watershed studies features including small experimental watersheds, all gaged watersheds, gaging station locations, and watershed boundaries generated from digital elevation models. Data sources are identified within the metadata for each GIS layer.
Caribou Poker Creek Research Watershed GIS Data: Reasearch Area Boundary (NAD83)

Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest Watershed Boundaries: GIS Shapefile
Diazo copy of Hubbard Brook Watershed Map generated stereophoto- grammetrically based on May, 1956 aerial photography. Shows New Hampshire state plane coordinate system reference points which were projected into UTM Zone 19 and used as reference tics. The watersheds boundaries were delineated on a paper diazo copy of the Hubbard Brook Watershed Map supplied by Wayne Martin and manually digitized. Data distributed as shapefile in Coordinate system EPSG:26919 - NAD83 / UTM zone 19N
Shapefiles for glacier, stream channel, and watershed boundaries in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica (2023)
This data package includes shapefiles for selected glacier, stream watershed, and stream channel boundaries in the McMurdo Dry Valleys region of Antarctica. A combination of satellite imagery and digital elevation models were used to delineate watershed and stream channel outlines, while glaciers were outlined by hand. Watershed boundaries provide an estimate of the overall topographic contributing area for each stream in Fryxell Basin, whereas stream channel boundaries provide a topographic area estimate for stream channel, beyond the wetted margin, for each stream.
Boundaries of the designated 30m Ipswich Watershed Study Area - Idrisi Raster File.
This datalayer is part of a group of layers used for research in the Ipswich River Watershed. This raster digital data is the extent of the Ipswich Project study area as determined by Clark University in a collaborative effort with Marine Biological Laboratory and University of New Hampshire. Terrestrial-Marine Watershed Boundaries on the Delmarva Peninsula of Virginia 2001
This coverage contains the watershed boundaries for the coastal/marine watersheds on the eastern side of the Delmarva Peninsula in Virginia. Watersheds were delineated by Bruce P. Hayden from information (contours, elevations) on USGS 1:24,000 Quad Maps (1975). John H. Porter digitized those boundaries and closed the polygons by digitizing the 5-foot contour. VERSION 2 (2013-08-27): David L. Richardson added names for all the numbered watersheds, reprojected data to NAD83 datum, and fixed alignment issues that had crept in for northernmost watersheds (north of and including Bundick Creek).Â
GIS Shapefile, Spatial boundaries and land cover summaries for eight sub-watersheds of the Baltimore Ecosystem Study LTER
Watershed boundaries for eight sub-watersheds within the Baltimore Ecosystem Study LTER were delineated at 1-meter and 30-meter spatial resolutions. Watershed boundaries were used to calculate total area and extract and summarize existing land cover data (1m 2016 Chesapeake Conservancy Land Cover Data Project; 30m 2011 USGS National Land Cover Database). Two spatial resolutions are included to accommodate the needs of studies with different input requirements. In addition, providing data at both spatial scales highlights the importance of spatial resolution on study results.
Boundary, PIE study area, Ipswich Watershed, Parker Watershed, Massachusetts - vector
The political boundary datalayer is a polygon representation of town boundaries created from arcs developed from survey coordinates extracted from the 68-volume Harbor and Lands Commission Town Boundary Atlas for the 351 communities (cities and towns) in Massachusetts. The Atlas was published in the early 1900's and is maintained by the Survey Section of Massachusetts Highway Department. For communities with a coastal boundary, MassGIS has collaborated with Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and the Department of Environmental Protection to complete a 1:12000 scale coastline. The boundary for the coastline was defined as being the upland side of tidal flats and rocky inter-tidal zones. Note that the 351 communities are the official municipal names, not including "villages" or other sections of towns. Note: Complete metadata is available within the downloaded zip file. This metadata can be viewed with ESRI ArcGIS software, and can be exported to FGDC and ISO metadata formats.
