Larvae were reared on five different diet combinations of phytoplankton (Tetraselmis sp.) and zooplankton rotifers: preserved Tetraselmis (PT), cultured Tetraselmis (CT), rotifers (R), preserved Tetraselmis with rotifers (PTR), and cultured Tetraselmis with rotifers (CTR). Larval rearing was terminated when all surviving larvae had moulted into the juvenile stage. Bars and vertical lines in panels (B) and (C) indicate mean and standard deviation values, respectively. Numbers of individuals are shown above the bars for each species brood in panel (B). Differences in larval duration and carapace length between feeding conditions in each species (P <0.05) are indicated by different lowercase letters in the tables following the feeding conditions in panels (B) and (C), respectively.
