35903 PAR Parthenon Metope S30
This is a 3D model of an ancient marble metope from the Parthenon, now in the British Museum. It was removed from the Parthenon and purchased from Thomas Bruce in 1816. This metope shows the battle between Centaurs and Lapiths that took place at the marriage-feast of Perithoos. This piece dates to 447 - 438 BCE. There were originally 92 metopes on the outside walls of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. They were removed and some are currently housed in the British Museum. **Bibliography**: [British Museum](https://bit.ly/2X0UbHN), [Scan the World](http://mmf.io/o/35903) # Ancient World 3D This model posting is part of Ancient World 3D, a project that provides curated 3D open access content for Classical Studies.
