Size 9^1/2 in. by 6^1/2 in.; foll. 271. Twenty-one lines in a page.</p> <p>An old Sh&icirc;&rsquo;ah Commentary on the Koran, by Abd&rsquo;ul-ḥasan &lsquo;AL&Icirc; B. IBR&Acirc;H&Icirc;M (b. H&acirc;shim Ḳumm&icirc;, flourished in the fourth century). See Ṭ&ucirc;s&icirc;, p. ٢٠٩; Bibl. Sprenger. 406; and N&ouml;ldeke, Gesch. d. Qor., xxix.</p> <p>Imperfect at the beginning. The name of the author, as given above, appear at the commencement of S&ucirc;. 2 (fol. 1<em>v</em>.). This commentary, which may be regarded as the fundamental work of Sh&icirc;&rsquo;ah <em>Tafs&icirc;r</em>, is, on the whole, concise; only the causes (اسباب) of several revelations are related at greater length. It is founded chiefly on alleged sayings of the Im&acirc;ms Abu Ja&rsquo;far (Muḥammad B&acirc;ḳir), and Abu &lsquo;Abdallah (Ja&rsquo;far Ṣ&acirc;diḳ), quoted either directly (by قال) or by an <em>Isn&acirc;d</em>, which always begins with the author&rsquo;s father.</p> <p>The first words are: عن النضر بن سوید و احمد بن محمد; and the conclusion:</p> <p>قد وقع الفراغ من تسوید هذا الکتاب المبارک ضحوة یوم الخامس من .... (sic)</p> <p>On the last fol. begins a treatise or extract,</p> <p>باب ما یعابن (sic) المومن و الکافر.</p> <p>Clearly written, about the tenth century of the Hijrah. Worm-eaten.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
