Atmospheric fields and simulated sub-milllimetre brightness temperatures for five case studies using the FAAM atmospheric research aircraft

This dataset contains atmospheric fields, sensor positions and simulated sub-millimetre brightness temperatures for five cloudy case studies observed using the UK's BAe-146-301 (FAAM) atmospheric research aircraft.

The 3-dimensional atmospheric fields are taken from the Met Office Unified Model and give the atmospheric state corresponding to the time of high-altitude aircraft runs. They consist of pressure, temperature, height, water vapour and hydrometeor mass concentrations and are provided in a format suitable for use with the ARTS radiative transfer model.

The configurations required to run the ARTS radiative transfer model to simulate observations from the MARSS and ISMAR radiometers on board the aircraft are provided, as well as the output brightness temperatures using scattering properties for different ice particle habits from the ARTS database.
