Why does the filename convention matter?

Standardized filenames make it possible to sort, search, and organize video files months or years later. They also enable ConductVision to automatically parse horse identity, date, and session type from the filename during upload.

Can I change the filenames after filming?

Yes. Film with your camera’s default naming, then batch-rename files to match the generated convention. The label sheet helps you map clip numbers to the correct filenames. Many file managers support batch rename.

How many clips should I plan per session?

For a standard lameness evaluation: 8–16 clips (2 gaits $\times$ 4 angles $\times$ 1–2 surfaces). For a pre-purchase exam: 16–24 clips (with flexion tests). For training or behavior: 5–10 clips. Plan more than you need — you can always skip unused labels.

Does ConductVision accept these filenames?

Yes. The naming convention is designed for ConductVision video ingestion. Upload named files to vision.conductscience.com and metadata will be parsed automatically.

How It Works

Enter the horse name, date, and session type (lameness evaluation, pre-purchase exam, training, behavior, foaling, or general). Set the number of clips you plan to film and choose which fields to include in the filename: gait, angle, and/or surface. The tool generates a standardized filename for each clip with blank fields for you to fill in during filming, plus a printable label sheet with one card per clip. Download the label sheet as a PDF, print it, and check off clips as you go. When you’re done, rename your video files to match the generated filenames and upload to ConductVision.

Session codes: LAME (lameness evaluation), PPE (pre-purchase exam), TRAIN (training), BEHAV (behavior assessment), FOAL (foaling watch), GEN (general). Gait, angle, and surface fields are optional — include them based on your session type. Consistent naming enables ConductVision to automatically parse metadata from filenames, saving time during analysis.
