Petrocephalus phylogenetic tree (18 species, 56 haplotypes, 66 specimens) estimated by maximum likelihood using complete cytochrome b sequences (see text for details on the tree reconstruction method). Cytochrome b sequences of Gnathonemus petersii, Mormyrops nigricans and Myomyrus macrops were used to root the tree. Numbers at nodes are bootstrap proportions represented as percentages.
