Readiness Checklist (7 items, 6 required)
Assess ambient light levels in each camera area
Good lighting reported — verify no strong backlight from doors/windows
Check for strong backlight from barn doors or windows
Backlight causes silhouettes — reposition camera or add fill lighting
Test Wi-Fi signal strength at each camera location
Wi-Fi available — run a speed test at each location (minimum 5 Mbps upload for HD)
Verify power outlet access at each camera mounting location
Power available — use weather-rated extension cords for outdoor locations
Clean camera lens before each recording session
Barn dust and moisture fog lenses quickly
Test-record a short clip in each area and review quality
Check for: adequate lighting, full area coverage, stable mount, clear audio (if needed)
Set camera resolution to 1080p minimum (4K if available)
Higher resolution enables post-capture zoom and AI analysis accuracy

How It Works
Select the barn areas you want to cover (aisle, stalls, arena, paddock, wash rack, round pen, entrance), your camera type, primary purpose, and infrastructure details (Wi-Fi, power, lighting quality). The tool generates a prioritized checklist of readiness items covering camera placement, coverage verification, lighting assessment, connectivity, power, and preparation steps. Items specific to your purpose (e.g., ground markers for gait analysis, IR night vision for foaling) are included automatically. Download the checklist as a PDF to work through before your first recording session.
Camera Setup Tips
For stall cameras, mount outside the horse’s reach zone — above the door or on an exterior window. For arena gait analysis, position the camera for at least 20 meters of straight-line visibility. Always check for backlight from barn doors and windows — this creates silhouettes that make AI analysis impossible. Test-record a short clip at each location and review it on a full screen before committing to the setup. Clean the lens frequently — barn dust accumulates faster than you think. For foaling watch, use infrared cameras to avoid disturbing the mare at night.
