A laboratory model for a meandering zonal jet

<p>Fluid velocities measured in the Large Rotating Annulus (LRA) at the Australian National University. NetCDF files containing velocity fields developed via Particle Image Velocimetry (OpenPIV Python package).</p> <p>Velocities have been transformed into azimuthal (theta_vel) and radial (rad_vel) directions.</p> <p>Filenaming convention is:</p> <p>&quot;theta_rad_all_omega_*p*_q_*p*_run_*_*on*.nc&quot; where</p> <p>&quot;omega_*p*&quot; refers to the background rotation rate of the LRA (0p5, 1p0, 1p5 for 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 radians per second, respectively);</p> <p>&quot;q_*p*&quot; refers to the prescribed setting on the STAD valve used to control the imposed volume flux (0p2, 0p5, 0p8, 1p3, 1p8, 4p5 for STAD valve settings 0.2, 0.5, 0.8, 1.3, 1.8, 4.5, respectively);</p> <p>&quot;run_*&quot; is the experiment run number;</p> <p>&quot;*on*&quot; refers to the ridge configuration: 1on3 is a ridge opening of 1/3 of the annulus width; 1on6 is a 1/6 opening, 1on12 is a 1/12 opening, and 0on1 is a solid ridge.</p> <p>Further information is provided in Stewart &amp; Macleod, &quot;A laboratory model for a meandering zonal jet&quot;, Journal of Advances in Modelling Earth Systems.</p>
